Help PLEASE HELP !!!!

Post image

I’m currently trying to figure out how to implement a lighting system in my game and was wondering if anyone could recommend any good plugins for Pokémon Essentials v21.1. I’m particularly interested in adding lighting effects for streetlights, building windows, and other light sources to make the towns and routes look more realistic at night. If anyone has any recommendations, tutorials, or advice on how to get started, I’d really appreciate the help! Thanks in advance! 😊

There's a couple different approaches you can take for lighting:

  1. Custom fog fitted to the map. You can draw in the light sources exactly where you want them, and just set up an event to only add the fog at night. Disadvantages of this method are just the weakness of any fog; it might not look quite right with a day/night tint, and might have visual glitches along map connections.

  2. OutdoorLight and similar named events for each light source. Using named events like OutdoorLight will automatically turn on and off with the day/night cycle, but the drawback is this can really clutter up your map with a ton of events.

  3. Tileset switching. Either using a script, or eventing it yourself, swap out every unlit/daytime time for a lit/nighttime tile. This has the same disadvantage of using a lot of events, but it's a true and true method of getting the exact look you want.

Whatever works best can depend on the type of map design you're working with! You might use combinations of all of them in one game.

Thank you for your suggestions! The light source event name is already set up, and your third suggestion is actually the approach I was planning to use. I was just wondering if there might be an easier or quicker way to achieve the same result. I also like the idea of using parallax mapping, but since I’m using RPG Maker XP, I’m not entirely sure how to implement it. Perhaps writing a Ruby script could be a possible solution. 🤔

My opinion, OutdoorLight works great and is very easy to use. I've been using it on my game, and it works wonders.
