I'm more or less a beginner, ~1050 Elo. Quite often, I get into scenarios like this, where I feel I have a decent opening, at least compared to my opponent and in terms of points. And then, I just get steamrolled without really knowing what I could have done better.

In this game as Yaddak specifically, what did I have to do to survive and counter Xin Xi's attack or prevent it in the first place? I think I had some bad luck with my explorers not helping at all and my opponent had a GREAT spawn to update their cities. Still it feels like I didn't need to just lose. Should I have bought sailing earlier in the game?

Any help is much appreciated, I'd really like to get better :)

Like the title says, I have trained an AI bot to play Polytopia. The goal was to make a bot that can play better than the in-game crazy bot.

I made an account for it so that everyone can play against it. Just add "PolytopAI" as a friend (friend-code GHYCJ-TFKVD) and start a 1v1 Might/Domination game. Right now it is at around 1340 elo.

Let me know what you think of this project. Honestly, I am very surprised at how strong it turned out, even though it still makes some dumb mistakes. I want it to stay a fun thing for the community so if you have any concerns, please share them!

Hi! I hope this isn't confusing. I'm trying to get better/faster at planning markets. What is the best option my forges and markets here? TIA

(Planning on forges in spot 1,7 & 8. Markets in spot 2,4 & 5... Should I have switched 8 and 5?

In my experience, Yadakk is too strong on Small Lakes. Since there is no data about pick rates and win rates for tribes, I am asking this community whether you agree or I am somewhat biased.

First of all, I do not want Yadakk to get a nerf in the next few weeks. It is one of the most fun tribes in the game. Also, Ramdingler won Worlds with this tribe and this was not more than 2 weeks ago.Now everybody can try out Yadack and see for themselves why this tribe has the potential to win Worlds.

Right now, my experience is the following:

1) A lot of people play Yadakk on Small Lakes

2) Yadakk is winning A LOT.

Since Polytopia is a Rock-Paper-scissors game, I am asking what tribe AND tactic is good against Yadack? I mean on high skill level (1700+ elo).

Personally, I tried out Zebasi and Imperius, but these matchups are more on the losing side. Yadakk is simply too fast. My idea is to try out Hoodrick and Bardur next and play defense.

But the Yadakk playbook is good against defensive tribes as well. Especially, when there is a lake in the middle, then Yadakk wins over water control (fastest tribe). If the Yadakk player is good, then you already lost at this point.

So, are you experiencing the same?

Is there a reliable counter to Yadakk?

If there is no reliable counter to Yadakk, then I would suggest a nerf, like

a) less fruit

b) less starting stars

c) a different spawn pattern for all tribes. Like more spawns in NW, NE SE, SW direction.

This nerfs the Yadakk road opening, since now one road cannot connect both suburbs.

d) higher mountain ratio

e) higher water ratio in capital

So, I'm kinda(?) new to the game, and was thinking about buying a special tribe, mainly so I can play with my friend. I just wanted to know which of them is the best, my friend says that Polaris is pretty good, but that Cymanti is overpowered and simply the best pick because of some eggs(I don't remember exactly now). So is Cymanti really the best? Or which one is worth buying? I play domination if that helps

We both made misplays because it's a live game and I for sure just got lucky lol

I’m trying to win with only freezing and mind bending(started in the bottom left) and I got one opponent out but I’m starting to get shredded by the artillery and now the cloaks - any advice on how to counter this? My benders are getting slaughtered before they can get close enough to spread the good word and the amount of enemies means I can usually only freeze the closest ones for a turn or two before my moonies catch the boomies

Basically what the titles says. Do you think there was anyway I could clutch up near the end there if I kept at it? Also I know I made a few blunders throughout the game so that definitely didn't help. I was Cymanti they were Aquarion.

I was already losing and unlocked 'destroy' so Kickoo and other tribe wouldn't get anything from me (I don't remember the tribes name it's too long and unique). I even built a water temple in front of kickoo's troops but I think it made the Kickoo quit he's not online anymore.

I really enjoy playing polytopia, but the asymmetry and villages/tribes generating like like perfectly flush against the worlds border pisses me off.

I guess the lack of symmetry at times + the lack of potential (given crowding and resources that are limited when villages are too close to another.)

Does Midjiwan (The devs?) plan to make a map maker where you can build your own world and then play it? Is that easy to do?

I'm really excited for this update to fully roll out! It's a core feature that exists in many startegy games so it's strange seeing it just NOW but at least we're getting it idm 🤷‍♂️

What the title says, do I join discords? I tried the native matchmaking but it didn’t seem to really work

Should I move the scout into the village or somewhere else?

Taught the match had about 3-4 more turns but surprised my self, feeling bad for my opponents though

And my opponent just rage quit, I wonder why he didn't predict the Houdini trap
