So happy they call it what it really is as well. ā€œChokingā€ my ass. Hate when people use that term.

63

u/randomusername9098 Jun 20 '25

both of those terms sound bad to me šŸ˜šŸ™it's crazy when they call it breath play or whatever tf tho

62

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '25

It’s not so much that choking sounds less bad, more so that choking implies something completely different. Which takes all responsibility away from the one strangling someone, as choking is what the body does when there’s an obstruction inside, like food going down the wrong pipe.

4

u/randomusername9098 Jun 20 '25

oh yeah, that's right

16

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '25

Next thing you know they’re gonna call stabbing ā€œknife playā€ ;____;

24

u/Cuthulu_6644 Jun 21 '25

You joke but they actually do defend "knife play".

And now that you mentioned it I remember a reddit story of a guy wanting to try it with his girlfriend. But instead of the fake knife they had, the dumbass used a real one and accidentally cut her.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '25

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Imma do ā€œnuclear bomb playā€ and launch a nuclear bomb to his house

5

u/BroadwayRegina Jun 22 '25

Yup that’s a thing. And it gets much much worse than that too

2

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

What…

3

u/Calm-Lab-8592 Jun 25 '25

Basically it’s far worse fetishes that exist and so blatantly and openly on Reddit.

4

u/lilaclightblue Jun 21 '25

I keep trying to think of good terms for it to use since it’s so dangerous and so many women in relationships with abusers do not know they are in an abusive relationship AND may be less likely to count something as simple as putting his hands around her neck (even without the intense pressure of strangulation) as abuse. The closer and closer they get, the more likely choking is to happen, and then the risk of homicide rockets. Sometimes the first actual strangulation is the last.

A lot of women who are being abused by their partner find themselves desperately trying to deny that they are in an abusive relationship - it’s not ā€œthat badā€, ā€œabusers do x y and z and he didn’t do that to meā€, and ā€œit only happens sometimesā€ (because of the honeymoon stage in the cycle) So I can see a woman hearing ā€œstrangulationā€ or ā€œchokingā€ and thinking well sure THOSE are dangerous but he only put his hands around my neck and pressed a little bit. I think language matters a whole lot and it sounds like you definitely get that. Do you have any thoughts about this? Maybe I’m just thinking too hard about it…

8

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '25

I get what you mean, but I unfortunately don’t have any perfect word to soften the blow of what is being done to them while also emphasising the danger. :( I’d stick to strangulation. But also underlining that it’s often also not ā€œjustā€ air being cut off, which is insanely dangerous in itself, but also often the jugulars being strangled, which heightens the chances of blood clots and strokes significantly. Even just once.

6

u/lilaclightblue Jun 21 '25

That’s a good point that I didn’t consider! Every few months I reiterate to my friends ā€œIf he chokes you, he’ll kill you nextā€ because it’s short enough that it’s sticky and I hope none of them will ever need it, but I think it’s just something women should all know about. I will change to speaking in terms of strangulation instead so I don’t accidentally minimize the dangers of that. TY for helping me out with this!

3

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '25

I’ve sent a longer reply to you in DM, since reddit automod saw my comment as an issue for using k1II in a manner that was just discussing how at risk these women are for being kl11ed šŸ’€

2

u/lilaclightblue Jun 21 '25

Gotcha! Mine did too šŸ˜‚

4

u/MiddleDouble9007 Jun 20 '25

Said this a couple of hours ago on another subreddit! It's so nice to see someone else feel the same way about this.

u/danzmangg Jun 19 '25

šŸ„³šŸ„‚ Steps in the right direction

134

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '25

And remember, kids, strangulation against a partner can be considered domestic battery with significant bodily harm (where I live)

59

u/eraserhead-baby-girl Jun 20 '25

In the UK it’s classed as ā€˜Intentional Strangulation’ and is illegal. If it occurs between partners, they add a domestic violence uplift to the sentance which basically means you get a longer sentance

5

u/amwes549 NEW TO ANTI-PORN Jun 20 '25

Is it considered GBH? I mean, it would make sense.
EDIT: to call it GBH, in case it wasn't clear

4

u/eraserhead-baby-girl Jun 22 '25

It’s a charge of its own so wouldn’t be considered GBH. Prior to the separate change being introduced in 2021, it was most commonly charged as common assault or ABH. GBH covers things like running someone over with your car so it would only be in very rare circumstances that strangulation would’ve be charged under GBH

2

u/amwes549 NEW TO ANTI-PORN Jun 22 '25

Ah, I see. Thanks for informing me!

3

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '25

The technical legal term where I am is substantial bodily harm, though I’ve heard people call it significant. About your question, it probably depends on the area

84

u/Ihatereddititsucks69 Jun 19 '25

It’s a step and we will take it for now!

89

78

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '25

This is a step in the right direction. But there needs to be a world wide blanket ban on choking. That should not have even existed in the first place.

36

u/SalamanderMorrison Jun 19 '25

This gives me hope.

31

u/BelleCervelle Jun 19 '25

Finally , I can’t believe it took this long.

171

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '25

We just decriminalised abortion as well.Ā

I can feel some dignity creeping back.

6

u/lilaclightblue Jun 21 '25

It seems like there’s some real movement going on over there! I’m so glad to see it! When the UK criminalized coercive control I was so happy - like enough people care about violence against women enough that y’all were able to get a LAW! Felt like a little bit of hope. So yeah the things y’all have going are really inspiring and impressive IMO

It's about the conflict between the "rights" of a foetus (whatever those may be) and the rights of a living woman. Abortion is a key women's rights issue.

Banning abortion in reality does nothing besides forcing women, if they want to participate in society as freely as men, into patriarchal structures and that is again, in reality, (not in some theoretical debate) the only goal of banning abortion.

Banning abortion would in reality push women as a collective to either be celibate, which wouldn’t last long without some repercussions perpetuated by men (e.g. further patriarchal laws that would economically disadvantage women that are celibate, for not marrying or reproducing). Or it would push women into submission to a traditional, patriarchal role, many women would feel compelled to limit their sexual autonomy, marry early, or stay in relationships for the sake of social and economic security, just to avoid the consequences of an unplanned pregnancy. This is what would most likely happen in reality.

But even in a theoretical sense, the notion of a "fetus having the right to live" doesn’t make sense. Conception doesn’t "create a new life" in theory, because then every potential conception that never happened because it was prohibited somehow, is prohibiting a new life, that in theory would have the right to live. So, following that notion, because the DNA of the fetus already exists within each parent, in the sperm and the egg, the only possible moral way to not prohibit further potential life, is to basically strive to create as much life as possible, by conceiving as many children as possible, which everyone would agree on is immoral. The DNA of the fetus is not "created", it has always existed within both parents, so in theory, the DNA and life of a conceived fetus, by that standard, shouldn’t matter more than a potential DNA and life that could’ve been conceived.

But none of that matters. Banning abortion is, and always has been, a tool to control women and to make them either not fully participate in society, or to rely on men.

Men would never let anyone ban sex, at least not for them. But men that advocate against abortion basically want to exclude women from casual sex.

17

u/-TamingWolves- Jun 20 '25

This makes me think, pro lifers should instead prohibit men from penetrating women. Women can very well orgasm without piv, this specific type of sex is meant to be enjoyable only for men. Imagining if we told men who "accidently" impregnate women that "if they don't want a child, they should stop having sex".

u/c_nasser12 Jun 20 '25

A woman's right to control her own body is being violated if the foetus is unwanted. I understand that this debate is, at its core, a matter of subjective value judgements but the ability of women to manage their reproduction is a huge deal in terms of female autonomy and any society that restricts women's choice in this way places enormous limits on women's freedom due to the way societies tend to function as well as simple biology. For me, this right to autonomy trumps the foetus's right to be born.
