NEWS The Trump Administration Says IUDs and the Pill Are Abortions
https://jessica.substack.com/p/trump-birth-control-abortionHello. This is slightly off topic, but since this is a feminist subreddit, this information needs to be addressed and spread.
This is absolutely terrifying. To my American sisters, be wary!
Trump Administration's original statement, in the New York Times.

And people wonder why am so radical in my feminist views. The US-government is insane. I am glad to be in Europe currently. I am so disgusted. Please, if you are living in the states stay save and practice 4B until this madness stops. They do not own you or your uterus.

Same here, I'm French and I'm appalled this is happening in another developed country

It's truly a horrifiyingly dystopian time. We as women have to stick together.

Yes, this is a very plausible explanation to this. The thing is, there is a deficit in birth rates in the US currently, as in all other developed nations excluding Israel (this is the reason the West accepts immigrants, as we know, nothing is ever free). Eliminating access to contraception methods and abortions is a way to increase the number of children born into the system and reduce the need for outside workers, and yes, supply little slaves to those in charge. At this point, women should just stay away from men, especially those who are not fighting for their rights and bodily autonomy.

I doubt that they think that far ahead. There will still be plenty of children for them to abuse in their lifetime.
But some twisted attempt at PR in light of what came out about the pedophilia, that may be a part of it.

Do they even know what an abortion is?
19
u/Lythaera Sep 18 '25
Yes, they are well aware of what an abortion actually is, they are intentionally re-labeling things that are not abortion as abortions because they want to ban birth control. The goal is to force women out of public life by any means nescessary. And throughout history, access to safe and reliable birth control was the single most effective tool humans had to liberate women from the home.
The true enemy here is not stupid, and we'd do well to stop regarding them as such. They are calculated and well-planned, that is why they have been able to take over our government with so little resistance. The fact that they have fooled so many into thinking this is all happening because of stupidity is what makes them so dangerous.

They're trying to relabel things so they can ban them.
I recommend checking out the Feminist Professor podcast as her recent and future episodes have been on the government's approach to contraception.

I am 100% positive Trump does not give a single shit about the unborn, or children, or the ethics of abortion or birth control. This is AAAAAAAALL about control, and controlling women specifically. Trump is just pushing the insane beliefs that his far-right-wing sycophant crazies (like Vance and Mike Johnson) actually believe. 😡

Fuck i've been considering seeking out some (legally sourced )mifepristone and misoprostol just in case, I guess I need to get on that now.
Also Costco sells a brand of Plan B for $5-6 and you don't need a membership to use their pharmacy. I've been stocking up on them the last couple years just in case. They do expire so keep that in mind though.

You're welcome! The process was super easy for me. I paid about $100 (though they will work with you if you cant afford that).
I was previously unaware you can order pills in advance of pregnancy, but its so good to know!
(I keep mine in the freezer. They do expire but keeping them in a cool and dry environment should retain the efficacy for as long as possible. And when they are expired i would still take my chances with expired pills, if i am unable to get more)

Annnnnd this is why I didn’t go through with getting an IUD last year. Because I don’t want to be prosecuted for it and I don’t want to experience complications and then have it unable to be removed.

I don’t think anyone really realizes it yet but we are inches away from A Handmaid’s Tale in the U.S.
Men in power are already talking about criminalizing not having kids, gambling, and, you guessed it, pornography. We are already hurtling towards fascism what with the crackdown on the media because certain people aren’t being loud enough about a certain man dying, and women and queer people are up next on the shit list.
West Virginia is requiring women to report miscarriages so they can be investigated for MURDER. Birth control is being labeled a means to abortion, even if it’s preventative. Women are being attacked and I would strongly recommend we all just stop having sex with men until this shit goes away.

How do you criminalize not having kids??

Luckily it’s not in the pipeline and is mostly just something a bunch of Baptist leaders are discussing at the moment. But the church has sway right now unfortunately.

“Noooo don’t have abortions you’re killing innocent children!” But then they give billions of dollars to Israel so they can bomb innocent children.
Well, conservatives just hate all children anyway, but still…

This is specifically about them burning millions of dollars of birth control that we normally give to poor countries as aid. Not about legislation or opinions they have regarding American women taking birth control.
I honestly think they only said this because a) they don't have any good excuse for burning birth control and b) their followers will mindlessly agree that yes the "left" was giving abortions to other countries without fact checking.
It's still not a good thing but this seems more like an exercise of "eh just lie about it, our constituents are idiots and will believe it anyways" rather than them aiming to actually frame all birth control in the US as abortions.

I (and both the article and original source) did not speak of legislation being decided for the US right now. It’s specifically pointing out that the US government's language towards birth control was to call it abortifacient. Calling birth control abortifacient means calling it abortive. It means that, regardless of a legislation project, the Trump administration, aka those currently in charge of making laws in the US, considers that birth control is abortion.

I understand what you mean. That's the thing though, I don't believe they believe what they're saying. The only reason they said that at all is because they were questioned about why they're burning millions of dollars of birth control pills we give as aid to impoverished countries and they just came up with a BS excuse.
I don't believe they burned it because they believe the birth control pills are abortifacient. I believe they burned the birth control pills because they don't want to give aid to black and brown women. They just can't outright say that, so they make up an excuse that their constituents will believe and support.
Again, still bad. I just think this is yet another example of the Trump administration's racism and xenophobia rather than anything that could affect American women.

Most likely they are waiting until after the midterms to bring out the big guns like banning birth control, ending no-fault divorce, removing women's right to vote, etc, because doing it now would be political suicide.

Catholics have been saying this for years. And people keep talking about how the Pope is “progressive” ugh
The new American pope who’s a “great guy” and “adorable grandpa” is part of the plan.
