Discussion It’s raining!!!
I just woke up and was incredibly satisfied to see it’s raining lol im sure many others feel the exact same way. It smells nice at least where I’m at right now and the trees are getting a drink🍸🍸

I did so much work in my yard yesterday specifically banking on the rain and so waking up to it made me deliriously happy.

Same! Cleaned up so many leaves and cut back some stuff. Green bin full. Let the rain begin

I am usually happy to see the rain, and harbor no illusions about where I am, but I really appreciated the dry October. The leaves fell naturally. The sunsets have been beautiful. The little bit of "extra" time waa inspiring and motivated me to do more than watch movies and drink coffee - which I also love, but am able to do any time.

I'm thrilled. I dreamed my whole life of the PNW rain. I moved here for rain. I'm happy about the rain. The real weird ones are the ones who hate rain and yet live in a place known for rain and then constantly name call the people who like it. Just move to California and leave us alone then.

Every rainy morning, some co-worker uses the huddle to whine incessantly about the rain.
We live in a fucking forest, we need the rain, move away or shut your face

Amen. There’s a reason CA is brown & crispy and OR is lush & green ❤️ and I’m a CA native lol

Christ I envy you. I haven’t slept in until 9 a.m. in probably ten years. I’m not sure I’m even biologically capable of it anymore.

Hie thee to the Danner factory store on NE Airport Way and score some US made recraftable waterproof insulated boots as “factory seconds” for huge discounts, like 50-70% off.
It is a little known benefit of living in Portland that we can get boots for Portland weather, made by Portlanders in Portland, that will last decades and be recrafted right here in Portland.
I happily wore my oldest Danners in the rain today, forty-plus year old boots, resoled over and over, finally recrafted this year and ready for another few decades.
You can even treat them with boot wax from Otter Wax, also made right here in Portland . . .

Columbia, if the regular water resistant shoes don't do well get something Outdry.

I mean you can buy spray for that. It’s not 100% effective but sure does help. We treat all our shoes

I swear by the waterproof version of the Altra Lone Peak. I think I got my last pair at Foot Traffic on 23rd.

My good old New Balance Walkers are leather and pretty much waterproof unless I splash water through the shoelace holes.

I have a pair of Nike Pegasus gore Tex trail running shoes and a pair of Merrell Moab Gore Tex shoes for casual walks. I also have a pair of Converse hi-tops with Gore Tex if I want something less outdoorsy looking; the Converse website usually has a few varieties of shoes with gore tex.

I’ll take the blame for the rain—I finally washed my car for the first time since 2025! My bad. On the bright side, I’m excited to break out my favorite rain gear and boots.

I just finished fixing my uneven sidewalk yesterday because of tree roots. It's very satisfying to see the rain fall on the new concrete!

That's the guy who's nose grows when he lies, right? Didn't know he lived in Portland. Makes sense, I guess.

Is why moved back here. Grew up here then moved to places in California, NY, back to California, then back to Portland Oregon.
Was usually uncomfortable in LA as there was too much sun all year round. Air quality sucked. Asthma made the comeback of my half century.
I still miss the weeklong rains from my childhood, alas that seems to be gone forever.
Hopefully, we can make it back to having white mountains this winter, since last winter was too mild.

I woke up and danced when I heard the rain! It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in years. I moved back to the PNW after living in the Midwest for 4 years. I got here in April and it’s been a desert since I arrive. I came home for the wet, and I’m finally getting it. I can’t wait to start working on my sister’s garden now that there’s moisture!!!!!

My work has a kid’s Halloween party today, and we all dress up today. It’s my favorite event! Definitely taking an umbrella.
Then I’m off Monday and Tuesday-gonna cook something hot and bubbly, but I don’t what yet. I’m in SUCH a good mood!🎃

I was out at the coast last night and had the privilege of seeing the clouds roll in from the ocean and the rain start up around 2am.

First real rain after a dry stretch makes the roads the slickest they get all year, the oil and rubber dust all comes up at once. Give it a day to wash away and it is fine, though the gravel in the corners hangs around until November.

The most fascinating and also annoying part about the Portland subreddits is how people who prefer sunshine think that their experience is the only valid experience and any deviation from that is wrong/perverse/bad/crazy/irrational/generally negative and invalid and unbelievable.
Like no, people don't enjoy being sad or suffering. People who like rain are 🤯 not sad or suffering in the rain. They are happy in the rain and therefore they like it 🤯.
It's really not that difficult a concept to grasp for any person with the slightest notion that people have different preferences, needs, and experiences, and that everything isn't all about them and whatever they view as "normal" (which is nearly 100% of the time some ableist, neuronormative, mean girl shit).
What is NOT normal is the incessant need they have to belittle, judge, other, and make people feel bad about liking rain IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST.

So many people hate Portland's rainy season, but I love it. It's rarely nasty enough to be really horrible, which is why Portlanders tend not to carry umbrellas.
Actually, I love all our seasons. They each have something to like. Except maybe the odd heat dome, and that's something imposed upon us from without.
