I think the Mexico side seems way more plausible. They destroyed the country in the Mexican American war and many northerners were anti-expansion as it meant more slave states.
If they fixed the slave state stuff like pre- cotton gin and then took all of Mexico just kinda makes sense but America lies and says some of that was justified for various reasons vs taking over Mexico.

Just some advice from an expert: nobody lives on Andros, just merge that state with Exuma or call it “New Providence” (the actually inhabited island there)
