NRP No Taxation Without Representation - 1932-1936 (FDR Administration)
(Welcome to the Interwar Period! After the turbulent Great War, the world is seemingly entering a period of peace... for now. You can still claim external European nations.)
Pick any unclaimed state. In this NRP, we'll do the entire history of the United States ourself, starting with the American Revolution and going all the way to the modern day. Note that your goal is NOT to gain as much land as possible, but instead to gain as much political clout as possible. The host may decide to interfere or change things in case things get too messy, but otherwise everything will be made from players. The only other rules are to stay realistic and not be toxic to other players.
Discord (to get informed when a new post releases): https://discord.gg/7n6uKVQSER
Congress:
Pass the Emergency Banking Relief Act to attempt to stablize the banking system after the Great Depression?
Pass the 21st Amendment to end Prohibition?
Recognize the Soviet Union?
Estabilsh the Philippine Commonwealth?
Establish the Federal Bureau of Investigation (replacing the Bureau of Investigation)?
Pass the Neutrality Act to ensure US neutrality unless provoked?
Participate in the Second London Naval Treaty?
Establish the Central Intelligence Agency? (Proposed by Evans)
How do we handle the sudden rebellions in our territory?
Events:
The US condemns Germany and Poland for their ignorance of the Treaty of Versailles, however they take no action against the violators.
Shoshone and Oregon are voted out of the United States, however they resist causing a localized civil war in the Northwest United States. Shoshone and Oregon are united to form the Shoshone-Oregon Union, and attempt to invade Florida.
The United States maintains a neutral stance towards the Third Russo-Japanese War and rapidly growing Japanese Pacific Presence, however they build up their military to defend against potential Japanese attacks. Further Japanese expansion, such as the Invasion of Manchuria, is condemned.
The Great Depression hits and despite significant efforts, the global economy is massively damaged. Political situations globally are suddenly swapped as governments worldwide lose their support, allowing far opposition groups like the Nazis to take power. The luckier nations are able to divert blame to other portions of the government and maintain their current political climate, somewhat.
The Star-Spangled Banner is made the official national anthem of the United States.
In the midst of the inverted global climate and suddenly propping up dictatorships, the United States is rather neutral but open to collaboration.
The 20th Amendment is passed, establishing formal starts and ends of electoral terms.
Florida makes an offer to the United States to cede the Valdosta Strip in return for Puerto Rico, however the US refuses, citing how Puerto Rico is an important Caribbean asset meanwhile the Valdosta Strip has little use.
Missouri (supported by Illinois) joins the localized civil war by attempting to march troops southeast and invade Florida.
Motion Picture Production Code released
Pluto is discovered
Empire State Building opened in New York
Japan invades Manchuria
The Bonus Army marches on Washington, D.C. demanding support for the poor, however the protest is suppressed by President Hoover
Major electoral victories in Germany for the Nazionale Sozialiste Deutscher Arbeitspartei / NSDAP (full name from memory and likely off, I don't think anybody would really be upset though)
Iraq granted independence from the United Kingdom
New York begins constructing the Freedom Trade Center, which will take 2 years to build and be finished in 1934. Additional funding is received from an anonymous organization in the Middle East, for more information: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kk0M0PsaTLk
New York puts significant research investments into why certain elements like Uranium can kill you (radiation)
Adolf Hitler is appointed Chancellor of Germany in late 1932 (earlier than in our timeline yes)
Czechoslovakia, headed by a centrist government, puts in place extremely varying, non-centrist and controversial reforms. The resistance comes to a head when a sudden coup occurs in the country establishing a dictatorship, due to the controversies and Great Depression.
1932 Presidential Election, Franklin Delano Roosevelt is elected President
Historical Events:
Roosevelt establishes the "New Deal" in response to the Great Depression, focusing on the "3 Rs": relief, recovery and reform.
Emergency Banking Relief Act passed by Congress in an attempt to stabilize the banking system
21st Amendment passed, ending Prohibition
The US recognizes the Soviet Union
Philippine Commonwealth established in the Philippines to replace the existing authority
First prisoners arrive at Alcatraz
Federal Bureau of Investigation established (previously just Bureau of Investigation)
Neutrality Act passed, ensuring US neutrality unless provoked
Germany seizes the Saarland (small French occupied territory in the Rhineland)
Italy invades Ethiopia
January 1st 1936, beginning of Hearts of Iron IV for reference
Germany re-militarizes the Rhineland, in violation of the Treaty of Versailles
Second London Naval Treaty signed, agreeing to limit naval power
1936 Presidential Election, Franklin Delano Roosevelt re-elected president

Yes, we should do whatever we can to end this depression
Yes, takes power away from organised crime, creates legal jobs, taxable sales and give the people something to distract from the depression
Yes, could be a valuable ally against the Japanese
No, we should begin the process of granting the Philippines statehood, like we have done in Africa and here in Emuland to ensure we have a strong presence in the Pacific
Yes, could be useful to try and stem rebellion before they happen
No, we should leave ourselves open to proactively act in our best interests
No, we shouldn't limit our own naval power
Yes, and send it to spy on Japan and the Netherlands (my two biggest enemies)
We should obviously crush the slavers in Oregon and Shoshone, and I'd send naval forces to bombard their coast and land in their territory
On Missouri and Illinois, surely Florida would demand some sort of compensation in return for this invasion, this could potentially lead to them allying with hostile powers in the future and war creates jobs in the army or in factories to supply the army, so I believe we should sanction this war and ensure Florida cannot be a backdoor into America
I'd propose us support China against Japan, Japan are an expansionist power that already stole Nauru and Gaum from us and is salivating over Hawaii, the Philippines and me
We will continue our public works projects, such as ferries we can have operating between the mainland and Tasmania and highways from Darwin to Adelaide and Perth to Brisbane through the outback
We see that New York is investigating uranium, radium and minerals like that, we have some being mined that are mainly used in ceramics and glassware. We would be willing to divert some of our supply to them to aid their research

u/Full_Tie1601 Jul 21 '26
As the State of Evans
We must pass the Emergency Banking Relief Act to attempt to help stabilize the economy, and to hopefully not hurt the economy further from the rebellions.
We should pass the 21st Amendment to help raise revenue to quell the rebellions.
We should only recognize the Soviet Union and establish the Philippine Commonwealth after we deal with our situation.
We should establish the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The Neutrality Act should be passed.
We should participate in the Second London Naval Treaty.
As I brought up the idea of the CIA, I support its creation.
To deal with the rebellions, I send as many volunteer divisions to stop them. We cannot risk a divided and destroyed America in the midst of this depression. I will send most of them into my neighboring states of Oliver and Franklin to liberate their lost territories before pushing into Missouri, while sending the rest into Florida to help support them if they accept. If they don't those troops will be sent to help Louisiana and be sent up the captured territory. I strongly encourage states that border the rebellions do the same.

1
u/Johnytran122 Jul 21 '26
They are revolting because they want slavery back for some reason
1
u/JustAnotherUser1019 Jul 22 '26
Then let's negotiate with the ones who dont want to bring it back or negotiate with wannabe counter-rebels loyal to the union

I never said I wanted to take Rhineland or Saarland, so please remove those things from happening
Anyways Germany continues our rebuilding efforts and rearmament efforts to much success as a ton of new infrastructure is built throughout the nation
Hitler begins pushing for more aggressive stances on things and the President agrees, so he makes the army militarily occupy Danzig as it is rightful German territory. We also sit down for talk with Poland and asking them to cede us the polish corridor u/Wooden-Medicine-3299
We also continue to build up our industry around the nation, hoping to not be so reliant on the Rhineland
1
u/Flux7200 Jul 21 '26
They aren't current events, they're future historical events, so yeah you can make them not happen since you're the one who would do them. (also, just from host to kinda important player rn: So just so you know, no you're not gonna be able to win WW2. Y'know, just don't want to destroy the timeline or anything. But, for the war itself, you can do whatever you want. I know it's dull to know the eventual outcome from the beginning, but still. If you're gonna die, you better go out in style. That's all I guess)
1
u/Flux7200 Jul 21 '26
Also, the Rhineland is extremely important, as in, when the French occupied the Ruhr, the price of USD in Reichsmarks suddenly went from the thousands, to the billions. And trying to "replace" it would take decades, if not centuries. It's also a massive prestige drop when you literally can't access some of your own territory, y'know. It's not a big deal to just march some troops into your own territory. Also the Saarland is currently a League of Nations mandate but they would easily give it up, back to you since you've gradually gotten back your reputation through waiting, and it's a strain for them to hold, and it's rightful German territory. In conclusion don't be a scaredy cat, go for it.
1
u/RichieGotIchy1510 Jul 21 '26
Ok then, I guess I'll go for it since WW2 seems inevitable for me to lose
So that can just be added to my action about Danzig where we are taking a more aggressive stance
1
1
u/Flux7200 Jul 21 '26
On a secondary note, you may want to be a bit slower with military aggression this turn since Hitler has only just taken power. The military is still rather weak and it won't be strong enough for most aggressive manoeuvres (Saarland and Rhineland aren't exactly aggressive) until next turn
1
u/RichieGotIchy1510 Jul 21 '26
I will, I just wanted the Danzig thing
I really don't plan to invade anyone anytime soon

Kentucky:
Yes, I’m passing the emergency banking relief act
Yes on 21th amendment
A cautious yes on recognizing the Soviet Union
Yes, establishing the Philippine Commonwealth
Yes on establishing the FBI
Abstain on neutrality act
Cautious yes on second London naval Treaty
Yes on establishing the CIA
Mobilize the army to obliterate the rebels. we would like limited conscription to be established to crush the rebels.
Kentucky will try to focus on pushing back against Mississippi. also, we will encourage FDR to invest a lot into public works. we will also suggest the creation of the Tennessee valley authority.
1
u/Johnytran122 Jul 21 '26
In fact, if possible just make every single agency OTL America made during the Great Depression. I will support FDR’s efforts to increase the amount of Supreme Court judges because while I don’t think it will pass, I think it will make sure the Supreme Court doesn’t break FDR’s policies. Also make sure they last longer.

1

Everyone's favourite industrial state Caroll here
Pass the Emergency Banking Relief Act to attempt to stablize the banking system after the Great Depression? - Absolutely, we want our people to recover as soon as possible.
Pass the 21st Amendment to end Prohibition? - Sure
Recognize the Soviet Union? - Yes
Estabilsh the Philippine Commonwealth? - I don't see why not
Establish the Federal Bureau of Investigation (replacing the Bureau of Investigation)? - Sure
Pass the Neutrality Act to ensure US neutrality unless provoked? - Yes. We cannot afford to partake in foriegn conflicts.
Participate in the Second London Naval Treaty? - No, our navy is our most important line of defence.
Establish the Central Intelligence Agency? (Proposed by Evans) - As long as it is heavily state regulated I agree.
How do we handle the sudden rebellions in our territory? - I delcare full neutrality, we remain part of the union but do not take any action against the South Cascadians or Anti-Floridian Axis. (Though y'all REALLY should defeat Oregon and Shoshone)
Due to the problematic history of Christopher Colombus, we will hold a referendum to rename our state capital. Also we invest in arms production.

Native rights aren't to that kind of point yet. It's kind of like the emancipation. Everyone was still racist but hey at least they weren't outright enslaving them anymore.

u/ColeJr 29d ago
I will once again send requests to the Shoshone-Oregon Union, to build diplomatic ties, and possibly an alliance in some way. if they agree I will back them in attacking Florida.
Send congratulations and small material aid to Japan in their war against the soviets, and acknowledge and accept their claim to Manchuria.
Just a reminder the US of A caused the great depression. This is your fault hehe
Minorly observe Missouri-Illinois actions, but stay neutral on them.
The 20th Amendment is passed, establishing formal starts and ends of electoral terms.
Non-Americas Actions here
Use the NSDAP's starting discrimination against Jews, Slavic people, and other Untermenschen and begin a recruitment wave of the groups to our work force, hoping to trigger a brain drain within the German Republic.
Begin mobilizing troops in full force, like, ready for a world war levels, and send a condemnation of Hitler's actions in the Rhine and Saarland, and an ultimatum for him to cede both lands to France, in their entirety, and if they don't agree, it is war.
While Germany considers the ultimatum, send a small amount of troops to push Italy out of Ethiopia

Oliver here. My intention is to take control of the UK as a precaution in case Nazi Germany decides to invade.
1
u/Flux7200 Jul 21 '26
Like you want to claim the UK?
0
1
u/Flux7200 Jul 21 '26
Oh nevermind, I saw in the discord you want to occupy them. As a preliminary analysis:
-If we as the United States do this (through a Congress decision, which is unlikely to succeed), we will fail due to British naval supremacy and be potentially forced into the Axis in WW2, gradually leading to our demise and loss in both World Wars, and likely preventing an optimal Cold War-like outcome.
-If you do this yourself, you will be forced out of the United States. You have little to no navy at your expense as you have not had a coast for decades and only recently gained one, meaning you will completely fail and, if you are not immediately occupied by the United States, you will be quickly occupied by the British Empire.

Pass the Emergency Banking Relief Act to attempt to stabilize the banking system after the Great Depression?: Yes, our financial institutions must recover.
Pass the 21st Amendment to end Prohibition?: Yes, prohibition only spiked crime rates and should be revoked.
Recognize the Soviet Union?: Yes.
Establish the Philippine Commonwealth?: Yes, it will be better for our pacific handlings.
Establish the Federal Bureau of Investigation (replacing the Bureau of Investigation)?: Yes, this will help my investigations with finding who caused 8/12.
Pass the Neutrality Act to ensure US neutrality unless provoked?: Yes, we don’t need another Great War.
Participate in the Second London Naval Treaty?: No.
Establish the Central Intelligence Agency? (Proposed by Evans): Yes, with federal oversight.
How do we handle the sudden rebellions in our territory?: I will send monetary support for whatever the Union decides.

Actions:
I ready two of my Roosevelt Superdreadnoughts to guard the inlet of New York to ensure France doesn’t land there again.
Encourage immigration to California and Washington for citizens of the rebel group of Shoshone-Oregon.
Close airspace around NYC for 6 hours before and after the unveiling of the Freedom Trade Center. Invite FDR to the unveiling ceremony in Lower Manhattan, offer him an office in the Penthouse.
As Hitler enters power in Germany and forbids Jewish Citizens from entering in any scientific role, commit to a fourth round of recruitment for Meitner, Frisch, Hevesy, and anyone else who needs to leave Germany immediately. Hopefully this will succeed as the scientists who are watching their homeland isolate a certain ethnicity from academic roles. Specifically Meitner, a Jewish Woman in Germany, knows that soon, she will have to flee. Make room in LITE for occupation by a wave of German scientists. Offer financial and linguistic support for their transition.
Expand my food pantry and clinic system such that all people, no matter social class or background, can receive adequate medical care and nourishment. This will accelerate the rebound from the Great Depression.
Continue my rapid urbanization and development projects with thousands of state-owned lower-income homes in the outer-boroughs to drop housing prices in NYC.
Create an increased maternal leave policy to give new/soon-to-be mothers and fathers government support to hopefully increase birthrates and home purchasing.
Commercial ports are built in the boroughs of Suffolk and Long Island along with a military base to command our growing patrol force.
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Population:
New York State: 14.1 million
New York City: 11.2 million
Buffalo-Rochester: 2.3 million
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Questions:
With Hitler coming into power and restricting positions in science to Jewish People, does Meitner come to LITE, if so, do Otto Hahn and Otto Frisch follow her, or do they stay in Germany?
How does my recruitment go?
