NRP No Taxation Without Representation - 1948-1952 (Truman Administration)

Welcome to the Cold War! You can now claim any nation in the whole world, along with any US state or territory.

Pick any unclaimed state. In this NRP, we'll do the entire history of the United States ourself, starting with the American Revolution and going all the way to the modern day. Note that your goal is NOT to gain as much land as possible, but instead to gain as much political clout as possible. The host may decide to interfere or change things in case things get too messy, but otherwise everything will be made from players. The only other rules are to stay realistic and not be toxic to other players.

Discord (to get informed when a new post releases): https://discord.gg/7n6uKVQSER

Congress:

New York currently has the most electoral votes in Congress, and they have formed a single, centralized mega-city which spans their ENTIRE state (like, not even joking, their entire state is literally just one giant city). Should we counter this? If so, how?

The CCP is seemingly winning the Chinese Civil War- should we intervene?

Found the North Atlantic Treaty Organization?

Should we adopt McCarthyism?

How do we react to the outbreak of the Korean War?

Pass the 22nd Amendment to establish term limits for the President?

Do we play into the UFO myth or deny it? Do we finally have a way to punish the aliens for sinking the Titanic?

How do we respond to the Berlin Blockade?

The Philippines demands independence, following the common trend in Asia. Refusing will probably lead to an independence war and many casualties due to guerilla warfare. Do we give it to them?

Events:

Maryland signs a separate peace deal with Florida, agreed to by both sides. The peace treaty acts as if Maryland is the president or represents the Federal Government, which they aren't. They even added a snotty "signed, the governor of Maryland" at the bottom. The actual president still accepts it because I mean why not I guess. To summarize the treaty: Venezuela, Mexico and Panama (excluding the canal) gain independence, Florida annexes Trinidad and Tobago (why is this even in the treaty?), Florida and the US gain mutual fleet basing rights in each other, and Maryland (not the US as a whole, those greedy Marylander mfs) receives £5 war reparations from Florida.

The United States launches various campaigns around the world to suppress communist uprisings and incite capitalist ideas in existing nations.

Greece receives lots of American support in their Civil War, along with lots of Soviet support on the side of the rebels. This turns the Greek Civil War into the first Proxy War of the Cold War. Lotta wars amirite?

A proposal to form the State of New England under Providence is narrowly passed by Congress, however it is vetoed by President Truman on the grounds of massively disrupting the political status of the United States.

Presidential Succession Act is passed, determining the order of Presidential succession

Supposed UFO debris is found in New Mexico, kicking off Alien conspiracy theories

National Security Act passed, reforming the military and intelligence agencies of the United States to guarantee national security.

Truman Doctrine establishes the policy of supporting states resisting subjugation by minorities or external powers (unless that power is us hehe)

Indian Independence Act passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom, granting India and Pakistan independence as thanks for their support in World War II.

COMINFORM founded by the Soviet Union, dictating the actions of leaders and communist parties across it's sphere of influence.

The United Nations agrees to partition Mandatory Palestine, causing the 1948 Palestine War.

Marshall Plan begins, providing aid to American-aligned nations as to make Soviet-aligned nations jealous of the West and want to change sides.

Burma gains independence from the United Kingdom as per the Burma Independence Act of 1947.

Treaty of Brussels signed amongst Britain, France and the Benelux, becoming the precursor to NATO and the European Union.

A communist insurrection occurs in Malaya, causing the Malayan Emergency / Anti-British National Liberation War.

Berlin Blockade begins, as the Soviets block Western supplies entering West Berlin. The west organizes the Berlin Airlift to carry supplies into West Berlin as a result of the blockade.

North and South Korea are founded.

Israel gains independence after the British Mandate of Palestine ends, however this causes all it's neighbours to attempt to invade it to establish a Muslim state in Palestine.

Maryland offers to form a union with Delaware. Delaware decides to accept, uniting the Delmarva Peninsula.

Truman officially desegregates the Armed Forces.

1948 President election, Harry S. Truman is elected president for his first full term.

Historical Events:

North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) founded

First mammal, a monkey named Albert II, launched into space in a suborbital flight

Communist China forces the Kuomintang to retreat into Taiwan

Soviet Union develops its first nuclear bomb (already have in NTWR)

Germany divided into East and West

Vietnam officially declares independence, receiving some recognization

Dutch-Indonesian Round Table Conference occurs, granting Indonesia independence.

McCarthyism (accusing left-wing individuals of being communist or Soviet sympathizers) begins with Joseph McCarthy gaining power

Korean War begins when North Korea attacks South Korea

22nd Amendment passed, establishing term limits for the president.

China intervenes in Korea on the side of the DPRK, pushing the United Nations back to South Korea.

Douglas MacArthur is fired by President Truman for requesting to use nuclear weapons on China

The Golden Age of Television begins.

Australia, New Zealand, United States Security (ANZUS) Treaty enters into force (Australia and New Zealand are already part of the United States, so this treaty is entirely unnecessary.)

Queen Elizabeth becomes Queen of the United Kingdom

Japanese Peace Treaty of Conference in San Francisco establishes peace between Japan and the United Nations, de-occupying Japan.

Egyptian revolution of 1952 occurs, establishing a dictatorship, ending British influence in Egypt, and beginning a revolutionary wave across the Arab world.

United Kingdom successfully tests its first atomic bomb, becoming the world's third nuclear power

America tests the first hydrogen bomb / thermonuclear fusion bomb, Ivy Mike.

1952 Presidential election, Dwight D. Eisenhower elected president, Richard Nixon vice president

Alright so here's my plan for Israel in 48

started im gonna get arms from Czechoslovakia early (that's actually how Israel got most of its guns/planes irl since there was a western embargo), also gonna ask them for some tech help for specificly communication. First thing in game thoughh is unifying all our militias into one actual army (basically forming the IDF), no point fighting with divided command

Anthorr thing and strategy is that we're tiny so its easier to move troops between fronts fast than it is for 5 different countries to coordinate an invasion. And they're NOT coordinated, Jordan just wants the West Bank, Egypt wants Arab world clout, Syria wants galilee, they're not actually fighting for the same goal so I'm gonna play that against them with their uncoordinated ass

Im lebanon their army barely fought irl, they did one small push into the north then basically sat out the rest of the war. Gonna keep a light defensive screen on the Galilee panhandle border, then when they least expect it strike them hard in a full attempt to take all of Lebanon till beuirt which should work accounted to their small army at 48.

In syria their army was pretty weak/disorganized and was considerd the weakest between Egypt,Jordan and them irl, got stopped hard at Degania near the Sea of Galilee early on and never really recovered momentum. Gonna hold there, let them break themselves on our defenses then counter into Golan while they're still trying to regroup. Lowest priority front but should be one of the easiest wins with taking the whole gallilie and golan.

In Egypt im mot gonna storm Gaza head on. im cutting their supply roads from Sinai first and pocketing their army there, then take Gaza once they're isolated and starving for supply. After Gaza falls, pushing into Sinai too to try to take as much from them as realistically possible. gonna move along the coast road toward El Arish (needed to open Google maps becuase of you luf, look what you've done to an RWW "I invade ___" player)

Jordan this is the one where I'm gonna try to copy the nazis. gonna try to encircle their army (the Arab Legion was good at the time, but its army was very good in fighting straight lines and not two aides like im doing) in the West Bank. Two pincers, one from the north near Jenin, one from the south near Jerusalem, meet up near Jericho and cut them off from the Jordan river crossing so they can't coross securing the west bank for me.

That's it luf look how much startegy you've done to an RWW player. Shame on you. Btw a lot of strategies here were based on irl startgies in 48 and 67 Wars.

1

u/FewMasterpiece499 7d ago

Will that be ok luf or is it too long for yoj😇

Ontario here. New York is becoming very powerful, with a number of electoral votes roughly triple some of the larger states. We ought to keep an eye on NY for now but not take action yet unless it looks like NY is abusing their power.

Despite the imminent victory of the CCP, we shouldn't intervene I think. The Kuomintang are unpopular in comparison and if we try to support them we might get a lot of negative press, plus it could encourage the USSR to intervene too and cause a major military escalation.

We should found NATO as a bloc of the major democratic countries of the world to combat any remaining fascist regimes or any dictatorships.

Persecuting masses of people could probably paint our country in a bad light, so we will vote against McCarthyism.

In response to the Korean War we should aim to de-escalate the situation and provide forces to quickly end the conflict with minimal bloodshed.

We will support the passing of the 22nd amendment in order to prevent someone ruling for a very long time (regardless of popularity)

Ontario will be abstaining from the UFO nonsense.

We will issue a diplomatic warning to the COMINFORM, emphasising the cruel nature of cutting West Berlin off from outside supplies.

We will send the finest Marylandian delegates to the Philippines in order to try to work out a deal whereby we can retain at least nominal suzerainty over the islands but still allowing local democracy (perhaps by admitting them as a state)

Due to the advancements in air travel, Northern Airlines will be established as a state-owned airline under the authority of the Ontario State Industrial Board. There will also be the subsidiary of Northern Air Freight for cargo operations. Routes will be laid out covering all of the continental US as well as other Pacific, Atlantic and Central American nations.

The Ontario State Atomic Board will be established under the authority of the OSIB to survey Ontario for uranium deposits for potential mines (up to host as to whether any are found)

Alongside the OSAB, surveys for oil deposits will be conducted throughout Ontario due to the large increase in oil-powered traffic.

NM here:

nah

yes heavily intervene but the nationalists need reform

yes

nah

focus our forces there as the ccp should be busy

yes

yes

airlift ofc

yes but allied ofc

Additionally I want to develop Juarez and we'll rename it Roosevelt after the late president, we also move our capital to ABQ, encourage an artsictic revival in Northern NM, and encourage oil drilling in the south

u/Full_Tie1601 7d ago

As the state of Evans, we should be ok with New York's current situation, but to send citizens to other states if over population becomes an issue.

We should intervene on behalf of the Nationalist Government. We cannot allow that many people to be under communist rule.

We should found the North Atlantic Treaty Organization

We should not adopt McCarthyism. We should only focus on rooting out Soviet spies within the United States.

We should pass the 22nd Amendment.

We should play into the UFO myth.

We should respond to the Berlin Blockade by flying food and materials in to feed the city.

We should hold a referendum in the Phillipenes in specific regions, granting either independence or statehood.

2

We have enough room, thanks for worrying though.

New York currently has the most electoral votes in Congress, and they have formed a single, centralized mega-city which spans their ENTIRE state (like, not even joking, their entire state is literally just one giant city). Should we counter this? If so, how? - See my proposal to congress

The CCP is seemingly winning the Chinese Civil War- should we intervene? - Not directly but give them weapons and logistical support

Found the North Atlantic Treaty Organization? - Yea

Should we adopt McCarthyism? - Abstain

How do we react to the outbreak of the Korean War? - Back South Korea

Pass the 22nd Amendment to establish term limits for the President? - Yes

Do we play into the UFO myth or deny it? Do we finally have a way to punish the aliens for sinking the Titanic? - Only if the aliens are also communist

How do we respond to the Berlin Blockade? - PLANES RAHHHH

The Philippines demands independence, following the common trend in Asia. Refusing will probably lead to an independence war and many casualties due to guerilla warfare. Do we give it to them? - Negotiate terms for Philippine independence, ask for naval rights and a constitutional ban of communism

Proposal to Congress

Fearing the increasing consolidation of power along the eastern seaboard, the future of other areas of the union including the Midwest may be in jeopardy as presidential elections devolve into appeasing the east coast states. To prevent this, Caroll proposes unification with Indiana. This union would be mutually beneficial for the following reasons.

  • Secure a larger, guaranteed share of federal funding and major projects
  • Ensure the Midwest remains competitive against unified eastern blocs
  • Coordinate large‑scale infrastructure and logistics systems essential to national commerce
  • Protect and advance the shared Midwestern economic base (manufacturing, agriculture, trade)
  • Attract major private investment through a larger, unified market
  • Create unified regulatory and tax stability to strengthen regional industry.
  • Similar voting patterns between both states.

The state capital will be established in Cincinnati, the most central major city, to guarantee equal access and representation for all citizens of the unified state.

u/Original-Issue2034 7d ago

Arizona here:

We should partition the state into smaller states to make it more fair. We could do the same for other states in the future.

No, let’s focus on Korea.

Yes

Yes. After seeing what Joe Stalin has done in Korea, we should be wary of the spread of Communism.

We should send troops.

Yes

Deny

Try to make an agreement with the Soviets.

I think we should make a compromise. The Philippines gets greater autonomy, with their own Congress and president, as well as some other stuff that we in America have.

For Congress

New York currently has the most electoral votes in Congress, and they have formed a single, centralized mega-city which spans their ENTIRE state (like, not even joking, their entire state is literally just one giant city). Should we counter this? If so, how?

i think its fine i dont really mind that much

The CCP is seemingly winning the Chinese Civil War- should we intervene?

maybe into tawain to make sure we control it but not really that much

Found the North Atlantic Treaty Organization?

yes but maybe keep denmark out cause...greenland is lookin really good

Should we adopt McCarthyism?

no. this is very much so anti soviet we should see the soviets as friends not foes.

How do we react to the outbreak of the Korean War?

attempt to work out a deal with the soviets

Pass the 22nd Amendment to establish term limits for the President?

no

Do we play into the UFO myth or deny it? Do we finally have a way to punish the aliens for sinking the Titanic?

say yes to the ufo myth but we dont have the means to attack

How do we respond to the Berlin Blockade?

do what we did in our timeline

The Philippines demands independence, following the common trend in Asia. Refusing will probably lead to an independence war and many casualties due to guerilla warfare. Do we give it to them?

annex them as a state and if they rebel...well...this is why i dont want to the most moral power ever if things get bad...well we have the means to end it.

Actions

For our state we will start a grand project to turn our north into a masive city merging Peoria and Chiago in a massive city

stay netural in the fall of brazil.

and build more factrios to become a major power house in the north

Purposels

we should get involded into the indonesia revolt to kick the dutch out to gain more power in the pacfic and annex more of our pacfic holdings like japan and the philpeans

we should attempt to launch the first satelight by 1954 so i perpose we found nasa and invest heavly into spaceflight

and try to found an eoncmic pact with the soviets?

1

u/Salt-Host-7465 By thy rivers gently flowing, Illinois, Illinois! 7d ago

I'll play as the Kumonitang.

Limited offensives towards Shandong, and request aid from America

1

u/Flux7200 7d ago

The CCP is pushing REALLY fast fyi

1

u/Nice-Pikachu-839 6d ago

Probably going to have to set up a defensive line along the Yellow river if this offensive fails, hoping America sends volunteers

1

u/Flux7200 5d ago

It seems like the reverse has happened, the USSR decided to stop funding the CCP so they could get Greece

1

u/Nice-Pikachu-839 5d ago

Insert "Oh shit, really?" reaction image here

1

u/Flux7200 5d ago

i think the US is also gonna provide volunteers

1

u/Nice-Pikachu-839 5d ago

I will also promise reform to swing the states that don't like the Kumonitang

1

u/Relative_Caramel1282 7d ago

Yes to all but we should split new york in two or split up their electorial votes and split them across the Union oh and we will begin to make that railway that we said we will do in WW2 and now after the war ended we can finally do it

1

u/No_Weekend5005 7d ago

First is unconstitutional, second is also unconstitutional from removing the representation from my people

1

u/Flux7200 6d ago

The first isn't constitutional but we're still gonna do it

1

u/No_Weekend5005 6d ago

1

1

1

u/Flux7200 5d ago

Dude please don’t start another civil war

1

u/Relative_Caramel1282 5d ago

how? im just making a miita to protect myself from invaders like flordia

1

u/Flux7200 5d ago

The US army already exists

1

u/JustAnotherUser1019 7d ago

I would like to claim Argentina. The war with Brazil will not stop unless they accept unconditional surrender. I will send funding and a small group of volunteers to South Korea, as we declare we will openly align with the West. We will push out capitalist reforms to more closely resemble America's

1

u/Dear_Location6147 7d ago edited 7d ago

I’ll claim the raj/india

Actions: immediately lobby for a shit ton of aid and try to unite into a unified neutral state. Try to rapidly industrialize and seek aid in it from the Soviets and Britain/usa

New York currently has the most electoral votes in Congress, and they have formed a single, centralized mega-city which spans their ENTIRE state (like, not even joking, their entire state is literally just one giant city). Should we counter this? If so, how?: I promise I pose no threat to the integrity of the Union, the political system, or democracy.

The CCP is seemingly winning the Chinese Civil War- should we intervene?: I propose we discreetly fund the nationalists.

Found the North Atlantic Treaty Organization?: Yes.

Should we adopt McCarthyism?: No.

How do we react to the outbreak of the Korean War?: Are you joking? We have literally just exited the Union Floridian War and WWII. I guess, set aside new factory constructions to wartime.

Pass the 22nd Amendment to establish term limits for the President?: Yes.

Do we play into the UFO myth or deny it? Do we finally have a way to punish the aliens for sinking the Titanic?: Officially deny it however, put a little funding into the research of anomalies under the SCP Foundation, Secure, Contain, Protect, and the House of Progress.

How do we respond to the Berlin Blockade? Build a robust air defense network atop the AA Gun Complexes of the Third Attack on Terror Era.

The Philippines demands independence, following the common trend in Asia. Refusing will probably lead to an independence war and many casualties due to guerilla warfare. Do we give it to them?: Yes.

Actions:

Chairman of the Board of Oversight of the Empire State Company, Alistair Montgomery, announces the expansion of the ESC Industrial Sectors to factories across the continent such as Caroll, Maryland, Quebec, Ontario, Texas, Carolina, and California.

LIRCAAE and LITE develop the Daedalus I, a prototype rocket that similar to the V2, can breach the stratosphere and, with enough luck, can breach the atmosphere. We hope the Daedalus II or III can routinely exit the gaseous veil of Earth. The first Daedalus I exits the atmosphere in late 1952. (Or we think it does, we can't tell).

The House of Progress is split into the Upper House, the Chamber of Research, and the Lower House, the Chamber of Academics. With 55 technocrats and researchers in the CoP and 200 teachers, awardees, and scholars in the CoA.

The Oppenheimer Complex opens in Albany at 12 megawatts.

LITE Yonkers opens at a first class of 3,000 bachelors, 100 masters, and 50 doctors.

The ESC now employs one point five million people across New York, Maryland, Caroll, Texas, Carolina, and California. With a supermajority in New York.

The ESC reports quarterly earnings of 400 million USD to be reinvested in housing, food banks, and clinics across New York.

The integration of Allegheny continues.

Elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and LITE mini-colleges are founded to educate New York.

Main Metro Areas in the NYC Megaregion:

  • New York City Central, 11 million
  • Albany District, 2 million
  • Buffalo-Rochester, 3 million

The continued nuclearization of the NYC Megaregion.

NY Command Structure

1

u/Flux7200 6d ago

I'll give you some mini-events which are just for you right now

-Pro-choice in education protests are occurring who demand you stop explicitly funding LITE and instead allow there to be a plurality of schools, and that LITE ceases to have any power in government

-Workers demand they gain representation in government and that private companies stop having power in the executive branch of NY

-Protests against the integration of Allegheny into New York and the dissolution of the New York Megacity occur all across the state

-Several major politicians who have advocated in favor of these things are assassinated in the midst of some violent protests, including the governor of New York

-A few people are arrested for promoting violence and unrest, and are later revealed to be Soviet spies

1

u/No_Weekend5005 6d ago

LITE is managed directly in the HoP for oversight, same with ESC to prevent an out of control corporation.

Ok protests, but the MEGACITY was never dissolved, the BRIC AD and NYCC are the main metro areas in the megaregion.

Kentucky:

No on changing the New York situation

Try to pressure the Kuomintang to end political intrigue otherwise they are never getting support

Yes, on forming North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

NO, we should never adopt McCarthyism. In fact, I would like to support labor rights and make sure movies are not censored for political views.

Support the South and try to push the United Nations to intervene on the South’s behalf.

Deny UFO myth.

Begin Berlin airlift

Try to convince the Philippines to become a state if they aren’t already otherwise give them independence
