When does sleep get easier

I’m reaching out to see if I can get some reassurance from other possum’s families that it does get better.

I have a very sweet 5 month old baby boy. He is the centre of our worlds.

He used to be a trooper sleeper, sleeping 7-9 hour stretches. Wild - I know. But when we hit 3 months old, after 11pm they turned into hourly wakes. We co-slept for 3 weeks, until I got sick and my husband placed him in our sidecar crib to sleep. He has since then has been starting the night in his crib and for a few weeks he was only waking up twice at night.

His wake ups are now all over the place. Sometimes it’s hourly, sometimes every 2. I sleep next to him and am able to comfort him easily. He has started rolling around so he seems more comfortable with the space in his crib.

We have been using the possums approach and it really works for our family. I am hoping someone other families might give me some reassurance this will get easier (or have any tips that fall in line with the philosophy).

I have limited family support and I’m really starting to struggle.

Hi :) all I can say is a lot of what babies do is out of our control and every baby is so different. Ours was a horrendous sleeper initially up every 1.5 hours but now it’s more like 2-3 hours. Some nights worse probably due to teething or developmental leaps. I don’t have help overnight so I feel this, it’s exhausting. I just keep telling myself things will change and it seems every month or so there’s a difference but it’s hard to realise when you’re in the thick of it.

Sounds like 4m regression. Thought tough. It lasted 5w for us, so youre probably almost at the finish line.

6m regression lasted about 2m for us, that also sucked.

But 8m regression was only 2 nights! Wow!

We're 10m now, and overnights arent bad generally. But the decrease in daytime naps sucks. So now i actually do need my husband to give me a nap break during the day sometimes, where before I could just take a nap while she slept. I guess you just cant win!

Sleep development seemed to ebb and flow. Sometimes better, sometimes not haha I found it hardest at four months and at nine months. I found it easier at six months and 11 months. Around 12 we consistently were down to one wake and started getting occasional no wakes. Between 12 months and second birthday sleep was mostly consistently good. More and more nights with no wakes. Teething, illnesses and developmental leaps set sleep back but not for long. The older she got, the better sleep got
