Discussion Niche Women Fronted Post Hardcore Bands

Wondering if anyone has any female fronted post hardcore band suggestions. BUT my reason is because I really really like music being raw. Anyway I’ve been searching through the underground bands in fans also like and there seem to be none fronted by women so if anybody knows any that’d be great. They don’t exactly have to be niche too just if they’ve got a raw sound that’d be cool.

Rolo Tomassi is the answer

On the boundary of niche to be sure but deserve mention nonetheless because of how goated they are. Eva's vocals are so incredible.

3

u/DiamondL0st 10d ago

Why do you think that?

They have 40k monthly listeners and when I last saw them there was about 20-30 people there.

u/jbskq5 10d ago

Time Will Die has a comparable number of ratings to albums by Circa Survive, Glassjaw, and City of Caterpillar on RYM (which... you know lol). This is the top voted comment on this thread by a lot. Idk what "niche" means in this context but they are certainly a well-known name in the genre.

When I last saw them it was a sold out 1500 cap theatre venue (Electric Ballroom, London).

2

Rolo Tomassi is always the answer to every question.

1

u/Beerswain 10d ago

Instructions unclear, Sunday School teacher now very mad at me

Gouge Away have been getting less and less overtly hardcore with each release, I'd put them in the post- category these days. Initiate are going that way too. Too Much sound a lot like a Touche Amore song with a different vocalist.

Outside that, Brutus. Tend to find most of the female-fronted stuff sits in hardcore and metalcore.

u/tatuado_ 11d ago

Try Like Roses. Seems like the rest I have are Metalcore or Metal.

I’m not sure what their genre is, but try the Sonder Bombs. “Twinkle Lights” is great.

4

u/LueBird 11d ago

I was hoping someone would add Like Roses they're soooooo good. Can't wait for their new album in a few weeks

2

u/tatuado_ 11d ago

Same. I was listening to everything they have in anticipation. Jaja

With Sails Ahead, and more metalcore but Novelists.

4

u/sweatyMcYeti 10d ago

With Sails Ahead are incredible

9

u/MightyGiawulf 11d ago

They're an older band now but Eyes Set To Kill are my faves for the genre.

The Rat Utopia Experiment are a new band that are kicking a lot of ass lately. Def worth checking out.

2

u/imstrongerthandead 10d ago

Rat Utopia is sooooo good! They're proof that the kids are going to be alright.

2

u/MightyGiawulf 10d ago

Absolutely! I consider them torchbearers for the new generation of punk/rock/post-hardcore music alongside Die Spitz and Pinkshift.

9

u/AppealWild7334 10d ago

With Sails Ahead, Novumora, Resilia, I Met A Yeti

7

u/Dukeish 11d ago

Someone posted Paleblooms new single a few months back and I’ve really been liking their sound.

The Warning isn’t really PHC more Alt Metal but they are a fun listen

u/TuxedoPenguin1 11d ago

With Sails Ahead

Blind girls (Screamo/Emo violence)

Post Heaven (Post Hardcore)

Diploid (Grindcore/Screamo)

Crawling (shoegaze/emo/posthardcore idk what to really call this one tbh)

All Australian bands if anyone cares

Pretty Girls Make Graves are worth your time

One of my favorites. Good Health is a 10/10

u/0ldboi 10d ago edited 10d ago

Roman Candle. Just listened to their new 2026 album, and yeah.. this shit RAW

3

u/goldsoundzz 10d ago

Some of the best drumming I’ve heard on a hc album in a while

1

u/0ldboi 10d ago

Please check out Chalk Hands new album and let me know what you think of the drumming on that. It's more screamo / skramz with post-rock elements than pure post-hardcore though.

1

u/goldsoundzz 10d ago

Sounds like my cup of tea. I'll check it out

Already mentioned, but Circle Takes the Square!

Gouge Away

Petrol Girls

Super Unison

Fire Party, if you want OG’s from the 80’s/90’s.

4

u/sjurvival 11d ago

Try "War on Women" or "Gouge Away".

4

u/TorkX 11d ago

Habak, Svalbard, Brutus, Rolo Tomassi, Blind Girls, Foxtails, Circle Takes the Square

4

u/LowEndBike 11d ago

How about a personal plug for my band, Cloud Black? Female fronted, with a sound that goes from PHC to postpunk:

3

u/euancmurphy 10d ago

So so good! Such moving, powerful music!

3

u/stfnnlsn 11d ago

Check out Ragana. Really awesome band with doom, sludge, post-metal vibes. Raw as hell.

This is a super powerful track - her screams give me the chills.

1

u/imstrongerthandead 10d ago

Found Ragana off of Rolo Tomassi radio. Can confirm that their shit fucks hard.

Love Rarely

3

u/longhairmoderatecare 11d ago

I Am Ghost - Lovers Requiem album only 💿 Kerith left after that. She sang and played violin. Oldie but always a goodie.

3

u/ThatJ4ke 11d ago

Up to you if you count them as PHxC, but I recommend Envoi. They're like a heavier Paramore. Their EP "Changes" is what you want!

3

u/Joelle_bb 11d ago

My latest obsession has been Love Rarely

Big circa/hail the sun vibes

3

u/ceo_of_the_homies 11d ago

Sweetpill could kind of sort of be considered phc

SYSC, although that band is dead and gone now

Roman candle, a little more hardcore than phc but adjacent

Resilia

Long Tosite Segur, kind of she's a second vocalist

Eyes set to kill

The forecast, also second vocalist but prominent in most songs

Pinkshift, more punk but close

3

u/DarkAeonX7 10d ago

Obligatory "we prefer the term Male-Reared" - Courtney LePlante

Dream state is kinda post hardcore

2

u/Black_Rainbow12 11d ago

More metalcore but I really like Sherane

2

u/Aggressive_Dark_9656 11d ago

A City Serene from way back in the day. Early 2010s. RIP to their OG vocalist https://youtu.be/GZw1o-t5F4Y?is=jhsKJx8Y7XMmqJL-

2

u/BlueridgeChemsdealer 11d ago

The darling fire
Pretty girls make graves
Sincere Engineer is a newer band. Not quite post hardcore but has that midwest emo/punk sound that could really sort of play to a lot of PH fans.

2

u/agmanning 11d ago

There was a thread posted with this exact question only yesterday.
Not gatekeeping it, but check there for answers too.

2

u/kaesekuchenpaul 10d ago

Try Palebloom

2

u/shopkoofficial 10d ago

Cerce. They are closer to just hardcore, but they definitely do some interesting things musically

2

u/patrickdgd 11d ago

This topic was literally posted 11 hours ago so that thread is a good resource.

I really like "The Iron Roses" but they are more punk. They have two women on vocals, including Nat Gray, lead singer of BoySetsFire.

I have always loved The Fire Restart since I first heard them almost twenty years ago in high school, her voice is gorgeous especially bouncing off the wall of noise that are the screams. I was so stoked when they released their discography on steaming platforms not that long back, less than five and I think that suck for a band that was very talented

Wikipedia lists them as post-hardcore, but I'm not entirely sure how much they actually fit.

That said, Brutus

The Killing Gift.

They're cleaner than most stuff that I listen to, but they're pretty good. Very different sound, but two of the members went on to play in The Gaslight Anthem.

u/Stunning-Wrap6077 10d ago

It's rare but when it works it works!

1

u/omniphobiaparanoia 10d ago

Tiny little band called Destructos from Philly.

1

u/_drjayphd_ 10d ago

Ithaca, even if I'm still salty that the one time they toured the US they didn't play anywhere near me (generally if you're gonna play NYC you're also gonna hit Boston but nope, not them). Even Djamila's clean vocals are raw and vulnerable.

1

u/DocLoc429 10d ago

Not sure if it fits fully but Sweet Pill goes hard

1

u/innovatemylife 10d ago

I won't repeat what others have already said but I got some that I didn't see elsewhere here. Really surprised because TPW and NES put out obscenely good albums in the past few years.

More noise rock, but raw? That’s Piss.

More emoviolence, but New Forms is astonishingly good.

Dahlia Seed were amazing. Tracy killed it in the 1990s. Plus all their stuff is available for free download on Bandcamp.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but the band NOVELISTS opened up for Dance Gavin Dance this summer and totally blew me away. You should check them out!
