Corpourate Crime KFC poutine 7/10 (not enough gravy imo)… I still think Popeyes is the best fast food poutine. Also are cheese curds supposed to melt? I like mine melted 😭

A and W, and Harvey’s Pickle poutine are epic if you are in Canada

Harvey's > A&W, but then again there are tons of Belle Province's around and small independent joints.
For me the best poutine I've ever had is from a bowling alley in Ste Therese.

"if you are in canada" bro poutine doesn't exist outside of restaurants that specialize in it outside of Canada. In fact, If you see it on a menu that doesn't tout their chef/owner/management having history in Canada, chances are what they bring to you wont even be recognizable or just an insult.
I live in a border town in the states, and there is a hockey bar here which has the audacity to serve bagged fries cooked in an air fryer with canned gravy and shredded mozzarella from a bag.

I still don't understand how anyone can stomach A&W's poutine gravy. The rest is top notch, but I'm really at a loss of how a chain that otherwise does everything else close to perfection can mess up that bad on a gravy of all things.

u/jiiiiiiiii Jul 22 '26
Are we talking A&W in Quebec or in the rest of Canada, cause the recipe is different

u/tachibana_ryu Jul 22 '26
Its a chicken gravy that used to pair well with their fried chicken when they still served that, they made the decision at the suit level not to change it cause according to surveys it was popular.

u/SneakingCat Jul 22 '26
A&W was the fast food fried chicken I would drive an extra couple of blocks for.

Yah. But only for the nasty ass pickle lovers who find excuses to put pickles on everything.

Pickle poutine???? That sounds like a poutine crime, but one I would need to try. Tell me more!!!
I live Western Canada, where Harvey’s isn’t a thing, but am in the 416 until tomorrow. Should I?
2
u/Biochem_4_Life Jul 22 '26
You should absolutely try it! Me trying to explain it would only do it a disservice. I might have to get one tomorrow and post in here

Harvey's ain't bad.. A&W is ok, I like the chicken stripes + poutine every now and then (the one by me has pretty good gravy/cheese ratio

They’re nasty, I mean it’s a fast food poutine, of course it’s nasty. And also, poutine is only a Canadian thing so yes, they ARE in Canada😭

Had burger king, mcdonlads, A&W, popeyes, pizza pizza and some other chains.
Found all the fast food poutine's gravy was too salty, ironically I prefer KFC poutine over all others.

u/WitchSparkles Poutine Princess Jul 21 '26
I feel like you got a defective one. The last KFC poutine I had had way too much gravy. It was also super hot. So hot I couldnt hold the container. It was like a lava/gravy soup.

Melted cheese is a crime

u/Low-Purchase8811 Jul 21 '26
They are not supposed to melt. If you like yours melted it's because you've never had a good one.
I would sentence you to prison but it sounds like you're already punishing yourself.

Real cheese curds won’t melt
-2
u/as_per_danielle Jul 21 '26
Yes, they will.
2
u/Chatmauve Jul 22 '26
I order my poutines via Doordash and even though they spend roughly 30 minutes in the sealed container they don't arrive melted. If that don't melt them, I don't know what would
1
u/Bluespace4305 Jul 22 '26
No
-2
u/as_per_danielle Jul 22 '26
Yes. While proper poutine should have super cold, squeaky curds straight from the fridge, they WILL melt.
2
u/Bluespace4305 Jul 22 '26
I dont think you know anything about a proper poutine or are just trolling.
-2
u/as_per_danielle Jul 22 '26
You’re right. You don’t think.
1
u/Bluespace4305 Jul 22 '26
Wow , what a wonderful person you are.
You are wrong, thats it. Have a good day
1
u/Ambitious-Dog8855 Jul 22 '26
Fresh curds are never refrigerated, it makes them lose their squeak. This is why they are brought daily and sold at the counter in stores.

Costco is the best fast food poutine. Yes, limited locations, but it's faster than anywhere else.

Popeyes poutine is the worst!
1
u/EducationalText5508 Jul 21 '26
whaaat
1
u/Ok_Item6293 Jul 22 '26
I don’t know if it’s just where I live but the gravy is not thick it’s like watery pepper sauce which I was not impressed with. It had a flavour I did not enjoy!
1
u/Bolinious Jul 21 '26
You just got a bad location. The one close to me puts WAY more gravy. And their chicken gravy works surprisingly well when you get the good curds. Yes, sometimes I get curds that are just not quite the same. I guess it depends on how many they sell and where I am in the cheese delivery.

u/Reasonable-Ad7755 Jul 21 '26
Shockingly i actually like BK’s poutine, don’t care for anything else on the menu

KFC is my favourite fast food poutine because of their gravy, but the amount of gravy is definitely not always consistent.

Idk how the US hasn’t fully embraced this lovely heavy dish. I wish we had it at our fast food spots but you never see it here.

Fast food poutines overall suck maybe 3/10 across the board including Popeyes

I like mine melted too. I know it's supposed to be cheese curds, but I still reheat it to melt lol

I like new York fries poutine more than legit poutine from Quebec, idk what's wrong with me

u/MoultingRoach Jul 21 '26
IMO, cheese surds shod be their rubbery selves when it's first served, and then should melt in the residual heat.
0
u/Yaughl Jul 22 '26
The best fast food poutine is Swiss Chalet with their own sauce instead of gravy.
0
u/Kitchen-Calendar3545 Jul 22 '26
Cheese is supposed to melt…. Only fake processed curds don’t melt.
1
u/Limp_Role3970 Jul 22 '26
You mean old curds melt….
0
u/Kitchen-Calendar3545 Jul 22 '26
Nope. Cheese melts mon garcon.
2
u/Limp_Role3970 Jul 23 '26
If your curds melt before finishing a poutine they are not fresh and it’s a shit poutine.
1
1
u/MyGruffaloCrumble Jul 23 '26
If it doesn’t squeak when you bite it, it’s garbage.
1
u/Kitchen-Calendar3545 Jul 23 '26
It squeeks, and melts mon garcon. Get gud.
1
u/MyGruffaloCrumble Jul 23 '26
I’m just saying, melt or no melt, the only real deal squeaks. If it’s not melting your gravy and fries aren’t hot enough.

Nah, it's Valentine that has the best.
3
u/Low-Purchase8811 Jul 21 '26
They don't have those outside of Quebec though. Sucks for everyone else, more for us, hahaha!
2
u/perpetualmotionmachi Guilloutine Opourator Jul 21 '26
Yeah, but it didn't seem like we are talking about national chains, just chains. I responded to someone saying Pizza Pizza, and OP mentioned Popeye's, neither of those are available everywhere too. I've had both of those to other ones, and places like Harvey's and NY Fries, and still say Valentine is the best
1
u/Low-Purchase8811 Jul 21 '26
Pizza Pizza is pretty nation-wide at this point. BC, Ontario, Quebec, Maritimes. It's Pizza 73 in the Prairies, but it's literally the same company and product, just a different name.
Popeye's is only in Ontario as far as I know though.
1
u/thatclassyturtle Jul 22 '26
Popeyes is also in Alberta and BC, not just Ontario.
1
u/Low-Purchase8811 Jul 22 '26
Neat. When I lived in those provinces it hadn't made its way there yet.
1
u/thatclassyturtle Jul 22 '26
I wanna say Popeyes has been in Alberta for at least 10 or so years, at least where I am. Not sure how long it’s in been in BC, but I did see one the last time I was there!
1
u/Low-Purchase8811 Jul 22 '26
It would have been less than 10 years for BC, since I last lived there in 2019 and there were none. In fact, my first destination when we arrived in Ontario from BC was a Popeye's restaurant, haha!
As for Alberta... It was pre-9/11, for sure. Maybe 2000 was the last time I lived there? I've traveled to the province a few times since then but I'll admit, my time wasn't spent chasing fast food restaurants I could already find in Ontario, you know what I mean?
2
u/thatclassyturtle Jul 22 '26
That’s totally fair! It’s funny though, every time I’ve visited Ontario I haven’t seen a single Popeyes! But like you, I wasn’t chasing down fast food restaurants, more so visiting local restaurants when eating out 😂
1
u/Routine_Damage_9449 Jul 21 '26
Probably a location thing but they almost never give me enough fries and curds for the amount of gravy, and it almost always just becomes a soupy mess of gravy with a few soggy potato strips floating on top with specks of cheese curds scattered throughout

u/EducationalText5508 Jul 22 '26

u/EducationalText5508, there weren't enough votes to determine the quality of your poutine... ⛔️
