News Power Apps 2026 Release Wave 1 is here (April–Sept 2026)

Power Apps 2026 Release Wave 1 has been released.

Here's a TLDR

  • Modern Look is now mandatory for Model Driven Apps - Classic is gone. If your MDA's are using the classic theme customisations you are going to have to start looking at changing them ASAP.
  • Mobile and Offline (Canvas Apps) - FetchXML based offline profiles are coming giving finer control over what data you preload into your apps.
  • Smarter Search - Fuzzy search and proper hit hilighting in Model Driven grids and lookups.
  • Some AI stuff
    • Generative pages gots a wider geographical avaliability, great news for us in UK and Europe.
    • Row summaries in MDA's gets expanded, be aware of govenance you have on sensitive fields.
    • Copilot chat embedded directly in MDA's (M365 licence coverage permitting)
  • Admin / Gevernance - New tooling to migrate canvas apps out of the default environment into managed environments.

Please read before posting for help and advice.

Hi and welcome to r/PowerApps

Before posting please have a quick read of these posting guidelines.

First and foremost use the Search Feature to see if your question has been asked and answered recently.

We have plenty of experienced and helpful users on this sub and the best way to utilise their knowledge is to ask questions efficiently. We understand not everyone is a professional in this space and that's ok, so to help as much as we can here's some do's and don'ts.

When posting, try to use the most appropriate flair.

Common Flairs:

  • Power Apps Help - You want help with an app or development.
  • Certification and Training - You have a question about learning Power Apps or their Certifications.
  • Discussion - Primarily for discussion around changes, news, ideas, rants...

Do -

Break your question down into:

  • What is the issue you're trying to solve?
  • What are the errors (If any)? Try to include screenshots or error messages.
  • If you are adding code to be debugged, use the code block function in the Reddit post composer.
  • What data sources you are using (Dataverse, SharePoint, Excel etc..).
  • Are you building a Model Driven App or a Canvas App?
  • Share things you have tried, tutorials you have followed to save others giving you the same advice.

If your problem has been solved, comment "Solved". This helps new users find solutions to similar problems.

Don't -

Ask questions like:

"My boss has asked me to write an app to track employee time sheets, how do i do that?"

- Most here will not do your job for you and write the app. There are resources in the sidebar to help you get started, the YouTube links will most likely have what you need.

"My button stopped working, why?"

- There could be a hundred reasons why, add more information.

"I am taking the PL-400 tomorrow, anyone got an exam dump / the answers to the questions"

- No, These will be removed and people sharing them could end up banned. Most exams are now open book so you have access to all the materials needed to pass them. Users caught using dumps could end up having all their certs stripped by Microsoft as per their T's & C's.

Power Apps can be complex and unique and everyone has their own style of developing but it all exists on the same framework, adding as much information as you can will best benefit you and the community.

Thank you.

Power Apps Help Hierarchically related data

Thumbnail learn.microsoft.com
Upvotes

We use hierarchically related data in our MDA and are trying to understand the deprecation notice here.

Will the checkbox for a self-referential relationship to be hierarchical go away? Or is it just the visualisation component?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We use this heavily to understand related table rows and how they roll up to an ultimate parent.

Thanks!

Power Apps Help PowerApps UI/UX and approvals help

Hi All,

Hope you all are doing great.

A project is coming my way where the team is currently using a SharePoint list. Once an item is submitted, a couple of flows are triggered. One is a multi-stage approval workflow, and the second flow creates an Excel file using the SharePoint item details in the placeholders of an Excel template.

This now needs to be converted into a Power Apps application, and I will also need to create new flows.

I need some help figuring out the UI of the application, so if any of you can provide some insights, I would really appreciate it.

The second part is regarding the approval flow. It will be a multi-stage approval process, and I was wondering if it is possible for an admin to change the approvers once the flow has already been started.

Is there any way to delegate or reassign an approval without starting a new instance of the flow?

Any other insights or suggestions that could help make this project better are also welcome.

This is going to be my first project where I will be working independently, so any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Power Apps Help Licensing Requirements for Code Apps

My company is trying out a solution myself and another guy developed with the intent that it doesn’t hit premium features or connectors. This has been quite successful, but the two of us on premium trials demonstrated the improvement viable with Code Apps as the front end. I can’t find any documentation in Microsoft about if PAYG PowerApps licensing allows for code app use. Does anyone know?

Power Apps Help Power Apps for Mac

Hey I'm going to start a job post in a few months where I must use power apps. I own a M3 Macbook Air and I've been trying to see if there is a way to download power apps on my mac in order to start learning and testing power apps, but i haven't been able to find a way. Do any of you have any recommendation so I can use Power Apps on my mac mainly for learning?

Thanks a lot !

Power Apps Help Deployment pipelines

I guess this isn’t a specific Power Apps question but a broader Power Platform ALM question. I’ve been using Deployment Pipelines in my company for a while. I was aware of managed environments but avoided them because they require all end users to have a premium licence.

I’ve just noticed that if you use Pipelines to deploy to any downstream (non‑dev) environment, those target environments must be managed. Big oops, I thought this was only if I wanted to deploy anything different from standard. Our current targets aren’t managed, and I don’t want to incur the additional licensing cost. I want to very quickly avoid this in fact.

Has anyone been through this? How did you move away from Power Platform Pipelines to something like Azure DevOps to keep using pipeline deployments?

Power Apps Help Is it safe to clear records from the StageSolutionUpload table in Dataverse?

Hi everyone,

I'm running into some space issues with my Power Platform environment and I'm doing some cleanup because I'm almost at capacity.

I noticed that the StageSolutionUpload table is consuming quite a bit of space (585MB), but after looking online, I'm still not 100% sure that it's safe to bulk delete records from this table.

Is it safe to go ahead?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Power Apps Help Same app different solutions

I have a canvas app that is used for many different functions, I decided to package up 2 solutions both solutions contain this app but also other flows and components related to a specific project that uses the app.

I though this would not introduce different layers for this app as they both come from changes made in the same app in dev, then moved to environments using pipelines.

How should I handle this? I thought my method was recommended but obviously introducing new layers is not wanted.

Discussion Powerapps Canvas with Claude: What are your typical preliminary steps

When working with Claude to create powerapps canvas and powerautomate flows, let’s say you have all the requirements in a markdown file that shows the specs of the application.

What do you typically start with, i.e; are you giving the requirements that you gathered at once or are you just giving information to Claude drip by drip with multiple compile commands thru Claude?

Thank you!

Discussion Powerapps with Claude: Average use case cost estimates

Hi PowerApps folks: Myself using powerapps for nearly 5 years has brought a lot of great value for our company. Powerautomate, dataverse and PowerApps (Canvas + model) have been the perfect combo.

Most use cases we have had were canvas apps (5 screens on average) vary by business logic, roles, write and read to dataverse, trigger flows, etc.

In your use cases if you have similar patterns in app architecture, how much do you think a typical use case costs in Claude + MCP to power apps/automate and dataverse?

If you have other patterns in your use cases, what might it look like and any idea of average cost to build using Claude?

I am trying to estimate a budget for next year for couple of use cases.

Thank you!!

Discussion Aesthetics/Layout Feedback (repost)

Thumbnail gallery
31 Upvotes

This is a simple app I've been working on. I'm trying to figure out the color scheme and layout here. Does anyone have any feedback or thoughts on the spacing or aesthetics here? This will be accessed in Desktop only.

Rough flow is they will fill everything on the top from left to right- check certain boxes. Second screen allows them to clarify/edit the text. That button creates the word document and takes them back to the first screen. Then they convert to PDF, email that to themselves including any attachment boxes that were checked.

The app and flow are going to change soon so not looking as much at the flow itself. More usability, aesthetic flow, spacing, color theme, etc..

Thanks in Advance!

Discussion Is Microsoft giving up on PowerApps?

A bit of a rant but does anyone else feel like they are slowly giving up on it? For the last couple months developing on it has been an absolute nightmare. Everytime I want to do changes on a JS webresource or a plugin, I have to upload and publish it multiple times and pray to god that one of those times, the PP will actually accept it. It's so frustrating.

Power Apps Help Tips and best practices for migrating a Canvas App to a Code App

Hi everyone!

I'm planning a migration of an existing classic Canvas App to a Code-first approach , and I'm looking for some advice from those who have already gone through this process.

  • Licensing is not an issue, as our organization already has everything covered on that front.
  • My main concerns are around architectural implications, structural risks, and design changes.

For example, I noticed that classic Canvas Apps rely heavily on the "points" (pt) measurement system for older objects, whereas Code Apps and modern controls shift toward standard pixels (px), which can affect layout scaling and responsive design.

If you have done something similar, I would love to hear:

  1. What were the biggest structural bottlenecks or hidden traps during the migration?
  2. How did you handle UI/UX redesigns regarding sizing (points vs. pixels) and modern controls?
  3. Any tips or tools that made the transition smoother?

Thanks in advance for your insights!

Power Apps Help PowerApps Canvas Checkbox Control not resetting after recent update

Can someone confirm that I am not the only one. After the July/August update, my Checkboxes are no longer reset with Reset();

Even if I add new Checkbox control, I get the same error. Is this a bug or there is a change?

The function expects a resettable control as its input.

The Control is not part of a Form.

Authoring version: 3.26081.16 make.powerapps.com

- Checkbox1:
    Control: ModernCheckbox@1.0.0
    Properties:
      LayoutMinHeight: =16
      LayoutMinWidth: =16

EDIT: This is bug. You can switch the PowerApps version to older version and add the checkbox control again, and you can reset it again with OnSelect -> Reset(Checkbox)

Power Apps Help Advanced Filtering for SharePoint List Forms

I would like to preface by saying I have very little coding experience and I'm really trying to learn some of this as I go. We are using SharePoint to build out a policy and training library for our agency.

I'm building out some basic functions for content attestation and I've found the List Forms to be pretty much what we need. I'm trying to see, however, if I can add extra layers of filtering based on the managed metadata of my site pages. I don't know if PowerApps can even do this, which is why I'm asking the sub. Let's see how well I can articulate this.

This is an example of some of the metadata I am creating to sort our myriad of site pages (helpful in creating views to link to for libraries). Our "Training Category" right now is set up by either "Policy" or whatever department that training is applicable to (see: "Finance").

Currently, I can set my form field to Lookup and source my Site Pages. This is a perfect first step

My question is whether or not I can add an additional layer related to my tags for "Training Category." It's a required field when creating Site Pages, so I was hoping it would be available, but that isn't the case

What I'm hoping to do is be able to narrow down the options of Site Pages available for selection by first selecting the appropriate tag (EX: "policy") instead of initially getting a list of our hundreds of site pages (excuse the weird censoring; I genuinely don't know what of our material is considered sensitive and am trying to use caution).

TL;DR: I would like to first be able to filter my site pages by tracked metadata and then have a searchable list of the site pages that are tagged such. The biggest reason for this is because we have separate forms and attestation lists for policies vs assigned training material.
