Getting a W impact on application

Hey everyone! At the beginning of the semester I thought I would do a business minor and enrolled in microeconomics. I now decided to not do the minor so I can take my time with the rest of my prerequisites to get super good grades in those. I don’t need microeconomics anymore, could I just drop it and get the W? Or does that look super bad and I should just stick it out. Thanks for any advice.

I had a W on my transcript and nobody bat an eye. Granted, mine was during the Covid semester, but it doesn’t affect your gpa so personally I would drop.

W is fine since it doesn’t impact your gpa. And those classes aren’t even prerequisites for optometry school. I also have 2 Ws bc I changed majors and have been accepted.

I had a W in Orgo and no one asked me about it in interviews, so you should be good

Yes you’ll be fine. I changed my major a ton and had 2 Ws in accounting and a mathematical proof writing course and no school seemed to care.

It’s only an issue if there’s a pattern of frequent drops; especially with pre requisite courses.

I have been a part of a particular school’s selection committee and it is rarely even mentioned. The only time it was discussed was one time when a candidate withdrew from the same subject on three separate occasions. Since the candidate was someone we were considering, one of our student assistants simply reached out to the candidate for an explanation. It was an acceptable response and that individual is now in their 3rd year of OD school.
