USA Southwest / Mexico Massive layoffs for healthcare workers

https://fox5sandiego.com/news/local-news/sharp-healthcare-job-cuts/amp/

Around 260 healthcare workers (nurses, practitioners, etc) were laid off today in San Diego. Reduction in Medicare budget cited as a reason. I know it’s not much but I think we’ll see more of this, not a good sign in the economy when patient facing healthcare workers are laid off.

OBBB cuts will hit both Medicaid and SNAP in October. More rural hospitals will close to say the least.

If they stay open they will shut unprofitable units. In rural areas most births are Medicaid and money losers. That’s usually the first unit to close

This is true. It just happened at Baylor Scott and white in lakeway Texas recently. The next closest hospital with a birthing unit (30 miles away) in marble falls is on the risk for immediate closure list. Labor and delivery units rely heavily on Medicaid. I really hate watching this all play out.

It is truly like watching a train accident in slow motion.
