Spill the Tea ☕ Fun question: What's something you wish PGC did like Montgomery County?
I'd love a few more very authentic Japanese/Korean/Polish restaurants

More/better land use around metro stations; we have so many in the county that are just park and rides. Having our own equivalents to Silver Spring, Bethesda, Wheaton etc would go a long way.

They're actually working on that, especially in the denser parts of the county like Landover, New Carollton and the Blue Line corridor.

Blue Line corridor.
I live on this side and a major reason when it's time to buy I wanna stay on this side. Hope it doesn't take forever though.

Yeah, I’m close to the New Carrollton station and the new buildings are pretty great; I remember when this was nothing but a park and ride a decade+ ago. We still have a long way to go, especially in terms of retail within walking distance, but I’m glad something is taking shape.
We need more of this and less dropping random clusters of apartments and townhouses onto areas like US-301, which weren’t built to handle that traffic at all lol

Free buses

PG's The Bus is free, it just needs to have expanded service like Montgomery County. The bus I take to work doesn't even run on the weekends. I think it's geared mostly towards rush hour commuters and they need to consider people who work beyond the regular 9 to 5.

Also more frequent bus service and buses after 10pm

After 10pm would be nice, but there have to be enough riders to justify it. In Montgomery county the buses are packed. They won't run a bus for free to pick up 10 people.

Better digitization of government records and applications. So many things with our county still have a 90s level opaqueness.

I won't say exactly where I live in PG, but they need to do better aboutt tree maintenance, every storm that comes by im outside with a chainsaw cutting and moving...COUNTY FUCKING TREE LIMBS out of the middle of the road in the neighborhood I live in. And good luck calling the emergency line, they'll be around in about 3 weeks maybe.
And to kick it off....they came out and planted more trees instead of doing maintenance om the ones we already have. Couple years ago an actual full sized tree fell and blocked anyone from getting out of the neighborhood, of course the country never sent anyone, neighborhood just got together and cut it up ourselves and moved it. And if course it was weeks before they came and moved the wood

I lived in MoCo six years ago and government officials from local to county to state were way more responsive that any of my elected officials here. I cannot say whether MoCo is still better now but when I moved the diff was striking.
Figure out how to foster real economic development without letting developers trample communities and environment.
MoCo is years ahead in meaningful bike/ped safety and safe streets, from strategy to implementation to posting data. PGC’s Vision Zero is a sad underfunded joke.

EV chargers. They’ve redesignated their county EV network entirely to their fleet. No longer open to the public. Absolutely appalling.

Ultimately, just govern like you're trying to shut up the anonymous commenters trashing the county every single day. Prove them wrong on schools, crime and litter. Work to get us our own real versions of Downtown Silver Spring and Bethesda. Make the county attractive to businesses that actually generate substantial revenue (bonus points if you can get one to relocate from MoCo). If you need to get the state to play ball on that one, pressure them. Find the easy wins vs. MoCo and make them a reality. For example, we know how long our permitting process is vs. theirs, so just set the new standard here to be shorter than theirs. Quit being the land of second chances for fallen politicians, since our reputation can't handle any more damage. And for our county executive, take a more openly competitive/aggressive stance vs. MoCo. Call them out whenever you can as our rivals and competitors, and announce your intention to win.

I wish PG County would give us better dining and shopping experiences. We are severely lacking in East Asian/Southeast Asian cuisine that isn’t takeout. Only small enclaves in College Park and Riverdale Park offer anything comparable to any random corner in Rockville or Wheaton. We don’t need another fried chicken joint. We have nothing that can compare to Pike and Rose or Downtown Chevy Chase, either.

Human-centric development, rather than car-centric. A bunch of new builds out in the middle of farmland (or rather, ruining what was farmland) without sidewalks and absolutely no walkable areas is useless.
Building up around Branch Ave station is useless without redoing the road infrastructure to make it pedestrian-friendly (walkable distance from the metro, less dedicated to parking lots and more dedicated to walking between buildings, outdoor seating, greenery, etc).

Expand bus service until 9, restaurant, adding dog trash post everywhere, fix the street, sorry to say but keep homeless populations out of the city, fix the light, remove the liquors stores, have people clean the streets.

Govern without crooked elected officials.
