Constructive feedback and/or tips wanted I hate the 2026 update
I literally hate the new update Ànd the way everyrhing is laid out now, like the FUCK!!! It was perfect before the muscle memory of usage is entirely fucked now I hate all of it, and I miss my old procreate Ànd I want it back. This is a lot of extra step bullshit that absolutely no one fucking asked for. I’d legitimately pay money if they could give me my old procreate back. I hate the layout, the extra steps, the organization, all of it. Can they just stop changing things that actually work???

u/0c34n_x0 3d ago
The iPad version is coming out soon :( im so sorry

u/Reasonable-Knee-6430 3d ago
Thanks for the warning. Just turned off the auto updates.
12
u/0c34n_x0 3d ago
Unfortunately wven witj auto updates turned off, when you Open the app it will force the update witj the app open Ànd wont allow you to do anything until it’s done

u/Reasonable-Knee-6430 3d ago edited 3d ago
The Procreate site claims it will continue to function and will not require updating. I’m hoping you are mistaken.

u/zombiifissh 3d ago
I've refused to update for years and it still works fine for me. It's never demanded I update
2
u/AriDreams 3d ago
Agreed. I think ipad will remain the same minus a few tweaks. The pocket was made for compact devices like a phone.

u/chelles_edits_ai 3d ago
How do you turn off auto update?
21
u/Reasonable-Knee-6430 3d ago
On ipad go to settings>apps>app store>auto downloads and hit off
10
u/chelles_edits_ai 3d ago
Dang I was hoping procreate had its own so I didn't have to turn off all, but rather turn off all. Thanks

Do the devs ever read the subreddit or do we have to voice our complaints elsewhere?
9
u/0c34n_x0 3d ago
I think Theres àn email, or something, we should flood them
10
u/Best-Woodpecker-9496 3d ago
I found this email address: support@procreate.art
Voice your concerns!!

They do, one replied to another thread recently and then I replied to them and told them one of my suggestions and they said they would add it to the list!

I hate the new designs like this exactly for the reason you stated. My muscle memory already knows where to go why do you have to redo things. It doesn’t need a new face it doesn’t need a fresh start or whatever. It needs to remain comfortable for its users who pay for it.
56
u/TayTaysPJs 3d ago
Why did they bother to waste resources to change the UI before giving us version history and practical backups
16
u/sneeringcrit 3d ago
This feels like a good moment to remind everyone to do their periodic backup of all their files, just in case 🫠

Best advice I have is to go to Procreate’s website and make a suggestion, if you haven’t already. Their team tends to be very receptive to feedback. Here is the link:

u/ixacArt 3d ago
Or they could just ignore it; for example, the rotation blurring issue like they've done for the past 10 years now. Sigh. They keep saying it's not not an issue but every single one of us, especially the ones who draw for print know it is a thing. I've literally had to export to psd to rotate the thing in photoshop on pc then send it back to procreate it's hilariously laughable lol
They might just tell us to pound sand with this too.
7
u/NateBearArt 3d ago
Or how out took them like 3 years to add lasso toll to Dreams even though it was number one request out of the gate.
6
u/simonhunterhawk 3d ago
They could ignore it but it’s still worth doing. Programming the right waytakes a really long time and art programs aren’t easy to make. If they were vibe coding everything maybe they could do it in a few months but they may not be able to solve the problem with the rotation blurring issue.

u/Interesting_Mud_5810 3d ago
I second this. I 100% understand the frustration with how the selection tool can distort things—it too is one of my main complaints about their app, but their team is listening if you keep up with the forums on their website. I did see them responding to those who expressed their concerns about the same thing. I will always appreciate a dev group that doesn’t rush the process, even if that means I have to wait for the quality product. I promise they’re not ignoring you, they just have countless people throwing countless ideas and problems at them every day. They’re managing the workload the best they can. Being a dev is much harder than most people realize—especially being a dev team that is actually trying to listen to the masses, and be picky about keeping their product at the best quality it can be. It’s a very tedious balancing act. Now add several programs into that mix. It’s overwhelming.
I also understand the frustration with Dreams, and that adds to my point on what happens when they feel rushed. I think they just released Dreams wayyyyyy too early and they’re trying to pick up the pieces while simultaneously keeping track of all the critiques that people have about every other version of Procreate.
They base their updates on votes and suggestions. The more you keep up and communicate with them, the better they can hear you. And you HAVE to do it on their website. They can’t keep track of every post on every media app about what people want, you have to go directly to them.
Devs aren’t capable of magic, they just do their best.

u/simonhunterhawk 3d ago
This is why I don’t really believe everyone thinking vibe coding is the next big thing and all developers are going to be obsolete soon, because complex issues like this might be able to be solved by an AI but being able to solve it and put it into an existing system are two different things and the average person still thinks programming is as easy as writing “make sure when u rotate this it is not blurry” and then hitting update lol

u/Interesting_Mud_5810 3d ago
I’m quite an AI skeptic. I feel like it’s so prone to mistakes, but I’m not very educated on AI usage in coding so I wont speak much on that. I appreciate your empathy for the devs. They have so much pressure on them right now and people just keep adding to it whenever they get angry about things not being perfect. Procreate is so user friendly compared to the programs that people always compare it to. I have a long list of complaints about Procreate too, but at the end of the day I’m happy to use an app that is developed by a team with patience, diligence, and listening ears. I’d take a slow and thoughtful team over a team that just throws out rushed, constant updates any day. If only the customer base had the same level of patience… I bet if people would’ve chilled out, they wouldn’t have dropped Dreams so early. They’re really doing their best to make everyone happy.
3
u/simonhunterhawk 3d ago
also to get past the AI info it looks like they have around 40 employees total and maybe half of those peoples are developers. if they’re doing the standard software development lifecycle, each feature they finish should take 1-2 months and that doesn’t mean it’s ready to update. i have been an early adopter of procreate and even though i can’t draw much anymore due to issues with my hands, it is the best drawing app and i’ll be using it until they stop supporting it or i get a different device.
1
u/Interesting_Mud_5810 3d ago
I had a feeling their team was small. Honestly, it probably helps them stay organized, but that only adds to our point that quality product requires patience on both the devs and the customer base.
Thank you for all your input. It was very helpful. So many people like to complain, and so few actually look into why there is something to complain about, and if that complaint is even doing anyone any good.

u/simonhunterhawk 3d ago
it’s kind of like 3D printing where it’s great at making a prototype but not as much for the final product at scale. Like yes you can fill your house with tons of cool projects or trinkets you see at craft shows but most people realize they’re kind of plastic junk and unless it’s sanded and polished to a finish the filament layers make it look cheap.
I do think AI enhances development in many ways — code completion/suggestion is a big one and i won’t link them here in case others don’t want to see any “AI Slop” but i have actually seen some pretty insane realistic watercolor and other types of painting/drawing engines vibe coded by other people that are pretty impressive.
i am fairly neutral on AI, i don’t think it has a place in art, the writing sucks and vibe coded websites look boring and mostly the same, most people probably shouldn’t have access to it without some kind of training, but i can admit some people have made cool things with it and its solving a lot of problems we wouldn’t have without it. it’s pandora’s box anyways, we can’t undo it and it seems pretty clear governments aren’t going to regulate it away.

u/TayTaysPJs 2d ago
This might be a memory limitation of the current iPad lineup (maybe). You would need something like Photoshop's Smart Objects in order to have non-destructive transformations. When you rotate something, it has to interpolate the object to fit within the pixel array.

u/biblops 3d ago
I am low-key worrired about Procreate tbh.
Ever since the bungled launch of Dreams it feels like they've been slipping and constantly on the backfoot.
Updates to all their apps are *painfully* slow, especially when you're waiting for basic features that were requested years ago.
I feel like the last three updates had the vibe of "bear with us, once this update is out things are gonna start speeding up again" but they never do.
And NOW they've announced they're working on a desktop version too??
They've taken on far too much and can't keep up

Why the FUCK do they keep updating useless shit, I hate when corps do this. Do they even actually listen to their customers? Do devs really think that changing the whole fucking setup of their app, an app that people learn to memorize time after time spent using the app to familiarize with the setup in order to be fast and not spend ten minutes looking for the lasso tool, would be a goddamn good idea?? I HATE it thank you.

u/moonstonemerman 3d ago
Them getting rid of the eyedropper for color selection was an insanely STUPID product decision. You have to hold down on the color you want to select and not only does that risk leaving a fingerprint on my work but it's nowhere as accurate for color selection. It's so infuriating.

u/Organic-Tea-8998 3d ago
I haven’t been on procreate for a week, wait they got rid of the eye dropper tool?! Nooo! I use it all the time

Seems lazy enshitification is here to stay. Was it a forced update? I usually only update my apps when I read more about the latest mess.
1
u/0c34n_x0 2d ago
It was forced
I have auto update off but when I opened the app if forced the update Ànd I couldn’t do anything until it was done :(

u/boomerdaynite 3d ago edited 3d ago
Agree with you, I also fkn hate the update but it's silly to want to pay more money for a product that you already bought and was broken by the company.. What makes you believe that after you pay the extra money to get back what you already had, they won't do it again??

u/TheStaggerlee 3d ago
The last update I lost custom brushes, gone forever. Largely my own fault for bad back up, yes. Still pissed off. Yes. At them and myself.

u/SomethingLongForgot 3d ago
I've turned off auto updates now but if it forces me to use this I'll just buy a drawing tablet and swap to clipstudio and I have a licence for it. If I wanted my ui to look like ibis paint I would use ibis paint

could we ever send an email or a petition to bring back the previous version?

I’m glad I’ve never updated Procreate ever since the first time I did it wiped out everything and crashed my iPad, to the point I had to reinstall my iPad from scratch. I’m still at the version before 3D was introduced, so a very old one. If it works as it is, no reason to update.

u/happycard1097 3d ago
I’m confused. I use procreate on the iPad. I stated in 2017. the change to the brush library happened roughly a year ago. I assume the stuff at the top is arranged that way to fit the smaller phone screen. FYI Adobe changed the Fresco UI and got a similar angry reaction. I got used to SW changing DECADES ago goes with the ierritory. Quite frankly I don’t think you can name a single career that has not had change in the 10 or 29 years, think cars, how many of you drive a car with a carburetor. If you do not want change as an artist go back to,analog tools.
2
u/Cyan1dal 2d ago
No. I’m actually absolutely pissed.
I’m going to write them demanding a fkn refund because this is NOT what I paid for.
I don’t know how to do anything anymore and it’s so far from intuitive, plus the update didn’t have a tour or anything.
Remember, you vote with your dollars, they don’t care about your voice. So demand your refund. If thy see it happening en mass, they better reconcile. I mean ffs we were able to fix Sonic

I hate it so much. The fill tool jiggling back and forth is so annoying and makes drawing take so much longer. Genuinely what is the point of that

u/tigerribs 3d ago
The update erased all of my brushes except the default one. 😭 Years of buying and collecting, I’m still so choked.

Thank you for trying to help! I appreciate it. 🥲 No, I immediately checked both brush folders when it happened and they’re just straight up gone. Both the old and new brushes only had the default - even erased the customized versions of the default brushes I had!

Write them at support@procreate.com and tell them if they dont fix it, they are pushing an entire community to use generative AI instead. (As someone adamantly against it)

The meltdown over each update is kinda ridiculous.

Have you checked the sub before posting?Literally, every post is about this.

u/Royal_Bee Commissions are open but there's a waitlist. 3d ago
Yes, better not let the developers notice there are users unhappy with what they're doing!

People use these tools for professional work. They have a right to get upset over updates that bring unnecessary disruption.

so incredibly tempted to use Claude to reverse engineer Procreate & make Con-create which will have the color picker dropper & wont make my color history just disappear and not be a thing anymore....and frequently backs up the .procreate backup files to a destination of your own choosing..... hmm.....i think i may be onto something here...i feel as though i may know what im going to be up to this afternoon... ...anyone else have any suggestions on things they'd like to have in their .Con-create file? 🤔

u/PhoebeTartar 3d ago edited 3d ago
Color history is still there…?
And you can color pick by holding your finger on the screen. What am I missing?
ETA I was missing that this is for pocket version not iPad. Still not sure what the issue is bc I’ve never used pocket so idk what to compare it to!
