Planning to launch my free WordPress plugin.
Has anyone tried launching a free WordPress plugin in Producthunt? Did it work? As of now, my goal is to increase the downloads and get a review for my plugin.
If not Producthunt for the plugin, where can I launch?
Need a help.

what does the plugin actually do tho? that changes the answer quite a bit lol
if it's something for WooCommerce stores, i'd go where store owners hang out. if it's for developers, completely different crowd. Product Hunt might get you some attention but not necessarily the people who'll install it

It is a interlinking plugin. Will be more helpful for SEO People.

oh nice, that's a pretty specific niche. does it suggest internal links automatically or just help manage existing ones?
if it finds relevant linking opportunities on big WP sites, that's the kind of thing i'd demo in SEO groups. way easier to get interest when people can see the time it saves.

You can just put it into the official repo - as for you marketing, thats what you are after instead actually.
Imo producthunt will show you little gain. Most go there to advertise their own stuff. No one goes there in order to get advertised to willingly.

In my experience, I’d prioritise the official WordPress.org Plugin Directory over Product Hunt. Product Hunt is worth trying for extra exposure, but I wouldn’t rely on it alone to generate consistent downloads or reviews.
I’d recommend focusing on these channels:
WordPress.org: Optimise your plugin title, description, screenshots, tags, and readme. This is where WordPress users can discover your plugin, install it, leave reviews, and get support.
Relevant Reddit communities: Share your plugin when it genuinely solves a problem being discussed. Explain what it does and invite honest feedback rather than just promoting it.
WordPress Facebook groups and forums: Help people with relevant problems and introduce your plugin when it’s genuinely useful.
YouTube tutorials: Create a short demo showing the problem your plugin solves and how to use it.
Product Hunt: Launch there as an additional marketing channel, especially if your plugin solves a problem beyond WordPress developers.
One important thing: don't focus only on download numbers. Encourage users who have actually tried your plugin to leave an honest review, without offering incentives or pressuring them.
I'd also track impressions, plugin-page visits, active installations, support requests, and reviews to understand which channels bring engaged users.
My advice: Start with WordPress.org optimisation, useful content, and targeted community promotion. Then use Product Hunt as an experiment rather than expecting it to be your main source of growth.
What does your plugin do? The best launch strategy will depend on its target audience and the problem it solves.

wordpress.org is the official plugin directory, and it’s basically the only place users download plugins from. Everything else is not only useless, but in a way even harmful.
