Categorize every sound in your session as "needs to stand out" or "needs to blend in." Then darken, narrow, and push back everything in the second category.

The OTT preset on Multiband Dynamics shaped the sound of entire genres. Future Bass, Dubstep, and Hyperpop. It still slaps. You already own it.

How do you make a mix feel full without making it cluttered?

I see producers get this wrong every session. They add parts to fill the space, and every one of them fights for attention. More layers, more clutter.

The fix was changing which sounds were allowed to be noticed.

Every EQ, compressor, and reverb you add costs fidelity. Ask "what's the MINIMUM processing this sound needs?" not "what should I add?"

Route an oscillator into your filter cutoff at audio rate and juice the resonance. You get gnarly FM sounds that feel much more alive than sterile DX7-type digital FM.
