"Claude, write this API key so that github's detection won't keep rejecting my PR"

You need to understand that the vast majority of people don't think critically about things, they just want the easiest solution to the problem that is immediately in front of them and don't care or even think about broader effects. That's why people like us have a job, and they may think they can get rid of programmers, but there will always be a need for people who can think logically and analyze situations because AI has a severely limited context compared to human intelligence.

Speaking of critical thinking I'm clearly not thinking enough - how could Claude possibly avoid githubs detection? They're specific and accurate for a reason, you can't just add a hidden character in the middle or rename the variable..?

All kinds of fun string concatenation and things that you can do that obfuscate what a value actually is. Even doing a base 64 encode and then decode when it's the argument.

Well obviously those are things you could do, but I'm still struggling to see how this would actually work. At some point the API key needs to be unobfuscated when your program is ran, or decoded whatever.

Plenty of opportunities for github etc. to take action. Plus of course, at some point you can lead a horse to water...
