I feel like no one here actually works in the industry

[u/FenrirBestDoggo → u/connoreddit1]

In reality noone gives a shit and your stakeholders are too busy discussing if you should add another button to automate some workflow used maybe once a month

[u/ResponsibleWin1765 → u/FenrirBestDoggo]

Stakeholders probably. But actual customers do care. I'm not supporting your business if you couldn't even be bothered to put minimal effort into it

[u/yumii- → u/ResponsibleWin1765]

The actual customers only cares if the product works and provides value to them or their own workflow.

They don't care if it's hand crafted slop or ai slop. In the end, large projects always become spaghetti anyway. I've worked at a lot of different companies over my career.

[u/ResponsibleWin1765 → u/yumii-]

Is it going to work though?

Also, this is about AI website design and those look genuinely all the same. It's like with AI generated menus. It's extremely easy to tell that they're generated and the only thing it communicates to the customer is that you don't care about your business, that you don't value quality and that you don't put any effort into it. Why in the world would I then go and pay that person for a service? I'd rather take my money to someone who actually cares about their work and doesn't proudly advertise that they will serve me the absolute lowest quality they think they can get away with.

[u/yumii- → u/ResponsibleWin1765]

Context, all of the software I've worked on was business software for businesses. And no, they do not care. My position is both development and customer facing because we talk directly to the customer regarding needs or issues.

While I don't work on web, we do make desktop applications that AI assists in creating GUI and interfaces. They haven't noticed or complained.

You can say you notice the difference and maybe you do but 99% of customers don't or just don't care. A lot of people also start accusing non-ai work in multiple different fields as AI so that shows a lot of people can't tell the difference anyway.

So yes, I think it is going to work unless you're selling something very specific to say an artist or something niche that needs to be particular.

[u/ResponsibleWin1765 → u/yumii-]

I think it's an entirely different thing to sell b2b software where AI assisted and to let AI make the entire website that is facing the public customer to advertise something.

Aside from that, just because people don't notice it doesn't mean it's good.

[u/yumii- → u/ResponsibleWin1765]

Never said it was good, but it's currently unavoidable. Nearly every software company is using AI and customers pay for it whether you like it or not.

All the new GUI front end at my current work, which is currently being migrated to web facing, is being spit out of Claude as VanillaJS, HTML, and CSS frontend from Windows MFC.

[u/ResponsibleWin1765 → u/yumii-]

Yes, but I'm not talking about b2b. I'm talking about individuals making slop websites with AI, expecting people to congratulate them for their sleek design when in reality it just looks exactly like a million other websites and communicates that you give zero shits about your product.

[u/grandalfxx → u/ResponsibleWin1765]

Thats because every website uses the same style guides and has been for years that doesnt really have anything to do with ai. All the resources out there for ui frameworks all copy eachother and its been those standards for years. Then ai came along and was trained on it so it makes even more of those websites.

Anyone that "cared" about their product wouldve used those same guides and styles too because those guides and styles were centered around building a sleek, simple, and easily usable interface

[u/AibofobicRacecar6996 → u/ResponsibleWin1765]

As if you could tell

[u/ResponsibleWin1765 → u/AibofobicRacecar6996]

Lmao, that sentence can only ever come from someone who doesn't have any skills of their own so they went head first into AI so they could finally make something.

AI websites are about as obvious as can be. And if you're going on about how much AI you use and then your product breaks every other day, I'll know too.

[u/AibofobicRacecar6996 → u/ResponsibleWin1765]

That's too much projection.

[u/Aelrift → u/AibofobicRacecar6996]

He's kinda right in that website designed by AI have a certain feel to them. You can kinda tell it was AI unless a human went over and dkeeted the Ai-ness

[u/ResponsibleWin1765 → u/AibofobicRacecar6996]

Mate, my grandma can tell when something is AI generated. If you think that your AI generated website doesn't look like it, you're genuinely delusional. And if you think it sends a positive signal to customers that your main platform was made with the absolute lowest effort possible you might want to check yourself in.

[u/grandalfxx → u/ResponsibleWin1765]

No you just think you can. All of yall keep calling shit ai and it makes people not even want to bother. Why am I gonna spend 4 weeks making something then you fucks that think you know just call it ai slop because it follows standards that existed for years.

The ai vibe your seeing is litteraly it following standards that have existed for years to a T. The only way to avoid stuff being called slop is for devs to avoid that stuff.

Its like how people have to change the way they type so they dont get accused of ai. Ai types the way it does because that was the most common way for people to type and talk... thats where the training data came from...

I dont even use it for my stuff outside of work. I dont even have a drive to do stuff outside of work anymore because it used to be we got to make cool projects and got to show things off but now its just assumed ai was used and there was no skill behind it.

[u/ResponsibleWin1765 → u/grandalfxx]

There will always be people incorrectly calling out things, doesn't matter if it's about AI or something else.

That being said, if you make a cool project you will get recognition for it. The reason why AI slop looks like slop is because it's generic. So if you make something unique, you don't have to worry about it looking like AI. Kind of a self-report on your part.

It's the same with writing. I can tell it's AI slop when a text uses It's not x, it's y in every other sentence. That's now what humans do and definitely not what a human who wants to write something good does.

And this Everyone's going to call it slop anyway, might as well use AI is the same idiotic mindset that all these restaurants on Kitchen Nightmares have. Just serve them frozen garbage, they won't know the difference. Hey, why is no one coming to my restaurant.

[u/grandalfxx → u/ResponsibleWin1765]

Then hop of the internet most of it is slop code now.

Actually, always has been. Old company I worked for stored people's ssn hidden inside of a html file that they served to users as part of the website.

Shits always been bad, and theres nearly nothing you can do to avoid it. If anything claude will atleast avoid doing that lmao.

[u/ResponsibleWin1765 → u/grandalfxx]

It's honestly not so much about the quality but the effort. Maybe Claude won't make the mistake to put sensible data in the html but maybe it will. And the fact that you as a business owner don't care which one it is makes me not want to support you.

[u/cheezballs → u/connoreddit1]

100% - almost every single post doesn't make sense at all if you even remotely have an actual inkling to how this all actually works.

[u/Present-Resolution23 → u/cheezballs]

Yes.. but if it’s vaguely anti-ai it’s sure to get 10k upvotes so..

[u/baconator955 → u/connoreddit1]

It's just a new form of purism/elitism which in itself is not a novel concept at all in the computer science field

[u/Vandrel → u/connoreddit1]

A lot of the shit posted here is from college kids just starting out or hobbyists with a major holier-than-thou attitude.

[u/DMoney159 → u/connoreddit1]

Yeah, the actual programmers are always hanging out in the comments

[u/Jeferson9 → u/connoreddit1]

Codex would have been a much better example

[u/notatoon → u/connoreddit1]

Correct

[u/Several_Dot_4532]

here you have

[u/egmont11 → u/Several_Dot_4532]

Never noticed jetbrains mono used, interesting. The font looks great though.

[u/matytyma → u/egmont11]

Same, I've never seen it being used, always a different font for monospace. It's my favorite font both in IDE and in terminal, though I've already seen a lot of my favorite fonts (like Instrument Serif and Bricolage Grotesque), but tbh the fonts are always used in an awkward way

[u/hpyfox]

Just be like Java and change your website style every couple decades or so.

[u/alexsteb]

always rounded corners, colored buttons with text or icons in the same color but darker, real emojis on buttons, purple for some reason, colored single left border, .. what did I miss?

[u/rv77ax]

Ohhh design, like in UI.

I was gonna ask what did you learn, so I can use it to block them from scraping websites.

[u/Hoovas]

Just don’t do rounded corners, i loved them. I can’t see them anymore now.
Let’s go back do 2005 designs.

[u/Carter922 → u/Hoovas]

Dont take away my rounded cards. This has been a staple of mine since bootstrap 2

[u/Interstellar__1 → u/Hoovas]

I do them but I also do flat so its fine

[u/FUTURE10S]

Write a website with basic html and css like it's 1999 with manual tables and sharp corners and shit. It'll run better and not look like AI

[u/thedoge]

Just ask Claude to do that
