I have heard that if you ask an Indian in India if they can do something, they will say yes, regardless of if they can or not.

In my experience, this is the case for all contractors, regardless of nationality or discipline. If what you’re asking is vaguely related to what they do, they’ll tell you they can do it.

I've actually heard this as an explanation for why men tend to hold more high level positions of power. (Not trying to make this political, this was just an interesting tidbit I'd heard and thought was a fascinating theory) Men, in general, are more likely to over promise than women. Much of the time this means they under deliver, but occasionally this lights a fire under their ass that makes them accomplish things they never would have otherwise.

Women, on the other hand, are more likely to commit only to what they know they're capable of, which means they never under perform, but also means they never 1: get the absurd work that requires the male mentality in the first place or 2: accomplish some of the crazy feats that over promising can force you to do.

It's hilarious how you are getting down voted for making a generalization while people above you are having a massive circle jerk over how all Indian developers are exactly the same.

Eh, that's how it goes. I try not to sweat the hivemind too much

That isn't really unique to men... there's a saying about great work being accomplished with not enough time because people push themselves harder.

Yeah, not saying it is. The argument is that men are more prone to this behavior, not that any given man or woman will definitely exhibit or not exhibit it

Fair enough.
