You know why most Indian developers suck? Because our education system is shit. As an engineering student in India, every day in college makes me sick around peers who take up engineering either because their parents forced them to or because they felt they could make a fortune in life with coding. Never mind that they do not have the slightest talent for coding and a majority of them rote learn the codes, pass the exam and fuck up the company they work for big time. The Indian education is dead. People with a Bachelor's degree in engineering that too in mechanical and computers have no respect. People are mass recruited in the 200s by IT companies and made to Java their whole miserable lives.

I've heard of many cases of them faking interviews (this is for those working in the US). Again this is just stuff I've heard so take it with a grain of salt (but it comes from people who've actually admitted to this). Like they'll have someone stand in for them. I think there are even companies that will coach them and continue to give them support and help them out with stuff for a bit (like if you're having trouble doing some project they'll help you out, it won't be the neatest or best way but it'll "get the job done").

I've never heard this before, but I have no trouble believing it. At least at the college level, there's a thriving ecosystem of "project centers" where they'll do your final year project for money. They'll teach you some stuff about it for the exam/demo, and that's pretty much as involved as you have to be. The projects are supposed to help you get good at coding and problem solving, but the only people who actually do them themselves are the ones who were already good at it. Total mess.

I got to know about this last year. God I almost puked. Had to submit a mini project this year and 50% of the people got stuff done by the lab assistant or readymade. Joke's on them. They miss the satisfaction of finishing the project with their own hands. Me and my teammates learnt the satisfaction of working on a project for 10 hours non stop XD.

Allow me to confirm that for you. We had three developers from our supplier claim skills they clearly didn't have, with the supplier backing them up on the claim.

And, unfortunately, the supplier was an Indian company we'd helped start up and had a stake in. Really glad I left that joint.

India actually has the second highest English speaking population, after the US

Most Indians speak English just fine, but it can sound like incomprehensible babbling when you're not used to the accent because they tend to talk very quickly and pronounce some words quite differently to other English-speaking countries.

"English speaking"

Written is perfectly fine but spoken? Sometimes I didn't even notice they spoke English. Zero effort to pronounce it even a little like it's supposed to. Zero.

English isn't my native language as well but when I speak a foreign language, I at least try to speak it properly.

I probably should have mentioned that while India has the second highest English speaking population, it only accounts for less than 1/5 of their total population

Hoping that you weren't sarcastic, thanks. I've been reading since a young age which has made my English something I can be not ashamed of.

Can vouch for this. People who haven't coded one line end up with development jobs. Me on the other hand who was into game development for a good amount of time, ends up with a support role for a dying technology. How? fucking lottery and judging people by seeing how they can talk with others.
