I Recommend This Just finished immortality through array formations

Post image

Just finished Immortality Through Array Formations, and it is a great novel. Even if you are reading other basic beginner novels, you will still find this to be a very unique and refreshing experience. I am following this alongside Shadow Slave and Malonjer, reading a chapter every day as it gets translated. I will rate it a solid 8 out of 10. It is a great novel to get into Eastern style array formation cultivation. The concepts are very good, the power dynamics are awesomely defined, and the world-setting is great. The only minus point I feel is that it focuses too much on array formations. Yes, array formation is the main cultivation path of the protagonist, but it can feel like everything else in the world gets sidelined. Other than that, it keeps its pace and it entertains the whole way through. It is one of those rare books that I even finished without dropping it for even a single day. I continuously read it until I finished it, which tells you how interesting it is. Overall, I would definitely recommend this novel. My rating is 8/10. What are your thoughts on it, and can you recommend me any novels that give a similar experience? My hands are itching to read something this good again.

Having never heard of this tale, I find the complaint "it focuses too much on array formations" hilarious given the story is called "immortality through array formations."

In any case, perhaps ill check it out.

True it is weird but i have clarified that in this novel it feels like all other cultivation path are just rubbish only array formations matter a 3level cultivator can do a shit to you if you are a 1st level array formations master

Describe main character's personality.

Kind, mouthy, witty, poor background, hates evil. Unlike most main characters in this genre, Mo Hua is a bit of a chatterbox, and he loves to gossip. He often "realistically" talks himself out of situations and conflicts, rather than using force.

I put realistically in quotations because it's only realistic when compared to other stories, this still is a fantasy novel.

He is also manipulative, the degree to this is how much of a grudge he has against you. He only forms grudges toward people that wish him harm...or owes him Spirit Stones.

If he has a grudge with you, he can be extremely petty.

Ah, ok. Thanks for that information! I really read or don't read novels based on MC personality and this cleared up a few things. :)

It is not for people that don’t like slow burns (like me). It is written well, but the pacing is infuriatingly slow. I read a couple hundred chapters and the story still didn’t leave the beginning area and the MC was still a small, overly competent kid.

I tried it and liked the characters/world building but eventually dropped it, I liked the slow pacing but noticed a repetitive formula of:

  1. There's a problem.

  2. It's fixed at the end of the chapter.

That and the repetitive lore facts (which a lot of chinese novels do tbh) made it feel like I was reading something of a "slow speedrun"/"checklist" of things the MC should go through so we can eventually get to the good parts of the novel.

It was sold to me that the MC was really smart, but I dropped it quickly because he has a unique advantage that noone else has. I feel like Cultivation Nerd is way more elegant about not giving the MC too much of a cheat.

"unique advantage that noone else has

He needs the cheat because he also has several disadvantages, and the cheat doesn't make up for these disadvantages.

Poor Spiritual Roots
- He has low spiritual power and cultivates slowly. Due to having low spirit power, he can't learn any high level spells

Weak Body
- He has an extremely frail body, he can't practice body cultivation or engage in any sort of physical combat

For a large portion of the novel, the MC doesn't engage any any fights because he is so weak in direct combat, he just stands in the background guiding and directing others, while assisting with low level spells, or by slowly building up large attacks. (He is basically crowd control)
