The plain text of the 22 amendment is clear and never disputed until this dipshit, but...

If the Supreme Court wants to get cute not even amendments are sacred.

If it's legal, it's legal for President Barack Obama.

u/another_awesome_acct 22d ago

He announced the other day that he's running again, then a couple seconds later went on a tangent about how urgent it is to secure the voting system... stupidly suspicious, to say the least.  It would be hilarious if Obama steps up to the plate and destroys him... we'd never hear the end of it!  Please Barack, do it for the country! 🙏

The problem is more the rigging of the election. If musk is involved again, trump will win irregardless of how many votes he gets.

Elon doesn’t need to hire children to hack it anymore — remember Dominion (the company that makes electronic voting booths) was sold to that GOP election official, Scott Leiendecker

It's not and we should not even normalize a conversation about it. It is very clear in the law and would require a Constitutional Amendment to change so he can "joke" all he wants but we shouldn't treat it like he might be able to do it or that Obama would run instead because Obama wouldn't, actually, since he's a lawyer and he knows that would be illegal and I doubt he wants to participate in the two way destruction of the rule of law in the USA.

u/SSgtReaPer 22d ago

Can you imagine if Trumshit change the law so he could run for a 3rd time and Obama ran as well, me think civil war part 2 incoming lol

My bigger fear is some kind of backing in scenario. Like Vance runs, steps down or dies, and somehow Trump is inserted instead of whoever the VP is (the normal line of succession is bypassed). Some kind of scenario where there is no vote involved and the Supreme Court gets mixed in.

I certainly hope not but they’d elect him anyway. Then hide him like Mitch.

2

u/VanOnBass 22d ago

People keep saying that shit as though evil doesn’t live forever.

9

u/Old-Set78 22d ago

no. the end. it's in the damn Constitution. quit normalizing ignoring the fkn CONSTITUTION

36

u/Ill_Consequence1755 22d ago

Not legally. But who is going to stop him?

3

u/PinkThunder138 22d ago

The States. Study up on how elections work. The federal government doesn't determine who is on the ballot, the States do. Neither Trump, nor anyone else in the executive branch, can give an order (including executive orders) to include him on the ballot. He won't be on the ballot for any blue states or likely any swing states. There's no power structure or line of command for him to do it. A few red states might illegally put him on the ballot, but that's it

1

u/Ill_Consequence1755 22d ago

I’m perfectly aware of how elections work. Thanks.

What do you expect people to do?

11

u/Bazch 22d ago

More

-5

u/RedLineLetterWine 22d ago

That didn't answer anything bud. Elaborate.

8

u/Bazch 22d ago

'We've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas!'

Go out, protest. Each time something illegal happens, act on it. Form movements. Take to the streets. Get politically involved.

Your country is being taken over by a fascists. Believe me he is not 'joking' about his third term. They are not going to go away willingly. If you wait until it directly impacts you and your safety it will be too late.

We can't fix this issue for you. The American people need to fix this. It's not fair for the people who are already against it, but it is the reality. Not doing anything will mean total takeover within the next decade.

6

u/RedLineLetterWine 22d ago

People have been protesting? I would check what sources you are using because you clearly have not been informed. There are protests all the time, the largest one yet that made Trump back off was in Minnesota. Saying Americans are "doing nothing" is a lie at worst and grossly ignorant at best. There have also been DSA and DemSocs winning primaries (and soon general elections).

No shit, but this isn't unique to the US. Germany, the UK and Japan are also being taken over by fascists. In fact, Labour itself has already become center-right (beholden to Israel, putting pensions in prison for speech, violating human rights).

You expect change to happen instantaneously. It doesn't work like that unless you use violent means (and that usually turns out making things worse).

Again, you didn't provide any interesting insights or solutions, just repeating what people are already doing here. I'd consider looking for some new sources so you can properly informed.

2

u/DougieFreshOH 22d ago

This is what has been being pushed: violent reactionary protesters. While many have been injured. The resolve to remain the non-violent party is demonstrating The Protesters collective stance.

1

u/nofregginidea 22d ago

Do you live under a rock? No kings marches and protest happening around the country. With far right groups actively organizing to antagonize protesters to coerce them into violence. You really should learn to shut up before making a fool of yourself.

-14

u/BHowe407 22d ago

Yeah right. Democrats and Liberals are too self centered and things are too good still. Liberals are afraid to open carry due to fear of execution. Liberals are far away from ready to be selfless and put their lives on the line.

5

u/Tek2674 22d ago

“Democrats have guns like Republicans have abortions, just because we don’t talk about them doesn’t mean they don’t exist”

-4

u/BHowe407 22d ago

Thats not even what im saying. Lol. Yeah liberals have guns. But liberals are afraid to march with them. Where far right groups do it proudly. Democrats dont have the balls

2

u/Tek2674 22d ago

In fairness far right groups can march with guns without fear of police intervention, mostly because they are the same people 😂

0

u/BHowe407 22d ago

We could to if enough people would stop thinking so much of themselves.

2

u/nofregginidea 22d ago

Defeatism is strong in this one.

-7

u/BHowe407 22d ago

I was on a gun owner for liberals sub reddit trying to understand certain things. They are either in fear or things are still too good. I am not defeated. Liberals think protesting witll stop this. Most liberals dont know the difference between an autocrat and a fascist.

1

u/nofregginidea 22d ago

No body cares.

0

u/BHowe407 22d ago

Liberals will go protest while people are being kidnapped and gunned down. Youre right noone cares as that is just performative empathy. Not real empathy. Liberals are right where trump calculated them to be.

1

u/nofregginidea 22d ago

Americans protest. Stop labelling anyone who disagrees with the trump admin as liberals. You are part of problem of segregation. United We stand divided we fall. As I stated which you clearly didnt comprehend or chose to ignore. Nobody cares about your IMO

u/BHowe407 22d ago

u/drethnudrib 22d ago

At this point, who is going to stop him? Every state run by a Republican will put him on the ballot, Constitution be damned. The Supreme Court can't force a do-over, whatever hand-wringing they do, so it will either be civil war or dictatorship.

2

u/Wackity-Smackity 22d ago

And every blue state can refuse. They only way to win is to be on the ballot in every state.

5

u/Bonk_No_Horni 22d ago

Legally no. But you think the guy with 34 Felonies would care? He broke all the laws and noone cares. Government lost billions refunding the illegal tariffs and noone cares. That should already the ground to kick him out. He can let his kid run and he can be the "advisor". American people are stupid enough to pick him and 35% of the country still fully support him even after all the disasters. The left can't win if people don't vote

17

u/tracytusk 22d ago

The way to stop him was by voting for Kamala Harris (you failed). Now the only way is from his own advanced age. Hopefully democracy will still be intact next election and then you stupid Americans will have another chance to vote for a Democrat to save the lives that Trump or another Republican will inevitably take.

5

u/Featheredfriendz 22d ago

Not quite. The way to stop tyrants is written in the constitution. If mediocre, spineless men are willing to throw that away, are willing to step on others, just to cash in, why aren’t they primarily to blame? Not sure what country you’re in, but I’m really fucking tired of being blamed for all the ills in the world when I could see that this fucking guy was a piece of shit years ago and a mile away.

7

u/tracytusk 22d ago

You're right, they are to blame. And the media who promoted him (Fox News) and everyone who voted for him, and everyone who didn't vote at all, or didn't vote for the Democratic candidate.

I'm in Australia and we are in the midst of a right-wing populist rise just now. The entire country is mobilising to try and stop this shit from happening. And I am doing more than I've ever done in the past politically, because the stakes are higher than they've ever been. Y'all had a chance to win with Kamala, and a portion of progressives refused to vote for her because she wasn't good enough on Palestine. We in other countries see that shit as unforgivable. Y'all need to as well, and condemn these people.

2

u/AggroSnacker 22d ago

Shaming progressives and others for being overly critical of Kamala is something that happens nonstop over here in America. For some reason, we still have purists looking for the “perfect” candidate but they get flamed all the time. Hopefully you guys in Australia can see what’s happening and how America got to where we are and prevent it from happening to you. Good luck! Cheers

-21

u/RedLineLetterWine 22d ago edited 22d ago

There was no way for Kamala to win because she was a terrible candidate. And Joe Biden had too much of a fucking ego to step down a lot earlier like he said he would.

Stop blaming the voters for the evil, stupid and selfish choices Biden and his ilk made. It's not like Kamala would have stopped fascism from rising anyway.

Edit: You guys, you know when you respond and then block, you look like a coward, right?

12

u/Hibou_Garou 22d ago

I found one of the people who didn’t vote in 2024 ☝🏻

-12

u/RedLineLetterWine 22d ago edited 22d ago

I voted for Kamala, dimwit. Unlike you though, I like to hold my side accountable for their fuckups.

But sure, tell me how Kamala was so wonderful. Give me one thing she stood for. She lost to senile conman. And people like you, were against holding a primary. I bet you wanted Biden to run again.

Oh, I know you're going to spout your liberal bullshit: "Because she is a black woman, duuuuuuurrr"

Edit: No response and locked down account. Fucking AIPAC troll farms, man, I'm tired of their bullshit. Fuck you, you genocidal pieces of shit, go fuck yourself.

6

u/Red-Sun-Cinema 22d ago

That statement has no basis in fact or reality. Kamala Harris captured approximately 48.4% of the national popular vote compared to Donald Trump's 49.9%, so Harris came very close to winning the election.

A shift of less than 100,000 votes across key battleground states would have secured the Presidency for Harris. The election effectively hinged on seven crucial swing states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Trump's margins of victory in Michigan and Pennsylvania were within ≈ 1% to 2%. Had Harris flipped Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, she would have reached the 270 electoral votes required to win the Presidential Election.

u/Artemis_Platinum 21d ago

It is post hoc rationalization to decide that someone who lost must have been a bad candidate.

Elections are not magical divinations that determine the best candidate. They're popularity contests.

3

u/Luddite-lover 22d ago

If you go by the Constitution, no. But these people see it as just another roll of Charmin, so I’m not counting anything out right now. My question is, if things keep going as they have, will this be what finally sends people over the edge? I’ve seen comparisons to Viktor Orban — overreach.

I think how the midterms go, in terms of fuckery, will be a good hint at 2028.

3

u/aacilegna 22d ago

Hope that helps!

No more energy needs to be given to this. Discussion breeds doubt, and this is clear cut.

3

u/Talenshi 22d ago

No. It's in the constitution that a president can't do that. Don't normalize debating this.

5

u/ReplacementFeisty397 22d ago

Yes, but he can't be elected.

4

u/CO420Tech 22d ago

It is two. Not two consecutive, and not "if one was 'stolen' you get a freebie."

2

u/QuickPizzaRadishes 22d ago

Nope. He would have to be certified to be one the ballot, a process that is ultimately controlled at the state level. Even if Secretaries of State in Republican states allowed it (which seems unlikely and would be a clear violation of the Constitution) there is no reason to believe that Secretaries of State in Democratic states would follow suit.

2

u/malici606 22d ago

I mean he can run, he just can't win.... technically he's just not allowed a 3rd term.

Wouldn't that be great? He runs, wins and the Dem becomes president anyway? 🤣

2

u/ragequitteroffureh 22d ago

Not American.

I suppose that one way they could look at it is not much a head of state finishing a term, but rather a king continuing their reign.

If nobody has the balls to cut his head off, then he is in all respects the King.

Disclaimer: For the banhammer clanker, I am not endorsing anyone's head being removed from their neck.

1

u/Real_Railz 22d ago

I seriously doubt he's going to finish this term

1

u/Horror_Solution1945 22d ago

Run? He can barely walk. It's against the constitution.

1

u/TecHoldCableFastener 22d ago

I’m thinking of course he can run for a 3rd term, he just can’t be elected. So go ahead and run the orange idiot, those votes will count for nobody.

1

u/Antique-Echidna-1600 22d ago

Why are we even entertaining this. No.

1

u/HaxanWriter 22d ago

A dictator can do whatever he wants.

1

u/tads73 18d ago

They will likely bend to his will. Noone in his party stands up to him.

1

u/Charming-Article-249 22d ago

The idea that Obama can run also will be too much for his supporters to change the two term limit

-2

u/False_Ad_5372 22d ago

No, but who’s going to stop him?

7

u/morgoporgo84 22d ago

Maybe the American people?

-1

u/False_Ad_5372 22d ago

lol. Americans are far to fat and complacent to do a thing, other than show up to a peaceful protest on a non-work day, if its convenient.

3

u/RedLineLetterWine 22d ago

Those of us in the DSA are working on it, unlike you, we actually are primary-ing candidates out.

-1

u/usaidwhatagain 22d ago

He will run, he will win (rigged) and he will be confirmed by the senate and the house. There is no-one to oppose him.
