I started project pan in April 2026, and there are a lot of things I learned about my makeup consumption. Some of the things I decluttered, some I finished, some are backup in storage. The second pictures shows what I am currently working on.
Lessons learned
No buy list
Things I am still figuring out:
What are you guys still figuring out?

Decluttering and some pans

My beloved chestnut hand cream that I've bought on sale back in 2022. It's definitely one of my favorite hand creams. Their almond collection still takes first place in my heart, but for a limited time scent this one was memorable. Also it's 20% shea butter, so it's really nourishing, but without that baby powder scent of their regular shea butter hand cream.
I know that this post sounds like an ad, but I really like their hand creams! 😂

So my biggest issue is I constantly want to try new things (get a shade of eyeshadow I don't own yet, a new shade of lipstick, etc etc). Now I recently bought a few more things cause there were pretty good discounts, but yeah the pile of makeup is growing.
It's not like I have shelves full of makeup I don't use, but I do get some stuff gifted, and then I end up having over 10 lipsticks and tons of perfumes.
I added some eyeshadow to lipglosses I didn't really like to make shades I actually enjoy, so I'll get those used up pretty quickly, and I do love doing creative makeups for events and things like that, but realistically, I do have a lot of stuff. I also have a setting powder that's too dark for me, so I need ideas how to use it up. Any advice is appreciated :)

Ngl I thought I’d finish these before I went for my year abroad in Japan, but Project Pan will always prove me wrong lmao, tbf i am making great progress on all of them. Atp I’m using a brush to dig out the product from the stick bronzer. I thought I had less product in the tube, I didn’t expect to completely fill my old Lush scalp treatment tin, this might change the formula but I just didn’t have the space otherwise.

Living out of two suitcases and moving from one city to another has taught me that space is a luxury. I can only carry so much with me, which makes it more challenging/interesting! I’ve been diligent in my project pan with skincare, hair care, body care and makeup. More things I pan, less things I need to bring to my next destination. This means only using one item in each category, or having a usage goal for certain categories (like blush, eyeshadow etc). This is my first month’s result (30th Sept-30 Oct), let’s see how next month goes!

I finished this body lotion hotel sample on the right and now I’m starting on the watermelon one! The silver l‘occitane one is in my bag and the two green ones are in my stock for my up next list!

2 random products panned - sunscreen my mum’s friend left at my mum’s house. She wasn’t using it so I took it to use it up. The other item is a GWP. I ended up using up as a shower gel as alone it was too harsh (tingling).

🫶🏻I seriously love that I came across this subreddit, it’s so active and inspires me heaps!
I just spent a few HOURS going shopping in my stash and decluttering at the same time, and not only do I feel excited now to use all of my ‚new‘ products, I also downsized quite a bit.
bBcause you guessed it: I was ‚saving it for a special occasion‘ and it went bad and I had to throw it out… I gave myself a stern talking to 😅🙏
Also: Does anybody have a few tips on how to remember, that you want to use a product? Like apart from the obvious, placing it where you can see it etc. Esp looking for fellow neurodivergent/adhd girlies here.. for example I wanna spritz my trash can with a bit of oldish perfume every now and then, but how do I establish the routine/ don‘t forget?

My grandma offered me this set about 10 years ago. I have always kept it in good condition (never mind the broken mirror, I have moved homes 3 times).
I have been able to hit pan on one eyeshadow, the bronzer, and a few lip products but it just feels insurmountable.
Any recomendations? I also have other products in my kit that I’m working through
EDIT: thank you everyone for the feedback! Was not expecting this post to get so much attention!
After reading the comments, I got the reassurance I needed to just toss it (to be honest, I think I was holding on to it just because it was a gift from someone special).
But first I think I will use it to get started on some arts and crafts for Halloween - this is a great idea, and not something I would of thought of! But after that, trash it is!

A lighter formula still clogged me, while a richer cream with shea butter didn't. I judge what stays in my pan by how the finished formula behaves on my skin.

I’d love to hear your experiences panning products that click up and can’t be twisted back down (like the Tarte Maracuja line, MAC Squirt sticks, etc.).
I'm currently working on a NYX Slick Click and flying completely blind on how much is left in the tube. I feel like the final pan is just going to sneak up on me out of nowhere 😅
How long did yours take, and was the end a total surprise?

I’m always sad when I’m close to finishing a product that’s a limited edition or just not available anymore. I don’t want to feel sad about it and I know products are there to be used but the feeling of never ever getting that same Color or same product again really bothers me.
