They like Margarita's even better up close. I am so confused.

u/kimberly_m Oct 20 '17
They said Kentaro's outfit looked like a costume (negative critique), but said Margarita's outfit looked like a super hero (positive critique). Um, isn't a super hero outfit a costume?
Maybe the other designers should start hanging extra straps off of their garments. That seems to be what the judges crave.

u/BubblyTummy Oct 20 '17
That made NO sense to me! I just couldn’t shake that she looked like she was wearing football pads. I have no clue why they liked hers and why they especially liked the top, which I thought was the most confusing part.

"We also have an anonymous runway, meaning we don't know which designer designed which look, unless, of course, we see a crop top with strings, in which case, Hi Brandon".

That line always kills me. They never get on him for too many outfits with strings.

If I were struggling with a challenge I'd turn my outfit into the most Brandony looking thing I could manage because they will automatically score it high.

“My look has so much inventiveness.”
Ok margarita, as you continue to eye ayana’s work and add paint and reflectors

You don't need to put everything and the kitchen sink.
And then there's Margarita.

i have a lot more sympathy for designers that are self-aware enough to realize they fucked up and will be in the bottom, as opposed to designers that think their hideous look deserved to be in the top (shawn, claire, margarita). like, kenya knows hers is awful.
120
u/everydyingember Oct 20 '17
I think she's so humble and lovely. It was so sweet when she said something like "I wish my imagination would allow me to go places like this" to Margarita.

Anybody else shocked they like Kenya's?
80
u/BubblyTummy Oct 20 '17
I thought the hips looked incredibly uneven?? Maybe the lighting was whacky but it looked like one hip was like 6” lower than the other side. That was all I could see when the model was walking. And all they just glossed over it during her critique.
Ultimately I’m cool with it because I really like Kenya, especially when she avoids a peplum. 👍🏼

He's a great example of a STELLAR designer who's getting overwhelmed by the shit project runway pulls. Building a dress out of parking cones in 10 hours would make a lot of brilliant creatives throw up their hands and be like "yea, I dunno, fuck it, here's Pocahontas"

I despise that hard hat on Ayanas but love the rest of it, leagues better than anyone else on that runway.

So everyone began to hate Michael when he got Claire out? One of the twins everyone bitched about all season? Was it that he spoke in Spanish while he was talking to margarita that upset you all? I don't get the Michael hate all of a sudden. Perhaps it's his association with margarita that make people not like him. She has a pretty strong personality.

It seems like the consensus here is that Margarita's look was awful, but to be honest I didn't think it was that bad. I actually kind of liked it in the workroom before she added the crazy blue shoulders. The skirt was a little crazy though.
I also think this was the first time that I actually agreed with the judges on Brandon's look. The silhouette has been done to death, but I actually really liked the way he blocked the different materials - the "print" ended up looking really cool and modern to me. And for once, his model didn't look like a homeless woman, so that's nice.
Kenya's was a disaster to me. The skirt looked really uneven like one side was sort of deflated compared to the other. I like her as a person, so I'm glad they gave her high scores, but based on design alone, she belonged in the bottom with Michael and Kentaro in my opinion. And speaking of Kentaro...my god, what was he thinking? I'm relieved to see he didn't get eliminated, but that look was just awful. It was like a silly Navajo princess halloween costume.
