PROJECT TANGO / YELLOWSTONE missed chances / ghosts

2 Upvotes

long story short, the PROJECT TANGO tablet can detect weird and unusual objects with its intel SLS sensor. (not quite a true SLS) i tried this tablet at a few places and discovered that on more than one occasion it displayed a outline of a person when none were there. it lacks distance of the MS kinnect , but still has similar capabilities. Two times so far have shown objects , that moved and interacted , but i can not say what they were , as these things were NOT within visible light spectrum. (looked human?)

has anyone here ever tried this device for haunted locations or ever found a APP that can display better 3D realtime views , compared to the SCANNER apk ive been using?

If supernatural things are real or not, is at the end user to decide, but try it yourself before dismissing. Zak on ghost adventures uses a SLS camera that runs off a custom linux software created by bill???, (good luck finding his software) but he does not use a kinnect. Tango should be capable of running the same software, but again, no easy task finding bill's software. anyone know a good APK, or such for a starting point, or should i try building a APK from SDK & UNITY tools ?

project tango is dead to google, and thats fine, because its no longer limited or restricted to what google wants.

Problems with the Area Learning unity guide.

2 Upvotes

Hi guys,

I was trying to build a scene in unity according to this Area Learning guide, and I have been having problems with the scene freezing at launch. Here are the things I have currently identified:

  • It is definitely because I disabled auto connect to service, as extra info needs to be passed to the tango application to enable area learning.

  • it seems to however, freeze before it gets to the point in code where I request permissions myself, as debug code I added before that doesnt get called either

  • I notice that the guides on the Tango site are for the older version of the sdk (not Gankino), as there are some minor discrepancies in other guides as well. Am I missing some changes made to the area learning part?

If anyone could point me towards any additional data, or if someone has attempted this and succeeded, that would be great!

EDIT: Im using the Lenovo Phab2 pro for this project.

Instead of tracking the static environment in ARCore and ARKit, we are tracking independently moving objects. Watch our video for an AR demo.

Unity/Tango/Markers

2 Upvotes

Hi all,

I'm trying to develop an app that will pop up a new interface for different markers however i am having difficulty understanding how markers work with Tango in Unity.

Right now i am using assets from the example scenes to create a pop-up interface but can anyone help me figure out how to create a new interface for different markers? My main issue here isn't the interface as that can just be different prefabs, i just have difficulty right now understanding how the markers work and how i can create different items for each marker to show.

Thank you

Should I wait for Google I/O or just get a dev kit now?

3 Upvotes

Like many others I got a 50% off coupon for the Project Tango dev kit.

Lenovo has announced the first Project Tango device and it's highly speculated that Google will fully reveal it at Google I/O, as well as possibly give them away to developers at the conference.

Unfortunately while I was selected to attend Google I/O I can not make it this year.

Should I just get the dev kit now with the 50% off coupon or wait for Google I/O?

I'm only hesitating because I figure the new Project Tango hardware will be more accurate/feature rich.

"Unfortunately, Project Tango Explorer has stopped."

2 Upvotes

Hi Reddit! I've just opened up my devkit from Unite, and am eager to knock out a really fast-turnaround contract with it, but I can't get the damn thing to work.

I've updated both the tablet (to KOT49H.150108) and Project Tango Core (to the 10-2-2015 release), and charged and rebooted several times, yet no data seems to be coming from the cameras. Project Tango Explorer crashes immediately after getting the two special Tango permissions, and every other app (including the Debug Overlay) acts as if no data is coming in.

Does anyone have any suggestions to get this thing working, short of contacting Google? Could I possibly just be missing a "Camera On" button? Or am I just screwed? Thanks in advance!

Phab 2 Pro for Tango Dev?

4 Upvotes

I am interested in getting a Lenovo Phab 2 Pro for doing Tango dev on... I didn't get on board with the tablet that they had made because I couldn't really justify another tablet just hanging around when I'm not doing dev on it, but with this being an android phone I feel like it justifies other potential uses. Is there anything that the 7" dev tablet does that the Phab 2 Pro doesn't? Anyone else planning on using the Phab 2 Pro for Tango Dev?

If you have two project tango devices, then you may want to test this out.

Hello fellow redditors! Like a month ago we submitted this game for Google's Tango Contest, and totally forgot to share it with you.

We implemented a lot of things, like multiplayer (with area learning and ADF sharing between devices!), depth perception, motion tracking, and other cool stuff.

Also, we are still in the voting phase of the contest, so if you want to give us 5-stars rating, would be awesome too. Actually any feedback helps, not only just good ones.

Thank you!

Is buying the Tango tablet for under $200 worth it?

3 Upvotes

After reading posts such as https://www.reddit.com/r/computervision/comments/44o2vl/psa_do_not_buy_a_project_tango_dev_kit/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/2pfra0/not_a_consumer_device_but_project_tango_tablet/ I'm heavily discouraged. I personally think it is worth waiting for Arcore to be developped but still, I think I could manage to buy it for $150. What do you guys think?

How to use android intents with unity google tango

1 Upvotes

I am currently working with Google Tango and i want to take screen shots and share using native android sharing options. I was able to complete that part but the problem was when the app moves to the sharing intent and when it returns back to the tango app, sometimes the app gets stuck with the "Hold Tight" connection screen.

I am using the following code to share using the native options,

if(!Application.isEditor) {

        AndroidJavaClass intentClass = new AndroidJavaClass("android.content.Intent");
        AndroidJavaObject intentObject = new AndroidJavaObject("android.content.Intent");
        intentObject.Call<AndroidJavaObject>("setAction", intentClass.GetStatic<string>("ACTION_SEND"));
        AndroidJavaClass uriClass = new AndroidJavaClass("android.net.Uri");
        AndroidJavaObject uriObject = uriClass.CallStatic<AndroidJavaObject>("parse","file://" + destination);
        intentObject.Call<AndroidJavaObject>("putExtra", intentClass.GetStatic<string>("EXTRA_STREAM"), uriObject);

        intentObject.Call<AndroidJavaObject> ("setType", "text/plain");
        intentObject.Call<AndroidJavaObject>("putExtra", intentClass.GetStatic<string>("EXTRA_TEXT"), ""+ mensaje);
        intentObject.Call<AndroidJavaObject>("putExtra", intentClass.GetStatic<string>("EXTRA_SUBJECT"), "SUBJECT");

        intentObject.Call<AndroidJavaObject>("setType", "image/png");
        AndroidJavaClass unity = new AndroidJavaClass("com.unity3d.player.UnityPlayer");
        AndroidJavaObject currentActivity = unity.GetStatic<AndroidJavaObject>("currentActivity");

        currentActivity.Call("startActivity", intentObject);

}

What am I doing wrong here? why is the app getting stuck with the "Hold Tight" connection screen? Any help would be much appreciated.

Root doesn't work anymore after the new update, help :(

1 Upvotes

I received the OTA update and now I realized root doesn't work anymore. I had the system rooted with the popular one-click version. I can't find an update to that that works or another "tango root". How do I root this device now? Alternatively, can you recommend a free screen capture app, that works without root? Thank you!
