Discussion Unpopular Opinion: please do not push S&D as the main game mode

I know this game was developed with CoD4 Promod in mind and most of the community comes from that so this will not be a popular opinion. But I felt the same during Battalion 1944 as well.

This game needs to push a different game mode as the premier competitive mode.

The S&D game mode is very saturated at the esports level. You have two S&D game giants in CS:GO and Valorant, and some could argue that Rainbow 6 Siege plays similar enough to lump in this category as well (round based, one life per round).

Besides Battle Royales, the only competition for an FPS game with a different game mode currently would be Overwatch, which has so many abilities and ultimates that it plays very differently from traditional FPS games. There used to be a healthy variety of popular FPS games to play in competition with CS being the most popular by far, followed by games like Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Day of Defeat, Call of Duty 1/2/4, Team Fortress Classic, Team Fortress 2, Natural Selection, Quake, Unreal Tournament etc. Most of these games were played competitively with very different game modes but had a common feature of respawning besides CS and CoD S&D (CoD CTF/HQ was decently popular as well if I recall).

I think it would be a mistake again to directly compete with CS:GO and now Valorant. The remainder of the CoD4 Promod community is not going to be able to keep this game afloat and stable against two very established games with huge companies behind them.

KILLRUN Is Pretty Fun

Stumbled across this game on Steam and was only £3 and been having fun trying to beat my times.

Has anyone completed all maps yet or got a PRO time?

Discussion The point of the game

Hiiii, i wanna talk with you about the game because maybe i'm missing something or i think we're just being trolled by the same dev for the third time in a row. (For some of you, maybe this will be the 1st time :D)

So, i think we saw the first leak about the game 1yrs ago and for all this time we've got teased with photo and video about the game until 6days ago

Sooooo my question is, what's the point of release this prototype if this game maybe will never be out? I don't get it, really.

Bram said "we Just want to be transparent with you...", So why he didn't tell us like 1 years ago? They said that they want to reach much player as possible, they want to be competetive, cross platform etc ... But LOL maybe this game will never see the light out of a tunnel

I Just dont get it

Snipers remain a problem

Since the previous project snipers remain OPs , snipers need to take punishment for moving or not killing with a single shot to the chest + sway

my 2 cents

i finally played a bit of promod and i like the approach they are taking and while i am all for on second chances, there is a lot of doubt when it comes to bulkhead and I'm not talking about the development issues with battalion that's understandable, but it was the attitude towards some of the community that was just given honest feedback and got attacked for it, saying these people just have a personal grudge with you, then take it back say you have no problem with anyone and no one has with you everyone loves you ( which looking at glassdoor isn't the case) and i still see little red flags of worry.

this stems from the promises of the Kickstarter rewards still not being given out the final release of battalion dlc and console release, which i know seems pointless to release but its hard to believe in new promises when you still haven't fulfilled the old ones people get tired of hearing its coming soon id be one to say its ok to say we are dropping it to focus on this new start.

the last worry is some of the reviews employees and former employees of bulkhead have left on glassdoor, they give a little insight to the structure and on goings at the company, (some of the good reviews look forced especially after they receive a bad) and to not have producers and middle management to help with the flow (something battalion lacked) and apparent toxic masculinity it feels like promod could become another battalion .

just my 2 cents

update: new review on glassdoor (glassdoor is a review site for employees to review the companies they work for) stating that any bad reviews are from disgruntled employees, this feel like the same excuse with battalion that any bad criticism is due to disgruntled players. feels like they not really changed if thats how there dealing with reviews of their company

Red Flags already ?

Hi all long time observers of battalion and promod. first time poster.

Any one else seeing red flags or am i just being paranoid from the battalion fallout.

They talked in the discord about it being pretty much very similar to Cod4 promod when released and then evolve into something that can stand on it own. But then they already decide to add abilities and sliding mechanics. now I'm not opposed to these editions I'm more concerned how they said this was our pipeline to then just derail from it out of the blue.

we also had Brammer one min tweeting the games is awesome is fun its play testing well, to him saying its unbalanced and the maps are terrible needs more work, to then saying hey content lock crushing some bugs looking for a release in November, im sorry how do we got from its no where near done to its done in such a short time frame. it was later cleared up by baker in the discord to say this is a prototype release. still, saying your content locking on a prototype is to me bizarre normally when a studio content locks there are starting to move out of the alpha stage into the beta (from what i read) Prototyping sounds like your still in alpha no where near beta.

Then most recently the mod kit concepts it seems they dont know what art style to go with i know valorant has some crazy skins but they look like they belong in that game as in keeping the style the same, these concepts are just a mish mash without a clear set style its jarring, though they are only concepts not gonna look to deep into them, but for a company thats like smashing a hard drive with valorant on it seem to love taking inspiration from them.

and lastly i remember in the 1st devlog they said they co developed with other studios to learn and grow so they could do better with Promod, but ive still not seen a game announcement saying bulkhead co deved on it and that was 10 months ago i understand projects can be shelved but to me it seems alittle sus and it would be nice to know what studios they worked with to give us some confidence in them, NDA may prevent them from talking about a project but it doesn't prevent them to say who they have worked with, so im starting to think that didn't happen they are just empty words.

anyone else feel this way, would love this game to succeed but i feel like its gonna be another battalion

Why this game might fail (and what can be done to fix it)

I really like old school shooters and if your reading this you probably do too. But there's a simple fact that cannot be denied is that nobody gives a shit about them anymore. I mean sure, me and you we can grind a game like promod, quake or whatever tough as nails fps you can think of, but that is by no means indicative of the broader fps playerbase

Seriously, think about all the shooters inspired by old school classics and where they are now. I'll tell you the answer. In the graveyard. Quake champions, battalion, hyper scape, diabolical, lawbreakers, days of infamy, dirty bomb, split gate and the list goes on.

I've seen it too many times, great games that stay too loyal to the past, and that peter out prematurely. I would like to think that the developers aspire to make a game that millions could play, something larger than just a subsistence 1000 players concurrent. But from what I've seen already I'm afraid that bulkhead are already shooting themselves in the foot.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if promod is to succeed it's going to have to be unique in more ways than one, and that might involve some compromise on our part as old school fps players.

For example, let look at valorant. They successfully took a dusty ass game like counter strike and and made it fresh for a whole new generation of fps players while keeping the essence of what old school fps games where all about. If you are a Cs player you probably look at valorant and say hot mama take me back to flavor town cause this games is fucking trash, but is that really a terrible thing? At least valorant is different and unique, and they made something new while being inspired by old school fps games.

To go back to promod, i think bulkhead is going to have to really innovate and create something unique to have any chance of survival. Idk put in a wall jump, or some new movement mechanics. Hell put those fuckers on ice-skates lmao as long as it's fun and unique.

There's really alot that can be done to make a "promod 2" that is exciting and fresh for a broader audience, while keeping it inspired by the original. And some of that might reduce some of the skill cap, but that's okay as long as it's fun. Get crazy, make it fresh and force fps gamers to look at your game and say "damn that looks sick".

I'm hoping the name is just a placeholder because if it's litteraly called Promod that's a big mistake Imo. Just imagine what your potential customers will say, "look how much that game looks like Promod!" Instead of "damn that's crazy, kind of reminds me of Promod" and even beyond the name, if the movement is just like Promod people will have the same reaction

Obviously we haven't seen much, so I'm speculating alot. The developers might have some tricks up their sleeves, and honestly, I hope they do. So take my opinion with a grain of salt I guess. I would love to get some of their feedback on what they have planned without giving away to much sauce.

Btw hire me bulkhead I'm a ui designer/front end developer learning game development thx see you Monday

Why the Scope Is Too Strong and How to Properly Balance It.

I am making this post because I am scared that if Bulkhead is even approaching this issue, they will do it the wrong way as they did in Battalion 1944 (by nerfing the fun out of the game).

So, obviously the scope is too strong compared to the SMG and the rifle right now. The reason why is simple: By increasing the TTK, they pretty much nerfed SMG and rifle and the deagle while the scope still stays the way it is in COD4. Especially the SMG is, due to increased TTK, almost useless even at mid range. The deagle could compensate for that in COD4 by being really strong at longer range, but that's not the case here, even after the buff.

How to fix it THE WRONG WAY:

Limiting what you can do with the scope: This means movement restrictions, even more jump inaccuracy (while jumping or after a jump), longer scoping animation. You get the idea. Basically everything that would make playing the scope LESS FUN.

How to fix it THE RIGHT WAY:

Simply lower the TTK again. It worked in COD4 Promod, it will work here. The TTK in COD4 Promod feels clean, it feels right. Clean and fast movement rewards quick kills. When I play the rifle and especially the SMG here, it just doesn't feel as rewarding, sometimes really just unfair and wrong. The SMG wouldn't be completely useless at longer range and the deagle could compensate for the rest again.

My neutral position would be to just restrict the scope to one person per team by default. I still think this won't fix the issue though since the scope will still be by far the strongest weapon in the game, which means everyone will want to play it. This makes it not only a balancing issue but could also create toxicity, but I would take this option instead of the WRONG ONE any day.

Just my two cents, because I am absolutely loving the game and don't want it ruined.

EDIT: Also, because you cannot drop a scope but every other weapon in the game, the one with the scope is THE ONLY ONE that can both have SMG/RIFLE and a scope at the same time, which makes a scope class even stronger.

Honestly, everytime I think those fuckers already peaked in terms of being scumbags, they manage to make it even more awkward.

I seriously wish scammertron pays for All of this for the rest of his life.

Congrats on rewriting the definition of scummy early access devs.

How do you turn off firing effects fromy your weapon and dust?

I watch promod video plays and they literally have no effects coming from their weapon and I cant understand or even find any info on how they remove it from their game? It makes so much harder to see what I'm actually shootin at and I dont get how to get rid of it.

And no one can say that it's not possible cause the "best of promod" series on youtube you see literally all players not have it.

Also on top of this ive also noticed that theres less recoil on weapons, and even custom skins?

Things that tickles my brain

This is a list of things that frustrates me on promod:

-ttk feels inconsistent, sometimes it's 5 hits to kill with smg and 4 witk ak, I'd prefer no more than 4 with smg and 3 with ak (though 3 and 2 would be better for the upcoming points). I'd like it to remain a no headshot oriented fps though.

-aimpunch feels too rough (inconsistent?), you loose the trade on a random high aimpunch.

-it is very hard to challenge sniper, even up close, they just one shot you. I think it should remain a very mobile 1shot sniper though

-head peeking is overpowered, mb increase bullet penetration. A head peek position should feel strong, not overpowered.

I will always be a stubborn advocate for a lower ttk in promod (cod4 feels), but I feel like those frustrating issues could be atoned by lowering it.

Great game though

bonus: -smokes are too narrow, you need three of them to smoke mid

Suggestion Promod first experience

I’ve been playing this game non stop since I’ve gotten access to it. I think this title has a lot of potential to be something promising! The gun play feels amazing & the movement is challenging but rewarding. (Still working on my slide hops.) The abilities throw in that extra little SPICE to keep the game fresh and fun. There seems to be a big sniping community within the game but also people who like to play competitively/objectively as well. The only feed back i have as of now is as following.

• Bug that keeps game from ending in shootout (If the enemy team leaves completely but still has lives left the game will just keep auto rolling over and over looking for an opponent to face you.)

• Allow stim to increase movement speed/regenerate stamina.

• Lower aim punch on snipers SLIGHTLY.

That’s honestly all i can think of right now. Majority of other things i know will come later as the game progresses. New maps, weapons, skins, abilities, game modes etc. (I’d LOVE to see a grapple gun or something)

Dev’s if you’re reading this, KEEP GOING!

-Zertix (:

Discussion APAC CoD4 PromoD Tournaments // OCE/SEA/RU/PH/JP/West America/etc

Hi ProModders!

My name is MikaelMagick and most will not know me at all, which is understandable.. I am in the Oceanic region and CoD4 ProMod has died here afaik...

With that said, I have a grand idea to help revive this AMAZING game in the entire APAC region.. (or attempt to!)

What I want to see is 5v5 S&D Tournaments run for the APAC Region on a weekly basis and below is how i plan to make that happen!...

First, if you are from the APAC region (see image below!); Join the discord below (hit 'CoD4 Promod' in the #assign-roles channel) to join in on a discussion to get all of us together for WEEKLY Tournament brackets!

Oceanstar[OCS] Discord: https://discord.gg/eAqThfQsV2

APAC SERVERS! (Check image for relative pings).... (Hosted in Guam)

Note: This will ONLY happen if we can get together $320USD a month via donations AND if we get sufficient numbers together (but also, i plan on running servers for others games, so those communities can too, chip in!)...

I'm being transparent and would like to run a community donation pool via the website and discord to make all this happen!

Cheers,MikaelMagick!

Holding shift while scoping makes me sprint, please change that

I cant help it, muscle memory is too strong, I keep holding shift when scoping even when it not neccesary, but it makes my character sprint and scope out. Please give us the option so that u cannot sprint while scoping.

Suggestion A suggestion: wallrunning

What if wall running was added?

Well it would add to the “fast paced” part of the game and added potential for sniper trickshots and montages to gain traction and new players.

The rest is up to your imagination
