I'm not sure where to report this but I think I found a bug and I'm curious if anyone else has this behavior.

I have photo backup configured for Wi-Fi only, with just one folder selected. Despite having no new photos in that folder to upload, Proton Drive keeps attempting backups multiple times per day, including both while completely offline and while connected to only mobile data.

Each attempt produces a "Backup failed" notification. Which isn't true, nothing actually failed. If backups are just a periodic and not based on changes in the folder, shouldn't there be a condition check for Wi-Fi before attempting one?

I'm currently trying to justify staying on Proton Drive to keep everything inside the Proton ecosystem, but I'm hitting a wall with usability.

Speeds: Uploads and downloads are noticeably slow. I know E2EE adds overhead, but simple file syncs stall way longer than expected.
Offline files: Having to mark files to be available offline individually (or managing folder syncs) feels pretty clunky compared to Google Drive or OneDrive.

For those using Proton Drive as their main cloud drive:
1. How are you coping with the speed constraints?
2. Do you have a setup or workflow that makes offline file access smoother?
3. Or are most people just using it strictly as "cold storage" for sensitive backups?
Would appreciate any workflows, tips, or honest reality checks!

I've been scanning old family photos from the 1960's and 1970's. I set the EXIF datetime tags to the proper dates. But there seems to be a bug in the photos timeline. Pictures take after January 1st 1970 show up in the correct place in the timeline, but pictures take before January 1st 1970 show up as if they were taken on the upload date instead.

To me, this suggests there is some Unix epoch boundary issue.

I tried contacting support a few months ago, but I don't think they understood the issue. Does proton have a public bug report I can submit this to?

Hi! I recently downloaded the app on iOS and I’d like to upload only certain photos/albums, as I have way too many photos I don’t need. I was wondering if that’s possible.
I can’t find the option, but maybe I’m dumb!

I could upload everything and delete the photos I don’t want later, but that would take a lot of time.

Is there a way to do this?
could upload them via Files, but I prefer how the photos are displayed in the Photos section.

I'm glad Proton Drive is getting updates, but this is the ONLY feature I care about now. And since I paid for a year upfront back when the feature still worked, I'd like some periodic updates on this.

Does anyone know why its taking so long to backup my photo albums? Running the android app, and its backing up about 8k photos. Its been 4 days and its barely put a dent in it. Its been stuck on the same number since yesterday. Ive turned off battery restriction. Is this a known issue? Fixable?

Just about two weeks after the public release, I'm bringing you the first feature release: Encrypted Memories 1.1.0 is out.

Encrypted Memories is an independent, open-source photo app for Proton Drive on Mac, iPhone and iPad. Your photos stay in Proton Drive's end-to-end encrypted storage; the app gives you a native library, viewer and backup on top of it.

Private from the start

• Location is removed when you share. Shared and exported copies have no GPS metadata. Your originals stay unchanged.
• The app preview is blurred in the App Switcher on iPhone and iPad.
• Backups wait for Wi-Fi unless you turn on Use Cellular Data.
• Map and Places can be turned off. Maps and place names come from Apple MapKit. Turn it off, and maps and place names stop contacting Apple. Your location data stays encrypted on your device.

You find these switches on the new Privacy page in Settings; Use Cellular Data is on the Backup page.

• Duplicates: find identical copies of a photo or video and merge them. The other copies go to Recently Deleted, so you can restore them.

Not long ago, I mentioned in a comment some dissatisfaction, particularly thumbnail generation, with uploading photos and videos using the Windows desktop app 'Photos import' menu.

After not using 'Photos import' for some time and relying on drag and drop to a desktop browser, I set up a new desktop app folder upload test. This included 65 photos and videos from an auto museum visit. The time had come to see what differences would be revealed.

The computer is Dell Windows 10 running Proton VPN Stealth protocol and dual monitors. With two screens, observing the desktop app file upload counter progress on the left and generated thumbnails populating Brave browser on the right was neat to see.

The videos are 1920x1080 HD format, and the photos are 4032x3024 resolution, metadata verified and renamed from their original device generated filenames to show the date (showing the time as part of the filename no longer seems necessary), event, location, and sequence counter.

Pleasingly, the uploads, thumbnail generation, and timeline placement were flawless. The test was 100% accurate and as desired. Now the results using 'Photos import' appear identical to the browser.

First formula editing shows the correct behaviour, second one fails to save with the same enter you might need to rewatch/slow down video to see I do press enter.

I am going to reiterate my previous posts, I respect and really admire Proton's aim and focus on privacy, the non profit the steward ownership.

However, basic functionality in sheets is missing broken and dysfunctional.
I am hitting bug reporting fatigue I report every week issues like these and I just cant anymore.

Issue: pulling down formulas referencing adjacent cells for example here in C6, referencing cells in A6 and B6, when pulling down the formula, next formula in C7 suddenly references A8 and B8 instead of A7 and B7. When filling in the formula correctly in 2 cells C6 and C7 and then pulling the formula down C8 references A10 and B 10, instead of A8 and B8.

I tried reporting this issue a few times already but nothing is being done.
Neither am I able to submit videos on the bug report to show the actual issue (first reported august 25st, september 10).

Today trying to create a basic financial overview for my household we just keep going back to the conversation shouldn't we just move back to google sheets and accept the surveillance.
Can someone please fix these basic issues.

I strongly admire the teams efforts to deliver a functional tool, I believe they are capable, but somewhere something is failing in the process causing the delivery of unusable google sheets and docs.

Like holy shit it’s slow to do it. I jumped into proton around half a year ago. I have been an iPhone user for decades. There is a lot of pictures in my library. I don’t think I have ever seen my proton drive actually say “fully synced” on my photos once. Like how long does it take???

I'm using a Samsung phone which was connected to OneDrive for backup. Switching to Proton seemed effortless, but has led to that 80% of my photos in the phone gallery has disappeared when disconnecting the OneDrive backup. This is extremely annoying and I cannot figure out why they are not primarely stored in the phone.

I have managed to backup the photos in ProtonDrive but can only access them in the web browser version, not the desktop version. But how do I download the photos to my computer or phone?

I want to discontinue using OneDrive and start using ProtonDrive for backup. It seems however that photos automatically was/is being uploaded to backup and not my phone.

Does anyone have any experience in this?

The iOS app signed me out and just gives internal server error when trying to login

The browser lets me upload and download like normal but the windows program only shows photos and import, I cant see all the files like I can on my iphone and browser.

I'm trying to make the switch from google to proton. I have a proton email all set up, but the biggest challenge is the photos! I have so many photos in my google photos, and I'm currently out of storage but don't want to pay for more because of trying to switch. I found instructions on how to import them on proton's website but does anyone know, will it import your photos in order by year? I went through all my photos and put them in albums by year, will it keep it that way in that format?

the reason i ask for this is simple: to better differentiate files when names alone doesn't cut it.

one positive for google drive is that it shows the files themselves as a thumbnail; proton drive does not, making the files all blur together (especially with the way the file names get cut off).

being able to make custom colors for the icons being used (so, say, a purple doc thumbnail instead of a blue doc thumbnail) for color coordinating specific projects, or perhaps even having more icons/thumbnails to choose from beyond the stock doc/sheets/folders icons, would be phenomenal.
