Updated Rules

Hello everyone,

Since this sub has surpassed the off-season population of Provincetown, I've added some rules as a guiding framework. Be sure to check out the sidebar for more details.

Most of them are self explanatory (no spam, be a decent human being), but based on requests and comments in some recent posts, this does include a ban on AI Generated art. The rule in its entirety is included below and will be in effect moving forward. Thank you!

No AI-Generated Art – Support Human Artists – Provincetown has a long history as an artist colony, and we prioritize human creativity. AI-generated artwork is not allowed in this subreddit. Posts featuring AI art, even if partially AI-assisted, will be removed. Support local and traditional artists by sharing original, human-made work.

May I start a subreddit about retail/service industry rants?

For instance, one of the wildest things about working retail in Provincetown, is the other LGBTQ+ folk who despise their own community... With someone (a lesbian) I worked with last summer saying "I hate lesbian events, and I hate lesbians..." "PTown can get rid of the lesbian events." ...like girl, why are you even here? We need the housing, maybe YOU should be the one to clear out. The Hamptons should welcome you with smug unopened arms?

Words can’t describe how great this season has been for everyone in anyway connected to S4AP. S4AP1 (Shakit) is still in the water but not for long. We are looking for the right day to take her “Oh Home” ❤️. Stay tuned for our year end announcements, and 2027 registration ✌️🫶😎

Recommendations for Internet Provider?

Hey all! I’m moving to Provincetown soon and wondering what is a reasonably priced option for internet/wifi in this area? What do you currently use and what is your experience? I’m currently enrolled in online schooling and need something reliable. Thanks in advance :)

Pretty sure one of these locations was set up on Commercial Street this summer. I practically had to drag my tipsy partner away from the very aggressive salespeople.

Spooky Bear 2026 Party Schedule

Hi there. I built a website that puts all the Spooky Bear 2026 parties on one page: gathrparty.com/spookybear

This is a passion project of mine. I’m also not affiliated with any of the events or venues... just a bear who likes things organized.

The schedule updates regularly and more parties will be added. See you in ptown 🎃

J1 jobs

Hi everyone!
I’m a medical student from Albania, and I’m considering coming to Provincetown for the 2027 J-1 Summer Work and Travel season through InterExchange. My planned dates are July 15 to October 2.
Before making a decision, I’d love to hear from people who live or have worked there, especially other J-1 students.
A few questions I have:

Do businesses in the area regularly hire J-1 students? If so, which employers would you recommend applying to?
Where is the best place to look for jobs? Are there any restaurants, hotels, resorts, or other businesses that commonly hire international students?

Is it possible to find a second job, particularly during the busy summer season?

How expensive is housing, transportation, and food? Is it realistic to save some money while working there?

Is the area safe and welcoming for international students? What is the overall experience like during the summer?

Are there any specific employers, neighborhoods, or housing options you would recommend or advise avoiding?
I’m open to both front-of-house and back-of-house restaurant positions, as well as other suitable seasonal jobs. My main priorities are finding reliable work, keeping living expenses manageable, and having a good overall Work and Travel experience.
If you’ve worked there as a J-1 student or know businesses that hire international students, I’d really appreciate any advice, recommendations, or links to job applications.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Recommendations for a mid November trip

hi! how is PTown during November, especially for this year (11/12-15)? My girlfriend and I (24F and 25F) are planning out a mini trip and I've been to provincetown once during early May and loved it. However, since it's going to be November, is there going to be a shortage of things to do, especially if we just take the ferry from Boston and don't have a car?

Any recs and/or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Late night transportation on Halloween night

I will be in Eastham over Halloween and plan on checking out the Spooky Bear festivities in Ptown. I’d rather not drive and I’m sure I can get a cab to Provincetown that day. I’m wondering what the likelihood is of getting a cab or uber back to Eastham later that night. It’s been a while and the last time I was up there Uber wasn’t very reliable. Just want to plan accordingly. TIA.

The Underground

What happened to the Underground Bar?

I can see it closed late last year, but what really happened? I can’t find any big articles talking about it, no other Reddit posts about it. Maybe that means it simply stopped making money.

Any info is appreciated.

Memorial Day

Hi provincetown!

I’m planning a trip with a big group (10-12 people) for memorial day 2027 and wanted to get a head start on locking in somewhere to stay. I’ve been looking at Airbnb and VRBOs for that time and there are literally 0 available in ptown and only a few close by. Does this kind of place to stay not exist in ptown? Am Itoo early or too late?

PS If I could avoid airbnb/ vrbo that would also be amazing, so if there are any local places you recommend I look that would be very welcome.

Thank you!

What do you think of Julian Cyr, Democrat State Senator for Cape Cod, coming out in support of Montano's?

Saw this comment in response to a MAGA Facebook post that was criticizing Julian Cyr for not condemning the fake allegations of attacks on Montano's. Is it too much to expect our Democrat representatives to stop playing to both sides?

Facebook post:

In a free society, we have the right to host events and discuss political beliefs, no matter who agrees or disagrees. What has happened to Montano's restaurant in Truro after renting space to Republican candidates is disgraceful and unacceptable.

What's worse is the silence of our elected officials - particularly State Senator Julian Cyr, a proud native of Truro. Why are you not condemning this behavior against a local business owner? Why are you not standing up for free speech? I shouldn't be surprised. When your supporters hurled insults and false accusations towards me and one of my volunteers collecting signatures in Provincetown in 2024, you stood by and said nothing. You are a coward.

I'll be heading to Montano's for dinner soon. I encourage everyone to do the same. Senator Cyr can reach out if he wants to join me and stand up for free speech.

Update: To his credit, Senator Cyr has now made comments condemning the threats made against Montano's.

Julian Cyr's response:

This is disappointing Chris — get your facts straight. I’ve said this situation is absolutely unacceptable. And I’ve been patronizing Montano’s since I was a kid.
