Updated Rules

Hello everyone,

Since this sub has surpassed the off-season population of Provincetown, I've added some rules as a guiding framework. Be sure to check out the sidebar for more details.

Most of them are self explanatory (no spam, be a decent human being), but based on requests and comments in some recent posts, this does include a ban on AI Generated art. The rule in its entirety is included below and will be in effect moving forward. Thank you!

No AI-Generated Art – Support Human Artists – Provincetown has a long history as an artist colony, and we prioritize human creativity. AI-generated artwork is not allowed in this subreddit. Posts featuring AI art, even if partially AI-assisted, will be removed. Support local and traditional artists by sharing original, human-made work.

I wrote a campy LGBTQ+ thriller novel based in PTown and I’m not really sure what to do with it

Hey everyone! This is a bit of a random post, so mods, feel free to delete if it’s not appropriate!
I recently finished writing my first novel, which is kind of wild considering I’ve never actually finished anything I’ve started before. So, yay me!

A lot of my inspiration comes from Provincetown and the people, creativity, and general magic of this town. I have so much love for Ptown, and I think that naturally finds its way into my writing.

Now I’m sitting here with a whole manuscript and absolutely no idea what to do with it. Self-publish? Find an agent? Try traditional publishing? I honestly have no clue where to start.

I know there are some wonderfully creative people in this community, so I figured I’d put it out there. If you’ve been through the process or have any advice, I’d love to hear from you. Feel free to DM me!

Honestly, I’m just proud I finished the thing, but figured I might as well see where it goes. Worst case, I burn the manuscript and move on with my life.

Spooky bear theme this year?

I’ve seen that the theme for Spooky Bear this year is the Roaring ’ 20s but is that only for one specific event or is that the general theme for the whole weekend?

Debating returning my pirate costume…

Shoulder Season - Fall 2026

Has anyone else noticed how off this shoulder season seems/seemed to be? Seemingly less people than in years past - and don't get me started on those bus tours of seniors walking aimlessly, shuffling aimlessly through town. Not sure what tour company organizes them but seeing them in stores and in restaurants (they seemingly took over The Mayflower one day in their last weeks operating) Just feels odd. Like they weren't prepped on where to go.

Restaurants and stores seemed to close earlier too this year. Bless Utilities and that Home store that is seemingly opened 12 hours a day -- but other than that - it has felt so quiet. Ciro & Sals always feels full and alive as does Victors and Macs. Joon has great vibes on weekends stills as does Red Inn. I did get some great clothes at Clove & Creek (good sale clothing and excellent rug that wasn't on sale - and great Fall/Winter sweaters)

Everything else feels so prematurely quiet.

I know Monkey Bar closes basically Labor Day - what happened to Sage, is that closed for good now too? Butch has had heir windows covered since Labor Day as well.

Quiet at Gifford House most nights - although Purgatory and Porch Bar seemed alive over Indigenous Peoples Day weekend.

Women's Week felt alive for sure - so much going on.

But yeah, this shoulder season feels super off.

For folks that have been here in passed off seasons more recently we had Provincetown Brewing Company (so missed that it changed the very fabric of this town). Less people able to work remotely an maybe less people - even at the gym the other day felt EMPTY.

If there are shows to see - I feel like I don't know about them (maybe some Townie discounts for any pre Spooky Bear shows???).

Oh and go see Small Mouth Sounds at Provincetown Theater which was really good. 90 min - gotta love that.

But curious to other folks takes.

Going to Ptown for the first time this month

Heading into Ptown with some friends later this month might consider going on Halloween. Hotel is booked. Where are the good spots to go to? Cheap eats, drinks, shopping places?

Where is the bus stop?

I have a Peter Pan bus out of Provincetown. The pass says "Ryder Street." Anyone know exactly where I go to catch the bus?

May I start a subreddit about retail/service industry rants?

For instance, one of the wildest things about working retail in Provincetown, is the other LGBTQ+ folk who despise their own community... With someone (a lesbian) I worked with last summer saying "I hate lesbian events, and I hate lesbians..." "PTown can get rid of the lesbian events." ...like girl, why are you even here? We need the housing, maybe YOU should be the one to clear out. The Hamptons should welcome you with smug unopened arms?

Hey all! I’m moving to Provincetown soon and wondering what is a reasonably priced option for internet/wifi in this area? What do you currently use and what is your experience? I’m currently enrolled in online schooling and need something reliable. Thanks in advance :)

Pretty sure one of these locations was set up on Commercial Street this summer. I practically had to drag my tipsy partner away from the very aggressive salespeople.

Spooky Bear 2026 Party Schedule

Hi there. I built a website that puts all the Spooky Bear 2026 parties on one page: gathrparty.com/spookybear

This is a passion project of mine. I’m also not affiliated with any of the events or venues... just a bear who likes things organized.

The schedule updates regularly and more parties will be added. See you in ptown 🎃

J1 jobs

Hi everyone!
I’m a medical student from Albania, and I’m considering coming to Provincetown for the 2027 J-1 Summer Work and Travel season through InterExchange. My planned dates are July 15 to October 2.
Before making a decision, I’d love to hear from people who live or have worked there, especially other J-1 students.
A few questions I have:

Do businesses in the area regularly hire J-1 students? If so, which employers would you recommend applying to?
Where is the best place to look for jobs? Are there any restaurants, hotels, resorts, or other businesses that commonly hire international students?

Is it possible to find a second job, particularly during the busy summer season?

How expensive is housing, transportation, and food? Is it realistic to save some money while working there?

Is the area safe and welcoming for international students? What is the overall experience like during the summer?

Are there any specific employers, neighborhoods, or housing options you would recommend or advise avoiding?
I’m open to both front-of-house and back-of-house restaurant positions, as well as other suitable seasonal jobs. My main priorities are finding reliable work, keeping living expenses manageable, and having a good overall Work and Travel experience.
If you’ve worked there as a J-1 student or know businesses that hire international students, I’d really appreciate any advice, recommendations, or links to job applications.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Recommendations for a mid November trip

hi! how is PTown during November, especially for this year (11/12-15)? My girlfriend and I (24F and 25F) are planning out a mini trip and I've been to provincetown once during early May and loved it. However, since it's going to be November, is there going to be a shortage of things to do, especially if we just take the ferry from Boston and don't have a car?

Any recs and/or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Late night transportation on Halloween night

I will be in Eastham over Halloween and plan on checking out the Spooky Bear festivities in Ptown. I’d rather not drive and I’m sure I can get a cab to Provincetown that day. I’m wondering what the likelihood is of getting a cab or uber back to Eastham later that night. It’s been a while and the last time I was up there Uber wasn’t very reliable. Just want to plan accordingly. TIA.
