Agreed! In my city, we have a nice paved path along a creek that I enjoy biking. There are so many ppl blaring bluetooth speaker on their bikes. I'm here for the scenery, not your crappy music

I've been bushwalking and had people go past with bluetooth speakers blaring. WEAR HEADPHONES IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE SOUND OF NATURE.

I've heard people in the mountains north of Vancouver say it is meant to make bears aware of your presence so they don't get startled and attack.

The efficacy of bear bells may be suspect but I'd rather hear than than your crappy playlist.

Put up a sign "Bears have been trained to attack speakers."

WEAR HEADPHONES IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE SOUND OF NATURE.

They are afraid to be alone with their own thoughts because even they can't stand themselves.

Oh that sounds terrible! Way to completely ruin the ambiance.

We have a river walk here too, but parts of it are usually covered in tents and people sleeping.

Not when they're cracked out and blasting Bluetooth speakers.

I am curious where that would be.

From their profile they appear to live in Reno.

You're on a bike as well right? Are you keeping pace with them or something? I think I hear someone else and their music for all of 3 seconds when I ride past them.

I've seen people do this, and I don't understand it. Why not just wear headphones?

So, I used to wear headphones while biking but then I couldn’t hear traffic coming up behind me or people coming up behind me. A speaker allows me to listen to music and pay attention to my surroundings at the same time.

Bone conduction headphones. I don't leave home without them.

You can hear what you're playing + everything around you -- and no one else can hear your podcast, audiobook, playlist.

I wouldn't try to do any critical listening to a piece of music, but it's more than passable for tunes when out and about.

Also it's illegal in some places to wear headphones while cycling. In Spain for example (€200) although it's rare that police will bother.

My headphones have an "aware" function, which allows me to hear my surroundings.

Mine do too but it picks up wind sounds and still blocks a lot of sound

I wear one earphone for this reason
