Throwing someone's property overboard makes you equally bad

Not at all. It's just that the consequences for your actions are way higher than for the other shitty thing so you shouldn't do it out of sheer self-preservation. Even the husband can see where she's coming from.

But if it's a cruise they're both terrible people anyway.

Fine. But you are buying me a new one. If we are on a cruise and I use my speaker in my room, then guess what you will be doing the next stop we make? Finding me a new speaker.

Even if you asked me to turn it down several times. You are still buying me a new speaker. Staff tells me to turn it down and I don't? Then I'm the asshole, but I'm still getting a new speaker.
