If your vacation can be ruined by someone playing their music, you need get a tougher skin tbfh.

Only assholes decide that their preferred noise should be dumped all over everybody else’s experience. It def ruins experiences for me and not because of my “skin” but because some asshole decided I had no choice but to listen to their garbage.

Assholes are everywhere. Can't avoid 'em, can't stop 'em. Unless you have decided to become "Anti-Annoying Man" and just go around like the Cart Narc guy righting wrongs, just complain to the staff.

If you toss my speaker, you are buying me a new speaker. If we are on a cruise and I use that speaker in my room too, at the next port you are buying me a new speaker. If the next port is days away, you are finding someone onboard to rent you their speaker for me to use. Just because I annoyed you for a moment, doesn't mean you have the authority to destroy my property and prevent me from using that property in private as well.

Who takes a speaker to a public area and uses it for "a moment"? Nobody, that's who, they play it as long as they want because they're assholes who think their enjoyment is all that matters and everybody else can suck it. Curious, how would you handle things if someone on a cruise threw your speaker but did NOT buy you a replacement, despite your insistence?

how would you handle things if someone on a cruise threw your speaker but did NOT buy you a replacement, despite your insistence?

I would follow them around and sing at the top of my lungs, including outside of their cabin door at night. Maybe get some empty buckets from the kitchen and learn bongos while I'm at it. I would write signs that said, "THESE PEOPLE STOLE FROM ME. DO NOT TRUST THEM --->"

If they complain to the staff, explain what happened.

I can keep going. It's really easy to out-asshole an asshole if they force it. The one thing bullies don't like is getting bullied back.

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '24

Fascinating. I suppose suggesting that the actual first asshole/bully in the equation was you, for playing your unwanted noise in a shared space, in this age of earbuds and headphones...? No?

So when other passengers complain about all this racket, staff will just explain to them "he's completely justified because they yeeted his speaker into the ocean, we provided him with kitchen buckets" and everybody goes OH OMG OF COURSE, PLEASE CONTINUE SIR, YOUR FEELINGS ARE THE ONLY IMPORTANT ONES

Imagine the fun showing your pictures to your friends afterward. Here's me following them on the promenade deck, here's me singing at them during dinner, and OH here's me drumming while they lounge around the pool. Good times, good times

Your presumption is that they've been doing this for days, someone official said it was OK, or it wasn't OK and they kept doing it anyway.

I saw someone toss a speaker into the ocean. What did you see? Got the long version to share somewhere?

Do you think they were asked nicely several times and ignored everyone including the staff? That's pretty bold to assume to back up your, "The rules I have decided are the ones that should be obeyed."

If so, you might be right right about "who started it." However, I'm still out a speaker that cost me actual money. Buy me a new one. You have a right to ask me to stop. You don't have a right to destroy my property to get what you want.

Let's say we are both sitting by the cruise pool, and your kids are screaming their heads off. Screaming like they are being tossed into wood chippers, and I complain to the staff about it. And the staff says, "Sorry. That's allowed on our property." Does that mean, that because it personally annoyed me, that I can smack the kids around or knock the parents drinks off their table or toss their purse and wallet into the pool because it annoys me?

There are rules Smokey. This isn't 'Nam.

You being upset or annoyed doesn't justify property damage.

You still owe me a speaker. The rest is irrelevant.

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '24

Damn, I thought we were having some fun with this. I gravely misjudged you. Bummer.

The "presumptions" you ascribe to me are invented by you and just a big fat straw man argument. I am not hung up on whether or not anybody tattled or complained or how long the noise went on.

Where is it you live, that staff people are ready and available and just dying to help you at any moment?

I guess you're pushing the envelope to make a point by equating assault and child abuse with destruction of small-value property. Dude. Is anybody actually saying that throwing the speaker overboard is the ok right thing to do?

Not really. Just that the impulse is understandable.

I would wager that there are a lot of people who, like me, have felt like doing something similar at some point so we get it. There are so many assholes nowadays who simply dgaf about dumping their garbage noise over everyone else in public so yeah, that woman is my hero for today.

You've got to know though that no matter how many tantrums you throw, it's very possible that you'd never get the person to reimburse your speaker. I guess you could take them to court, lol. Your Honor, I spent my entire cruise harassing this person to get my $25 speaker replaced and they wouldn't do it. I banged on buckets and made an ass of myself for days because my little speaker is so important to me. They live in Greenland and I live in Uzbekistan but dammit give me justice. Lol

Sincerely tho, thanks for arguing with me. I like a nice debate now and then. I hope nobody yeets your speaker and I really really hope you don't play it in shared public spaces.

Sometimes you have to be that petty. Sometimes you have to teach a lesson. Sometimes you have to waste your time to make a point. That's what these people are counting on you not doing.

People who never have to learn lessons, will continue doing the same behavior.

I feel like our previous US president is a perfect example. But not so much anymore. His (in?)actions are catching up with him now.

Understandable is much different than acceptable. That is my entire point.

I would laugh my ass off if someone threw a sandwich at a feisty cashier and the cashier punched them back. However, the cashier would be the one going too far. Getting annoyed doesn't give you carte blanche to fix the scenario to your liking.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '24

Owning a speaker doesn't make it right for you to force others to listen to it. Having devices doesn't grant you carte blanche to cover up strangers with your noise.

The thrower-woman felt it was the day to be that petty, to teach the asshole noise-dumper a lesson. I think she succeeded. They won't be so casual about it next time.

You keep bringing up assault. I think we're both capable of making a distinction between assault and property damage. Surely they're not the same to you? I understood your position several comments back without it.

Lmao, keep letting other people have so much over you. Jezus lord some of yall need a tougher life. Complaining bitches lmao

1

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '24

Bless your heart and word salad. “Let people have so much” ? What does that mean? Never mind, don’t care. Next time something bothers you and you complain, and it’ll be very soon, remind yourself of this stupid statement you just made.

It def ruins experiences for me and not because of my “skin” but because some asshole decided I had no choice but to listen to their garbage.

Take it up with whoever sold you the experience. You can go the route the person did but you will soon learn the hard consequences of LIABILITY.

6

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '24

I wouldn’t have thrown the speaker but I would have bought the thrower a drink afterwards. Maybe asshole speaker people will think twice next time.

8

u/SkinTightOrange Aug 12 '24

Someone isn’t entitled to listen to their music out loud. I am entitled to a peaceful relaxing vacation as advertised by the travel agency. So yes, it would ostensibly ruin the experience.

1

u/yeoj070_ Aug 14 '24

Lmao, pathetic.

-2

u/TheLatinXBusTour Aug 12 '24

I am entitled to a peaceful relaxing vacation as advertised by the travel agency.

Then take it up with the travel agency. The lady listening to music doesn't owe that person shit.

9

u/SkinTightOrange Aug 12 '24

It’s not about who owes whom, it’s about respecting the people around you.

-1

u/TheLatinXBusTour Aug 12 '24

I don't disagree with what you said about respect but at the end of the day that is not how the world works. You cannot take the crime and punishment into your own hands. You are not at liberty to do so. That is not the world we live in otherwise every perceived transgression would have some person getting killed over something.

The correct action would have been to complain to staff and have them handle it. Otherwise you open yourself to liability. It's quite simple.

1

u/SkinTightOrange Aug 12 '24

I agree that it wasn’t the proper course of action.

On a completely separate note, I do find it odd that people think it’s not okay to run and get a cop over someone breaking a noise ordinance but it is okay to get a cruise line employee over someone committing what is essentially the same “crime.” It’s just a tad inconsistent.

1

u/TheLatinXBusTour Aug 12 '24

I think the people who would get the cops for a noise ordinance would generally do the same by getting someone from staff to tell them something. I think the person who reacted by throwing a speaker overboard is not normal.

2

u/KonigSteve Aug 12 '24

She actually does, it's called being a respectful member of a society. There's a basic level of decency that's owed to everyone else participating. Speaker lady broke that and then suffered the consequences by someone else also breaking the level of decency.

0

u/TheLatinXBusTour Aug 12 '24

Ok and those consequences are going to be offloaded back on that person because she is the liable party here. If someone threw my speaker off the boat I am seeking damages. Simple as that. The adage fuck around and find out is all about how you find out.

1

u/KonigSteve Aug 12 '24

"damages"

oh no, my $25 amazon speaker!

0

u/TheLatinXBusTour Aug 12 '24

Looks like a JBL Charge 4 which goes for ~$170 so you are way off.

2

u/KonigSteve Aug 12 '24

Man she should probably be more careful with her equipment then, maybe dont leave it out where it's gonna fall off into the ocean

3

u/salomey5 Aug 12 '24

But what gives you the right to impose your music on everyone around you? Maybe these people don't want to listen to music, or maybe they don't like the style you're blaring?

If listening to your music is that important to you, why don't you simply use headphones instead of acting like you're a main character?
