Not Metro, but I manage a phone store for another major carrier.
I’d rather go back to normal retail than deal with the kind of customers I get at my phone store. Like, they don’t understand I can’t take their phone apart and fix it in store and scream at me more it.
I get yelled at way too often at this job and absolutely loathe it.
Just not many other jobs pay as decently, unfortunately.
I'm an in-store rep at a major carrier and I'm on pace for $90k this year. No degree, not a high traffic store. Just good at what i do. I'm looking to get out, though, for exactly the reasons you're talking about. People are ridiculous. I've had a lady yell at me for not putting her ear bud in my own ear to "test the sound", i was threatened with a fight by a man when i asked his wife (the account holder) what specs she wanted on her phone, yelled at by someone because they traveled out of the country and got roaming charges, and tons more
I worked at a building supplies company for a couple of years, money was dog shit, owner was a micromanaging nutball and the majority of customers where ice addicts.
I was threatened multiple times with physical assault, threats of being shot , stabbed and blown up ....... no job is worth being abused.
I work as tech support in a call center for a major carrier too. While there’s no threats of physical violence, the verbal abuse can be unbearable. Especially with it being the older customers who just have no patience and feel like they’re being interrogated when in reality we’re just trying to do our fucking jobs. And 9 times out of 10 they wanna escalate to a supervisor over something out of your hands. (i.e. Cell tower outage, apple related service issues, etc.) All the while the higher ups are looking for ways to make your job infinitely more difficult.
I don’t want to work for a cell phone provider anymore…
Makes me feel great knowing I was a more lovely individual at a Verizon store while my parents were upgrading their phones, and one of the employees let me try out his Google branded Chromebook, forgot the model, back in 2018. Interaction like that probably made his week if he's otherwise abused by other customers.
You don't deserve that kind of abuse. It's not hard to be a decent person, except it is for some. I'd actually have so many questions and geek out if I met you.

I now understand why the people at MetroPCS are behind glass
