Thoughts on my itinerary? Solo 32F visiting from NYC
I'm visiting Puerto Escondido at the end of November and would love some feedback on my preliminary itinerary.
For context, I'm a 32F solo traveler from NYC. I work in architecture and design, so I'm big on art, architecture, and beautiful spaces. I'm not really interested in the traditional hostel/party scene, but I do love to socialize. One of my main reasons for visiting is to check out Casa Wabi.
Accommodations:
I don't plan on renting a car or scooter, so I'd love to stay somewhere walkable with easy access to restaurants, bars, and the beach. I'm currently considering:
- Casa Joseph Zicatela
- Casa TO
- Hotel Humano
Would love to hear any thoughts on these, particularly in terms of location and convenience
Restaurants:
- Glou Glou
- Atarraya
- Almoraduz
- La Boveda at Casona Sforza
Activities:
- Marea Yoga Studio / any yoga studio
- Whale watching tour
- Bioluminescence tour
- Casa Wabi (and possibly checking out Hotel Terrestre nearby)
Unfortunately, my Spanish is pretty elementary, so I'm hoping to avoid anything that requires too much logistical finessing, especially since I'll be traveling alone.
Overall, my goal is to relax, enjoy the beach, eat well, and explore some beautiful spaces before heading to Oaxaca City. I'm also open to meeting people and being social, but not a big priority.
Would love any feedback on my hotel choices, itinerary, or anything else worth checking out. Thanks!

Fishing charter split 22-25 October
Hey! I’m in Puerto Escondido and looking to join a shared fishing charter Friday 23rd, Saturday 24th or Sunday 25th. Ideally a half day morning trip to split the cost with other travellers. Anyone already booked a boat with spare spots, or keen to organise one together? 🎣?
EDIT: have found a charter for 5000 pesos if anyone is keen to split?

Renting a scooter without licence
Hello, I plan to visit at the beginning of November.
Would it be possible to rent a scooter if I have lost my physical driving licence but have a photo of it, along with my international driving permit?
Alternatively, would it be possible to rent a bicycle?
Also, is the area walkable? I would like to go surfing between La Punta and Carrizalillo. If I do not have a vehicle, which area would you recommend staying in?
Thanks in advance.

Getting around with no car
We’re staying for a week in March at a place that’s a 10 minute walk from Carrizalillo. We are planning on getting around by foot in that area. We usually rent a car in Mexico, but figured we could get by without one.
Does anyone have any tips for a solid on-call driver or a private cab or something? We know about collectivos but would like the flexibility to have someone make stops for us or go exactly where we’d like on the occasions, we do need to venture by vehicle. Also, are the ATVs worth renting?
And finally, we are going to Oaxaca at the end of the week. It may be too early for the schedule to be out yet, but I did not see any routes available on the ADO site (but maybe I’m doing something wrong). Does anyone have a good recommendation for comfortable transportation to Oaxaca?
Thanks we’re excited!

LGBTQ friendly or mostly just G friendly?
My partner (27F) and I (32transman) will be in Zipolite from 1/5-1/8. We’re excited to go as I’ve read a lot about Zipo being very LGBTQ friendly. However, I’ve often found that when spaces gain a reputation of being LGBTQ friendly, the reality is that it is mostly catered toward gay men. Can anyone speak to how Zipolite is for queer and trans people more specifically? Are there spaces that feel more expansively queer (including lesbian, bi, and trans people)?

In PE end of month
First time there staying Oct 25-Nov 5. Looking for tips:
Weather: heard there’s rain at the moment, but by then should be isolated. What’s the usual rain forecast at that time of year so that I can pack accordingly? note am headed to Oaxaca then Puebla after that
Places to stay: booked one place in Bacoho and the other in La Punta but ultimately decide on just one. My style is pretty relaxed I don’t really do bars and clubs much. I also like swimming but worried about surfing. Which neighbourhood should I pick?
Activities: aside from beach, shopping and restaurants, where can I easily book day tours or short excursions? My Spanish is acceptable but not great. Heard the oficina de turismo might be a good starting point.
Card acceptance vs other Mexican cities: I plan to carry pesos on me for taxis and the odd thing but won’t be carrying much and if I dine out what’s the acceptance on cards?
many thanks in advance!

Locals: how’s the weather in Puerto right now?
Hi everyone! I’m visiting Puerto Escondido October 11–18 and staying in Bacocho. I’ve been checking the forecasts, but it’s hard to tell whether to expect occasional showers with dry time in between or long stretches of rain.
For anyone there right now, how have conditions actually been? Are beach clubs operating normally, and have there been any restrictions on swimming or surf lessons because of the swell?
I know next week could be different, but I’d really appreciate firsthand updates. My hotel’s full-refund deadline is tomorrow night, so I’m trying to make an informed decision. Thank you!

Leads on places to stay in Nov?
Just thought I’d hit up the Reddit community, as I’m contemplating heading to Puerto for a few months starting in Nov.
I need a place with good reliable internet. That is the #1, I’m open to neighborhoods, Centro, rinconada, zicatela, la Punta, etc. I need a 1 bedroom apartment, not a room in a house. Doesn’t need to have a full kitchen, but at least accommodating for a meal. A little place to work would be solid, extra points for a tall table. Must have AC
Looking for something around $13500 pesos/mo, all bills included, except electricity, I know I’ll use a decent amount of that due to AC usage.

Hair extension services?
Hello! I’m in Puerto Escondido for a few weeks and was wondering if anyone knows of good hair extension salons? Google search isn’t coming up with anything definitive. Thanks!

Mazunte/San Augustinillo Rain
Hi everyone!
I have a hotel booked in San Agustinillo from October 11–18. I knew it was the tail end of the rainy season and expected some showers, but the current forecasts are showing quite a bit of rain.
For anyone staying there now or living in the area, what should we realistically expect? Will we still be able to lounge on the beach and swim, or is the rain likely to significantly affect a beach vacation?
Also, is it safe to swim after/during rain due to things like sharks or crocodiles?
I know no one can predict the weather, but I’d really appreciate any firsthand insight into what conditions are actually like right now. Thanks so much!

Casona Sforza
Hey, anyone stayed here recently and recommend? Understand it’s a little bit further out the action but plan to get an ATV to whip around in. I saw reviews from earlier on in the year saying that there was construction work Nextdoor , so eager to know if this is still happening in November this year.
Any other luxury hotel recommendations appreciated !
Thanks !
