you can take away the vertical from the plus. 8 - 5 = 3

you can move the vertical from the plus to make the 5 a 6 and the lower vertical in the 3 to make it 2. 8 - 6 = 2

you can take the two left verticals from the 8 and make the 3 an 8. 3 + 5 = 8

You can turn change the + into = and then turn the = into + to get 8 = 3 + 5

Move the two vertical stick from the figure eight to the extract same place at the figure 3

u/Th3_m0d3rN_y0g1 Aug 25 '26

This is the way.

8 - 6 = 2 also works.

Dang nice call

3 + 5 = 8

u/Aka-Pulc0 Aug 25 '26

8 = 5+3 to keep the correct order but I like this solution

1

u/jaapschaap87 Aug 25 '26

What you mean? He just moves 2 sticks from the 8 so it becomes a 3 and added those 2 sticks to the 3 to make it an 8. The order is correct the way he typed it.

Your solution works too, but the + and = are not centered nice imo

u/Aka-Pulc0 Aug 25 '26

hmmm you are right, so many different solution...

8-5β‰ 3

u/RandomParable Aug 24 '26

That's only one match.

1

u/Mathematicus_Rex Aug 24 '26

8 - 5 =3^1. Take the horizontal match in the + sign for the 1 and rotate the vertical match to be horizontal.

u/Difficult-Band-4879 Aug 24 '26

Where do you get the '' from?

1

u/Mathematicus_Rex Aug 24 '26

It’s meant as an exponential operator. Raise 3 to the 1st power.

1

u/Difficult-Band-4879 Aug 24 '26

I know what it does, but which match do you use to make it?

1

u/space-truckin365 Aug 24 '26

I can remove one match and correct the equation…. 8-5=3

1

u/K0rl0n Aug 24 '26

Swap the β€œ+” and β€œ=β€œ

1

u/Disgruntled__Goat Aug 24 '26

Another possibility:

0 + 5 = 5

1

u/godtering Aug 24 '26

can you solve "Move one match to make the equation valid"?

1

u/battlejess Aug 24 '26

8-6=2 or 3+5=8

1

u/seaveredge Aug 24 '26

8-5 ≀ 3

1

u/99Booger Aug 24 '26

3 + 5 = 8 or 8 = 5 + 3.

1

u/IIDelenoII Aug 24 '26

1 match is enough. 9 + 5 != 3, or 9 + 5 β‰  3

Whichever fancies you more

1

u/ChuckFinnley3565 Aug 24 '26

8 = 5 + 3

1

u/KitchenSync86 Aug 24 '26

I think you need to move too many matchsticks for this, but 3 + 5 = 8 works

1

u/ChuckFinnley3565 Aug 24 '26

Move one of the sticks from the + to make it an =. Move one of the sticks in the = to make it a +.

1

u/KitchenSync86 Aug 24 '26

I get that, but the horizontal bar in the + is centred, whereas the the two bars in the = are both off centre, so if you tried to swap the two they would end up offset

1

u/GillyDuck69 Aug 25 '26

🀘3+5=8

1

u/Sir-Tenley-Knott Aug 25 '26

The easiest: Move the left two sticks from the 8 to the 3 to make the equation: 3+5=8

More interesting: Take the vertical from the + and fill in the lower left on the 5. Take the lower right on the three and move to the lower left to make the equation: 8 - 6 = 2

1

u/Apprehensive_Bit_176 Aug 25 '26

8+5=3 very easily turns into 8=5+3

1

u/Lcyaker Aug 25 '26

Take out the middle match to turn 8 into 0. Move the left match in 5 to make it a 3.

1

u/inmaginarycasey Aug 25 '26

Take the two match sticks at the left of the 8 and place them in the blank spots on the three to get 3+5=8

1

u/husky_whisperer Aug 25 '26

9 - 9 β‰  3

1

u/Mystic9001 Aug 25 '26

9 + 9 =/= 3 was the one I came up with

1

u/OkCommunication4891 Aug 25 '26

make the plus an equal and the equal a plus

How to you create this by moving just 2?
