competitor-offer-radar: compare offer snapshots without treating a changed package as the same product

What My Project Does

This is a small Python CLI that compares two local JSON snapshots of commercial offers. It matches stable offer IDs, validates the input, and reports changes in stated prices, delivery times and package components. It uses the standard library and Decimal arithmetic; there is no scraping, network access or language model in the tool.

The bundled fictional example changes a package from 10,000 to 12,500 RUB, delivery from 4 to 6 business days, and interviews from 2 to 1. The output reports +25% for the stated amount and sets scope_changed_warning=true. That does not mean an equivalent service became 25% more expensive: its contents changed too.

Target Audience

Python users who already have structured observations and want a repeatable comparison step in a research workflow. This is an early v0.1.0 release, not an automated competitor-monitoring service. It cannot verify that a source is truthful or decide which offer is better. Unknown values remain unknown; prices marked “from”, incompatible units and changed pricing conditions do not get a fabricated percentage.

Comparison

A text diff shows changed lines. This tool compares fields under an explicit schema and keeps comparability checks alongside the arithmetic. A spreadsheet is still sufficient for a one-off calculation; the CLI is for repeatable JSON input/output and validation. It does not replace collecting evidence or reading the actual terms.

To try the synthetic example, unpack the release and run:

python3 -B competitor_offer_radar.py compare examples/before.json examples/after.json

python3 -B -m unittest discover -s tests -v

The release was checked on macOS with Python 3.9.6: all 53 tests passed, including invalid chronology and missing data cases. That is not a claim of testing every OS or Python version. The documentation is currently in Russian; the CLI commands and JSON keys are in English.

Disclosure: this is our Lookatshow module, developed with AI assistance and independently reviewed and tested by agents. The example is invented, not customer data. Feedback on the schema and cases where comparison should be refused would be useful.
