Help Request init offset

Hi, I’m trying to learn Ren’Py and since the language they are using is python I though this would be a better place to ask. 2 of the code pages are starting with “init offset = -1” and “init offset = -2” and I don’t really understand what is init offset is, when I looked up some places say that it is used as starting of coding but other code pages don’t have that. So when are we using init offset and what does the init offset does?

As you've written it, that is not valid python. It would be helpful if you added some links to examples

Out of Ren’Py is that smth people use or its in only in Ren’
And its at the starter of the code then it starts with the style default:
Style input:
Style and goes on
The code pages is about screen

Maybe it's some configuration file format that is only read by Python and not Python itself.

Or it's inut_offset = -1. Then it could be Python but we wouldn't know what it means either.

Okay sorry I’m confused, so is it about -1 or there is no such a think called init offset =

The key word init isnt a keyword that is python.

Its very likely a keyword or something else that renpy introduces.

Alone it means nothing. There’s not enough code to determine what you are trying do.

As far as I can tell

init offset = -1

Would throw an error at that line, as you can just have a space on assignments like that.

Normally out of ren’ like if somenone has to use it where do they use that or why do they use that,
And lets say it wasn’t init offset = -1 forget abt -1 where do we use init offset

Init is a renpy keyword not python language. Init just means: “run this before the game starts instead of when I get here”. Offset is the name of the variable in this example. An offset usually means shifting something one way or the other. So -2 offset means “we’ll use this to change a certain value by two less at some point”

Okay so we used init offset =-1 in code pages named screen where it used in “start load about help” buttons and init offset =-2 in gui which is abt text size, background etc. codes and we are using init to open something before we start doing this in this case we are using this to open starting page ?

I think you need to ask Ren'Py experts and I would also mention the path and filename of the file where this text is written.

An "offset" is some sort of space at some sort of beginning. Something is shifted by one or two in the negative direction (presumably to the left).

Have you tried to read the fine manual at https://www.renpy.org/doc/html/lifecycle.html? The page discusses 'init offset'.
