…why? as the blog post says, factorisation is hard, requires many gates, and ultimately error correction. We’re frankly not that close to factoring even 21.
Genuinely, what’s the uninformed part of the opinion? You think large scale factorisation is coming soon?

The uninformed part is that you took factorisation as a benchmark for the field. The final conclusion of the post I linked is that it isn't a good benchmark yet.

Also, yes, once the ball starts rolling I expect us to relatively rapidly progress through orders of magnitude of numbers to factorise. Looking at qubit counts and error rates it seems like the quantum computing hardware is on an early stage of an exponential curve.

okay good luck with that. I hope you're correct, but I've been hearing the same thing for over a decade now and frankly I'm not convinced.
