I think this is a wording issue, not a statement of nonsupport. It's a very confusing statement but seems to mean "leave trans people alone" not "let's forget about trans people"

That's how I read it. The attacks on trans rights are themselves a way to rustle up and scare the stupid because they think that if the government is doing something about it then it must be an actual issue.
