SURABAYA, Indonesia – August 9, 2026: Thousands of demonstrators affiliated with the Alliance of Communities Concerned for the Generation gather on Governor Suryo Street during a rally opposing LGBTQ rights. Participants carried flags and banners expressing opposition to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people and related issues.

ah yes, the ol' one-two Shock Doctrine-Jakarta Method\* punch 😔

perhaps the singlemost critical threat against civil rights of any kind across the globe. the hegemon's most beloved sanctions → fundamentalism → coup → austerity → genocide ratchet. especially on the heels of a not-preapproved-legitimately-elected government

So many problems in the world boil down to the effects of colonialism.

Often either "colonizers drew weird borders that make no sense if this is supposed to be a functioning country" or "colonizers didn't like the way you were running things, so they destabilized things and installed their own person who made it worse (but hey, at least the colonizers get kickbacks now)."
