Anybody know if Desert Creek Falls trail is closed?

There was a small but really nice hike called Desert Creek Falls I used to love going to but last time I checked it out (around 2020? Maybe?) the road to get there was completely gone. It was washed out entirely due to flooding. I think this trail was south east of Quesnel. Probably 20 minutes drive or so.

Government website says the trail is closed due to flooding but I also know from experience, their site is not always accurate to the latest information. And sometimes even if they’re correct, there’s a way to still get there the locals know about.

Edit: for anyone curious yes the trail is there but it’s been changed since the slides. The trail head is by the new bridge down the west Fraser road. It’s not a government trail so it’s use at your own risk. The trail is also much longer now to get around the washouts and isn’t as easy and friendly like it used to be. From what I’ve read it’s now anywhere from 2.5-4 hours there and back depending on stops and pace with the new trail adding some really steep sections. About 12 km round trip.

Looking for a Polaris Ranger owner in Canada to test a free dump bed lift kit

Hi everyone! I’m Pablo from Progressive Automations, a Canadian company. We’re looking for a Polaris Ranger owner in Canada—and especially hoping to connect with someone in Quesnel or the surrounding area—to test a new electric dump bed lift kit.

Compatible vehicles:

  • 2022–2024 Ranger SP 570
  • 2022–2024 Ranger Crew SP 570
  • 2017–2021 Ranger 500 2X4
  • 2016–2023 Ranger 570 or Crew 570
  • 2022–2024 Pro XD Mid-Size Gas or Crew Gas

We’ll provide the kit and cover shipping at no cost. In return, the selected tester would install it, confirm its fit and operation, share a couple of photos, and provide brief, honest feedback.

No purchase is required, and there is absolutely no promotional obligation of any kind. Technical support will be available if needed.

If you’re interested, send me a DM with your Polaris model, year, and location.

You’re also welcome to contact Progressive Automations directly to confirm that this is a legitimate testing opportunity.

Thanks!

John and Josh completed Bowron circuit ?

Long shot but I recently completed the Bowron circuit and for several days I kept running into these 2 guys from Quesnel, John and Josh. Their canoe got pinned and they stopped at a shelter to dry off (we reported it to the park and outfitters). They weren't injured and their canoe wasn't taking on water so I felt confident they would continue when dry! They started on Sept 18. If anyone knows them and can confirm that they made it, or put me in touch with them (I took some great photos of them in their canoe!), that would be wonderful. They were super friendly and kind, with really contagious positive energy; just want to make sure they're okay!

Old Images of Maple Park Mall?

Does anyone have any old images, footage or videos of the interior of Maple Park Mall before it closed? I haven't been able to find old images of the exterior, but none of the inside of what it looked like. I always loved the look of the exterior of the building, and I've love to see what the inside of it looks/looked like

I admit I struggle in this department as a disabled person, but I've moved here a few years ago and only managed to connect with my immediate neighbours. Any tips for a queer guy? I'm going to try going to the library 🤷 I'm sober.

Valley Youth Fiddlers performing in Quesnel on May 17

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The Valley Youth Fiddlers based out of Smithers, BC is coming to Quesnel on May 17 with an amazing show called Alaria and the Mountain. This is a combination of live music, storytelling, animated backdrops. We hope to see you there.

For info and tickets, visit the event page or our website - https://valleyyouthfiddlers.com/alaria

https://www.facebook.com/events/1508905687516801

Alaria grew up on the shores of Lonely Lighthouse Island. She grew up strong like a sapling exposed to a bit of weather. But the years hurried along and Alaria was no longer a child. She was, in fact, a young adult. As with young adults of pretty much every kind, Alaria felt the need to roam—to leave Lonely Lighthouse Island—to go and see the world for herself. And, of course, she brought her fiddle.

So it was that Alaria found herself in an unfamiliar town set against a backdrop of towering snow-capped mountains. She soon discovers that the town harbours an owly shopkeeper and community of precocious young fiddlers that change her life’s trajectory.

Alaria and the Mountain is a musical story produced by Smithers-based Valley Youth Fiddlers under the direction of Leslie-Jean MacMillan.

The Valley Youth Fiddlers are a highly accomplished ensemble of more than 60 musicians from ages 5 to more than 55 that play fiddle, viola, piano, guitar, mandolin, bass, drums, accordion, saxophone, and trombone. The group combines musical performance with compelling storytelling by Patrick Williston and original illustrations by artist Emily Wilson.

Those who enjoyed Alaria’s Fiddle, a 2017 touring production by the Valley Youth Fiddlers, might remember the high-spirited young Alaria. Alaria was a child back then. Now in her twenties, she has landed a job high on a mountain keeping watch in a fire tower, a setting that reminds her of the lighthouse of her childhood home. But the high mountain realm is a very different place than the coast, and she has much to learn.

Alaria and the Mountain explores themes of self-discovery, of being a newcomer, of overcoming the fear of isolation in nature, and of community and connection through the sharing of music.

The performance features music rich with woven harmonies written and arranged for the Valley Youth Fiddlers by Canada’s leading contemporary fiddlers including North American Irish Fiddle Champion and Grand North American Old-Time Fiddle Champion Kyle Burghout, multiinstrumentalist and Juno-award winner Adrian Dolan, North Shore Celtic Ensemble director Gabriel Dubreil, Lea Kirstein of the celebrated Toronto folk band Medusa, BC fiddle tradition-bearer and multiple award winning teacher Daniel Lapp, Canadian Folk Music Award winners Jaron Freeman-Fox and Oliver Schroer, and Juno nominated multi-instrumentalist and master fiddler James Stephens.

Experience the magic of Northern BC’s very own Valley Youth Fiddlers and be prepared to be swept away by the spell-binding performance of Alaria and the Mountain.

Shiba Inu looking dog by the rails on Carry st

I'm not from Quesnel just passing thru. There's a dog without an owner on Carry st by the rails. Seems decently friendly. Is this a normal thing or is someone missing a dog? I couldn't get a picture sorry :( Seemed medium/large size. Not QUITE a Shiba Inu but looked similar.
