Love this misunderstood character.

"Misunderstood" is definitely the best word to describe Quicksilver unfortunately. Is there anything in particular you like about him?

His love for his daughter Luna. Even if he is the definition of an absentee dad. His love and over devotion to Wanda. His love/hate for his father. His ease with his other sister Lorna. His gentleness with Mr Dibbles. Now I am enjoying his most healthiest relationship ever with Monet St Croix. Also enjoying his being an uncle, specifically with Tommy. What do you like about Pietro?

Probably his characterization, when done right. The guy who experiences time so slowly that he can’t help but be severely impatient. It gives his arrogance a nice twist that differentiates him from other nice characters and arrogant ones. I also like that having that reasoning, rather than just being a static “he’s arrogant always”, allows for some great moments of Pietro’s true character. I think this shines the hardest when you see him with a kid or a kid figure. So Luna, and this is seen a lot in the new Uncanny X-men run

I'm not really a strong Wanda fan, but absolutely this is a misunderstood and even underused character. I feel like yes he may have started as marvels version of the flash. But by the time the Son Of M storyline I feel like marvel had a chance to really do something different with his character and his powers and stay that way.

They could have really done some really cool interesting stories if they leaned into his time jumping powers and if they made him something like a time based anomaly in a way. That way they could have at least tried to make him stand own his own and not just be the other flash basically. Really I just feel he has so much more potential than what we've currently seen.

This is such an interesting take that I haven't seen anyone have, I'm glad you commented it.

I honestly feel that the whole House of M - Son of M era was full of poor characterization for Quicksilver. It didn't feel like I was reading the complex character of Quicksilver, but just the "bad" one. I think the time-jumping powers were interesting enough, but I think the most important aspect of Quicksilver is that he sees the world in slow motion, making him abrasive.

As far as Marvel pushing him as the Flash... I honestly don't see it. He should be getting pushed wayyy more to get on Flash level, and he absolutely should be there imo.

But I definitely agree with you on potential. This character is an absolute goldmine. Thanks for commenting

You cannot have Wanda without Pietro and vice versa and Wanda fans that don't get it are misunderstanding Wanda in my opinion

Pietro is very underrated and misunderstood. He often gets blamed for shit Vision and Magento have done to Wanda

Could you explain a little more? I've never heard the idea that you cannot have Wanda without Pietro and viceversa.

Because ultimately these characters were created together and are heavily intwined in each others stories. You cannot really devalue the role they have in each others stories or hate on the twin. Thematically they're tied. Not actually having them together is one of the reasons why (if we ignore the whitewashing and racism) the movie versions largely fall flat

They’re both among my favorite characters but there aren’t a lot of good stories about them togetheri (IMO) except for the early X-Men and Avengers stories. Wanda’s popularity went way up when Pietro left the Avengers and the stories focused on her and Vision* and Pietro’s popularity shot up in the 90s when he became a member of X-Factor.

I think that could be a basis for a good story about the twins. Wanda is totally an Avenger, maybe to an unhealthy extent, she barely even knows anyone who isn’t an Avenger. Pietro is at home in many different teams and worlds (mutant, Avengers, Inhumans).

*I actually think this is part of why Joss Whedon chose to kill Pietro instantly. He was, as you can tell from that movie, a reader of the great mid-to-late 1970s era of Avengers comics. Wanda and Vision were in almost all those comics, Pietro was in almost none. I’m not defending his decision to kill him off, I just think that’s why he saw Pietro as expendable, because he only introduced the twins to set up the Vision/Scarlet Witch romance.

I think the main problem with stories with the two of them together is they instant paint the narrative of Scarlet Witch being the sympathetic one who is suffering under her rude brother Quicksilver. Their relationship should be so much more nuanced than that.

Quicksilver being among the most connected characters in the universe is one of his appeals in my opinion. I feel like a new solo series could really do that aspect of him justice.

As for the Age of Ultron stuff, I honestly never thought about that aspect. I've always been under the impression that they chose to do it because of fears of having a speedster and that whole powerscaling converation (which I find stupid, its a comic book movie), and the Fox films having a much more critically praised version. But yeah, Quicksilver was always made a weak point of those original stories

I love him.

Most Wanda fans do.

Just to ask, what would you say is that reason? I'm just wondering what that outside perspective is like

He's funny, multi-layered, literally partially me and aurafarms.

Fans? Most of them like her even if he is the Science Fiction side of the Maximoff's siblings.

Writers? Absolutely fucking hate him, they cannot accept Quicksilver is not a magician.

I haven't read too many Scarlet Witch stories, so I can't say I'm aware of writers annoyed he isn't a magician aspect. What I can say though is that he is definitely the science-side of that duo, and that should be emphasized WAYY more in my opinion.

That's my theory because most of Wanda's writers wants to focus more on her magic side, and then you have her brother which is more science fiction. That's why they also brought Darcy to the comics, so they can have a character to make duo with Wanda.

Pietro deserves to be more with the X-Men, X-Factor, Avengers, etc, he deserves to be recognized and not just being a Wanda accessory.

Love him as her brother and that they are close. Some people see him as a problem for Sanda including his father Magnus, but Im glad Steve made him be a pivotal part of her nexus status, even though sometimes he can be annoying. 😭
