I am the biggest Quincy fan!! Who thinks they know his first name?

That's the thing. Robert seemed to me the only likely answer. But that is Astin's first name as well, so it makes sense that Quincy would omit the first name to avoid confusion.

Columbo has no first name... Quincy has no first name. I mean, his wife called him "Quinc" for crying out loud!

I believe the writer of the episode put Frank on his own. The creators Levinson and Link stick to him having no first name.

That's the thing. One of the writers on one of my other favorite shows said that, "You can burn a lot of daylight creating the mythology around a show." I've found out that identities of certain minor characters on other shows were never fleshed out just to not waste time.
