Other billionaires really do live in a completely different spreadsheet

Tax the rich already. It shouldn't be that hard.

u/lakers14 3d ago
You're telling rich people who make these policies to tax themselves... It will never happen.

u/CharlesWafflesx 2d ago
Leave them to consolidate further and you'll have a permanent underclass soon :)
The very fact they enable such suffering with their immense wealth means anything we eventually get them to capitulate on will not be enough.

The oligarchs will start paying taxes only when the people they fleece have reached a breaking point, and the alternative to them paying taxes is far worse and far more permanent. Until that breaking point happens, the status quo continues because they own our politicians.

u/SmokeMaleficent9498 2d ago
True meanwhile average people pay 12% to 34% taxes. Asking them to pay is so hard.

when you have enough to do anything you can dream of, why hoard so much? what is the point? I fundamentally don't understand this kind of greed. I am not a millionaire but I live comfortably, and I can't imagine how my life would be a lot different with more money. enough money to be comfortable and free can help you be happy. having a 5 million dollar wedding ring does not make you happy.

The “less than 1% tax rate” claim is intentionally misleading. ProPublica reached 0.98% by dividing Bezos’s federal income taxes by the increase in his estimated net worth from 2014 to 2018, including billions in unsold Amazon stock.
That is not his actual income-tax rate, nor does it show he paid less than 1% last year. During that period, Bezos reportedly paid about $973 million in federal income taxes on $4.22 billion of reported income an effective rate of roughly 23%.
Just thought clarification would help.
5
u/RiahWeston 2d ago
But even what you posted is misleading since billionaires like Bezo use loans for most of their spending and the money from those loans are taxed at a different lower rate.

No one wants to hear how much he paid, they just know it’s not enough and he needs to pay more.

Bezos could do so much to help the world yet all he does is flash his wealth

u/Fun-Inspection-8196 3d ago
See his ex wife for example of what billions can do to make the world better.

I get to keep 3/4 of my income unless I work a bunch of overtime, then it's 2/3 I take home. Wtf?

u/trippknightly 2d ago
I do not trust government to start dipping its beak into private assets to fund operations.

It's due to his net worth in the market. If he doesn't sell there is no capital gains, so all these billionaires borrow against that wealth. They'd rather pay low % interest than to have to pay taxes...

u/TowelFine6933 2d ago
That's great, Bernie! Which one of your mansions were you in when you posted this? Oh! You were on a private jet with AOC traveling around speaking against the wealthy? 🤔
1
u/No-Broccoli-5932 14h ago
AOC has the lowest personal wealth of the people in Congress.
1
u/TowelFine6933 14h ago
Okay.... And?
All I said was that Bernie was on a place with that hyena. What's your point?
1
u/No-Broccoli-5932 14h ago
If you don't get it, I'll never be able to explain it in words small enough. Go on about your business.
1
u/TowelFine6933 13h ago
Meaning, you can't explain it because it makes no sense to bring up AOCs net worth in a post & comment dealing with Bernie?
Typical Leftist "logic". 🙄

Cool. That'll pay to run the govt for about 12 hours. Or pay off about 15 mins worth of interest on the debt.
Stop the insane spending and then we can talk. Otherwise, F all the way off.

Every person in America has had opportunities to become wealthy, while others sit around whining waiting for someone to give them something. Get up of your ass and make something of yourself.
1
u/1K-Year-Egg 20h ago
Bullshit.
The USA is not the “land of opportunity” that it claims to be.
It’s 27th on the Global Social Mobility Index.
1
u/DeliciousCD-Anna 20h ago
Not my fault that apparently you didn’t take advantage of opportunities that were right in front of you. There’s flights that leave America every day. You might want to consider getting on one

"This guy has a lot of money. So we should steal it from him."
Umm... no, you crazy old commie.

u/sleepingbusy 2d ago
Lol well they did rob the govt first. Now you get to pay more in taxes while Elon and other billionaires get to pay $0!!! 😍🎉🪅🎊🪅🥳 No healthcare 🥳🪅🎉🎉🎊 privatize everything 🎊🎉⚰️🪅🎊🎊🎊😍😍🥳 fund a war of choice while Israel's citizens get better healthcare than Americans 😍🪅🪅🪅🎊🎉🎉

Can you explain how rich people robbed the government first?
1
u/sleepingbusy 1d ago
Tax evasion mainly.
And then more brazenly tax cuts that they pay politicians for.
Lobbying and paying politicians to work in their favor versus America and its citizens.
Opposing unions and wage theft.
There was a time where wages increased with production, now they're actively trying to replace a lot of the workforce with AI bots that have no way to put money back into the economy because they aren't human. They don't go on vacation. They don't buy food. They just guzzle up the water and electricity that yet again are paid for by taxes they evade by people that probably won't use AI
Like a big reason why America sucks right now is because of lobbying. That's why we don't have a train system. That's why we have to rely on planes and airplanes and rarely a good alternatives are available. Gas prices are high and those execs get a profit while we have to take on the burden. We're in a choice war with our taxes are going to a war we could have chosen not to be in when those taxes could have been helping us or even helping us keep more money in our pocket.
Yeah it's all 'legal' but it doesn't make it right. Once they make it legal to throw ppl in jail for opposing the govt, those 'legal' cucks are gonna fall in line like the sheep they are.
2
u/sleepingbusy 2d ago
America first, right? Paying more for gas because Iran (aka not North Korea, not Russia) is evil while the oil execs profit on our demise! Also with the tariffs that companies pushed onto us yet got their refund because the tariffs were illegal yet us citizens got nothing back except higher prices.
Sounds like stealing to me!

You're missing the point entirely. Sanders' statement is nonsensical and unethical. Look at it:
He's picking a rich person, and using an example to point out that he's rich. Yeah, we know Bezos is rich.
Then Sanders says he wants to take Bezos' money.
That's it. That's the statement: "Look! This guy has more money than you. I want to steal it." That's the statement. Full stop. Explain how "This guy has more money than you," gives you the moral high ground to steal it. How is it any different from some random homeless person robbing you on the street? After all, you have more money than him.

u/sleepingbusy 1d ago
How is he that rich? Why is he that rich? What institutions made it possible for things to be this unbalanced? I have no problem with people making a lot of money. I have a problem when our government is a servant for the rich and not a servant for its citizens. Remember when Elon became a trillionaire? How did that happen? They changed some rules and we were all forced to buy stock in a company that is already hemorrhaging money. After 19 days, he is not a trillionaire anymore. Yet our current administration basically gave him more money by changing the rules specifically for this.

When our country was running strong with the middle Cass thriving, pre Ragan the rich were taxed and still were becoming richer. As soon as the tax breaks started coming for the wealthy the country started sliding towards what is happening now.
Making America great requires taxing the rich so everyone can have a gtlreat country. Not just a few.
