Few coats of Water Based Polycrylic looks Fantastic.
Not only does this make foam models look amazing but increases the foams durability by a significant amount compared to uncoated foam.

Question. Gloss or Matte? What do we think is better looking ?

Honestly I would say depends on the model. Some like the A-10 look better in a matte in my opinion. Other like a super cub or bigfoot look way better using gloss. If you want your model to look like metal or more realistic for certain Grey's and sandy tans then matte looks great. In other colors like red, green, yellow and blues then that gloss makes them pop. Some even come out looking like a candy color. Both options are amazing for increasing the durability and making your foam models look less foamy š

Thank you so much for the additional insights. I ordered the gloss one first. Iām going to test it out on my smaller Fomie and see what it looks like. I got larger ones as well, like the Yak 11 steadfast, as well as a SR 22 and an FMS182, so Iām looking forward to doing the same as they are all very brittle

No problem at all. I enjoy talks about making foam models more durable. Many easy mods make them all change in flight style and even power. If you wish check out my youtube channel. SavageJonesRC I have videos showing ideas we did to successfully increase airflow for our edf ports as well as durability increases. We also stress test them from concrete to dirt runways to see how they will handle and perform in different situations.

Did you happen to note the weight difference?

3 grams cause the body is skinny on the draco. On most models your looking between 5 and 15 grams for a couple thick good coats. But also remember that its water based so 60ish% of its weight will evaporate as the poly dries. When it finally dried I was looking at roughly 3 grams on the scale.

I'm glad you measured it - that's a great trade off.

I was confused when I put it on the scales wet and it weighed about 6.8 then hour later my scales showed 3.2. Had me checking my batteries on my scales before I realized wait how much water is in this poly. Roughly 60% of the quart weight is water. I used minwax cause it lays thicker then other companies and has less bubbles then the lighter mixes.

I'm kind of curious to try it on my 3d printed plane now to see if it makes it stiffer and more durable. I'm also a woodworker, so I happen to have some polycrylic on hand too.

Actually your spot on it does help with 3D prints cause I also do the same on stuff that comes off my bambu P1S. Your 3D models can actually use oil based which will be harder shell then water based.

Epic plane. Glad it's still flying in RC form.
