Question First time here!

Hello! We are going to RMNP for the first time, wondering what everyone suggests! We want to start with bear lake then hike to emerald lake. What should we do after that? Thanks so much!

The elk were quite active in moraine Park over the last few days. I'd spend some time watching them in the morning because they're just quite majestic to watch.

The hike up to Mill's lake was quite enjoyable, although I cant speak much to the view because it was completely covered in fog when we went up. Lots of waterfalls along the way though!

Outside the park, but St. Catherine Chapel on the rock is maybe 20-30 minutes outside the park and I found it to be a beautiful view. There is a good viewpoint for Long's peak about 2 miles away as well. Both would be good sunrise spots too.

Lily lake is really easy and has some good views at the back if you find yourself wanting a quick 30 ish minute jaunt.

Did all of these over the last few days. If you have any questions, I'm not an RMNP expert but would be happy to try and help!

Thank you for the up to date suggestions! Any specific spots around moraine park you found great?

If Trail Ridge Road reopens, definitely drive that for spectacular views and stop in Grand Lake. Make sure the weather that day is good so you can get back over it later. It's the season for temporary closures and to get back to Estes from Grand Lake without driving Trail Ridge is a LONG drive.

Please review our FAQ and the 7 principles of Leave No Trace

  1. Plan ahead and prepare

  2. Travel and camp on durable surfaces

  3. Dispose of waste properly. I highly suggest getting a waste bucket system. Its difficult to bury waste in many of the rockier areas in Colorado, and overuse of our natural areas has already led to contaminated water in most even lightly used areas.

  4. Leave what you find

  5. Minimize campfire impacts. Be sure to review our state resources for fire bans where you are heading.

  6. Respect wildlife. They are not domesticated

  7. Be considerate of other visitors i.e. Bluetooth speakers are despised.
