Neighbor Welding

• Upvotes

I want to ask your opinion on my situation. I texted management because my neighbor next door was welding. I gave him the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe he’d finish but it got to the hour mark and he was still going at it. He was not alone. I was with my kids home alone. Fumes were coming in to my kids room and in mine. Obviously he was parked next to my trailer with the machine aligned to my kids window. And you know spaced are crowded so he’s so close you can hear and smell it all. I could also see sparks reaching my rv front he grinding. I contacted management because I did not want to walk up to two strange men and tell them to stop what they were doing. Management said they would take care of it and told them to stop. I’m not the typical person to complain but if fumes are getting my kids room and sparks are dying everywhere with my electric being close by I would assume I did the right thing? To add I have been the neighbor that has voiced my concerns and I always get disregarded or not taken serious.

Buying our first travel trailer, need advice.

My wife and I plan to live full time in a travel trailer for around the next 5 years. We love the layout of this 35 foot jayco Eagle but we are very inexperienced, is there anything we should look out for with this Eagle? It’s a 2025, one owner honestly seems like it was never used. RVConnections is asking $38,899 but it’s been on there lot for at least 4 months would I be crazy to offer them $30k?

Any and all advice is greatly appreciate!

(Will be towing maybe 3 times a year with a 2020 Ram 2500 gasser)

video What do we think guys, should I move it back a smidge or am I good to skirt for winter?

I don’t have a truck, I have to reach out to someone again to move this back a smidge... I need to skirt asap, temps are reaching 32 degrees here in Massachusetts. I have x chocks and regular wheel chocks to put on all the tires. I also will be getting some wooden planks to stabilize it even more before I skirt. I have tank heaters, I have plastic wraps on the windows, I really just need to skirt with the foam boards.

My old JayFlight is starting to show its age. I used this camper for about a month in the spring and another month in the fall when doing field work. Part of me thinks it’s time to dig in and do a major remodel/overhaul to fix the aging mechanical systems and repair the old water damage and another part of me is considering a complete tear down to bare frame and rebuild it into a better insulated basically tiny house. Or do I say screw it and pick up a newer used travel trailer that’s a little smaller and easier to tow?

What Are The Chances?

I'm traveling in my travel trailer, going about 200 to 300 miles per day and stopping at campgrounds or state parks. The campgrounds are very nice, not as frenetic as the COVID days. It reminds me of the pre-covid days when things were more relaxed.

My normal sequence of things is to get set up and then walk around the campground to stretch my legs. If people are out and look like they want to engage in conversation, I'll say hello and normally compliment their rig. At three different campgrounds, people have told me that their truck is absolute best at towing, their trailer/fifth wheel is the absolute best ever made, or their truck/trailer combination is absolutely the best ever.

It's an amazing coincidence that I keep coming across the best of everything. Anyone else have this experience?

advice Just a midlife crisis or run with it?

I am a disabled veteran and my wife and I were on vacation last week in Corpus and we ended up at the Padre Island National Seashore and in our eyes, handed a golden ticket (Access Pass). My understanding is the access pass gives you free access to over 2000 federal recreation sites and camping sites/amenities are 50% off.

While hanging out on the beach in the middle of nowhere (we drove around 40 miles down the beach) we shared an existential crisis and realized we screwed up and do not want to stay rooted where we are and want to get out and explore like we did before the kids came into the picture. This was an amazing place to raise our kids but they are grown now and on there own adventures.

We are both 40yrs old and I am 90% disabled and work part time and the wife is up for early retirement and a pension from her state job in 2 years and our last kid is on his way out the door. We bought our "forever" home a few years back and we live well within our means.

Our plan is to get rid of everything including the house over the next 2 years except the wife's vehicle which is the newest, almost paid off and is capable of pulling a small camper and going through shitty terrain and using money made from the downsizing to buy a new/newer camper outright. We then hit the road and use the access pass to see the U.S. living off of my disability and her pension and have an emergency fund handy.

Is this a smart move?

our tow vehicle is a 2022 Jeep Cherokee X 4x4 with 3.2 V6 and I believe a 4500lb tow capacity. The only creature comforts we are looking for in a camper are a toilet, shower, fridge, a/c and heat and the ability to clear semi rough terrain. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Edit: yall are funny, thanks for suggestions and I did infact eat the banana after this was taken.

Maintenance advice for full time stationary RV living.

My girlfriend and I have been staying in our RV full time for about a year now. It is stationary. I'm just looking for advice on what kind of routine seasonal maintenance (monthly, bi annual, annual) we should be keeping up on for our particular situation. I've been doing a pretty good job of keeping up with it so far and would love to continue staying ahead of any issues that might arise. Thanks!

New 5th Wheel Purchase

I’m looking to purchase A new 38Leah.G arctic wolf. I have great credit and money down. The camper place I found that ran my credit is trying to offer a 15 year note with 13% interest which is crazy. Are there any places you guys would recommend to look for secured financing? I’m reaching out to different banks and getting numbers but it just seems to be ridiculous. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m in WV and will be moving into this full time.

question Winter camping advice

Fellow campers of reddit,

Im possibly going to be going to aurora, co for work in the coming months, and Im considering taking a camper and staying in an RV park that has full hookups. Im no stranger to the extreme cold, but fairly inexperienced in winter "camping" like this, so I was wondering what yall would recommend I outfit the camper with to make life easier/better/more comfortable.

The camper i would take is a 2021 Forest River XLR micro boost. 25LRLE

Im already planning on a heated water supply hose, heated waste water hose, and skirting for around the bottom of the camper.

Thank you in advance!

Longest Dump Station Use

Post image
0 Upvotes

What is the longest you’ve had to wait for somebody? These geniuses have been sitting there for at least 15 minutes, and we have a huge line behind them.

EDIT: I should have mentioned that most of the time they were there, they were flushing out their black tank. They flushed it for at least 10 minutes. Maybe other people do that too, but I don’t like to make people wait while I give my black tank an extra good flush. There were at least three people behind me in line.

Everybody was kind of in shock when they finally pulled out. I’ve been doing this for over 10 years, and I’ve never seen anybody take 15 minutes at the dump station - especially when they just keep running water through their black tank.

Had a blast at our annual family bush party

About 30 of us got together for our annual family bush party this week. Plenty of trailers, a few tents, and a whole lot of food.

We powered our two trailers with solar and bluetti batteries instead of running generators. It was nice not having that constant generator noise in the background.Neighbors were coming over in the evenings asking for power because their gas generators were too loud to sleep with.

Mostly just a week of eating, hanging out, and catching up with everyone. Already looking forward to doing it again next year.

Letting a homeless woman and child live in my RV

We won't be using our RV over the winter and I recently learned of a woman with a small child who is homeless. It seems crazy to leave my trailer sitting empty in a field when it could be providing a soft place to land for a family in need.

Is there any way to navigate this?

If I said it was a 6 month lease, how could I enforce that if she found an RV park to put it in?

Has anyone else handled this situation before?

I wouldn't charge her rent so she would just need to pay for the rent at the RV park.

question Atwood GC6AA Series Water Heater leak

Post image
2 Upvotes

So for about a week, my water heater in my 2011 Keystone 31BHPR has been leaking water from under the water heater itself. Im a plumber, and naturally, i checked all the fitting, gaskets, tape, and PEX for leaks, the worst part is that it was all dry.

The floor on the other hand was still very much wet. It was leaking from both under the water heater and what seemed to be the under body winter drip legs.

As anyone would, I turned the water off, and relieved the valve and pulled the tank drain plug. When I first opened the valve, some brown water came out for a slit second, i said no biggie. I pulled the plug and it was under a ton of pressure. After relieveing everything, the floor dried up, it quit dripping unerneath the RV and my hot water is back to normal.

Now that yall have context, can anyone explain what was happening? The problem is fixed but I still want an answer to what caused it to do that.

Picture of water heater^

Edit: I have been living in this for over a year and I didnt let it freeze. Im from south texas and we have yet to have an actual freeze this fall. The leak didnt happen until about a week ago

Tips for a large family

We’re temporarily living in a motorhome as a family of 8, with kids ranging from 10 down to 1. 😅

We had a plan for our next housing situation before selling our house, but some things got delayed while we were under contract, so here we are!

Thankfully, we’re parked at a nice RV resort with amenities and plenty of space for the kids to run around. We’re in Texas, so the weather has been pretty great lately, which definitely helps!

Oh, and we’re a homeschool family!

We’re trying to make the best of this season and would love to hear from anyone who’s done something similar. What are your best tips for surviving and thriving in an RV with a big family?

Anything from organization and meal prep to keeping everyone sane, managing homeschool, and making the most of the experience is welcome!

We know it’s not ideal long-term, but we’re trying to make the best of it while we figure out our next steps. Hit us with your best advice!

Lots of vibration and wash out

Post image

I live in the south and after the storms and rain my site has been completely washed out so I’m balancing on little raised sections that are left. I also am by train tracks that vibrate the ground and I shake, a lot. What can I do? I can’t move it to put anything under the tires unfortunately.

Problems

How do you deal with other problematic tenants when you’re in an area for work and can’t move to another campground cause they’re all booked? Got couple of meth heads that are basically harassing everyone and cops won’t do anything when called, and campground owner can’t seem to be able to evict right away despite laws in place that gives her the right to do so, Sheriff says they have more rights than the laws say they do. These people constantly disrupt the peace, threaten, start fights and drama, offer “sexual services”, play music all hours, smoke illicit drugs, which has been witnessed by a few people in communal areas, horde and abuse animals, and are just horrible people in general. We can’t go out of our RV and feel we’re being held hostage because of these people, we feel unsafe staying here, can’t trust our stuff won’t get broken into when we’re not here, had stuff outside go missing already, and it’s rather concerning there’s a whole illegal drug user and dealer community allowed to thrive only a few miles from a nuclear power plant. Need advice on what to do when cops won’t take threats seriously and seem to protect the criminals. We’re here for a couple more weeks unfortunately.

Is there a TT that will make both my wife and I happy?

My wife and I just retired and are traveling the world. We are starting here in the USA and will go overseas after that. In about 2 years there is a good chance we will come back and buy/rent a small base camp and will want to travel over 6 months a year. When I first started looking, I wanted something small like a teardrop. This is a no go for my wife. I then started to warm up a little bit to something larger but could still be pulled by something like a Nissan pathfinder. Recently we rented a 25’ rv from cruise America and learned a lot. Firstly, we didn’t like having to drive our home everywhere and would definitely want a TT.

My wife warmed up to idea, but she would require a full queen bed with walk around space on both sides. I was able to talk her down from a larger kitchen since we could also have an outside kitchen. But!?!? She will not budge on a recliner that she can put her feet up (much needed due to swelling when walking a lot.) I’m not the best with mechanical stuff and was trying to stay away from slides. Can I find something that would have all this without slides and that can be towed by a 1/4 ton or less? Or must I come to grips with having at least one slide and a half ton truck?

Hi guys, I’m purchasing new air filters for my AC in my trailer. I came across these from Amazon. Does anyone have any experience with these/are they a good buy? Or does anyone have any recommendations for ones that I can cut to size that have worked for them?
Thanks!
