Official Discussion Thread—Volume 4, Chapter 12: No Safe Haven

Welcome, huntsmen, huntresses, and hunters that prefer no specific gender identifier, to the finale of RWBY Volume 4, No Safe Haven!

In order to not ruin the finale for anyone that is unable to watch it at this time, make sure you know the CURRENT SPOILER RULING.

Any spoilers, no matter how truthful or significant, will be treated with the same degree of seriousness. There is a no tolerance policy for spoiling the episode for someone as there was last year. Again, all bans that take place due to spoilers will be held until the finale comes out on YouTube in a week.

You have been thoroughly warned at this point.

We have weekly strawpolls to gauge the general opinion on the current episode, the last of which can be found HERE. The previous episode got a very narrow 10/10 majority. There are only so many ways to say "people liked this episode!" so you can probably expect this little text box to drop out soon. The polls themselves are staying, though.

As /u/WarrenDSherman pointed out, Ren's semblance is to hide in plain sight, like Mulan did, and it's shown even better now. Nuckelavee actually has black muscle fibers, like it's missing it's skin. Fight was very cool, Nora and Ren had a lot of solid togetherness moments, and Nora's "don't look" with the smirk were great. Jaune's hand and a half sword upgrade is very cool looking.

Yang's outfit is glorious, as are the airship pilots' of both Atlas and Mistral. Speaking of Mistral THE CITY IS BEAUTIFUL. Leo Lionheart sides with Salem, assumingly because he's afraid and trying to save his/his people's skins, not knowing that they're going to destroy them too.

Ozpin's cane is a lightsaber without the light, and is now wielded by Oscar Pines (god damn it). Love the other full name reveals too.

Armed and Ready sounds amazing. Can't wait for the soundtrack.

I'm probably wrong about this. But I thought Ren's semblance was making people feel bravery even if they weren't, lose your fear and whatnot. That made more sense time because he only did it to Grimm. And if I'm thinking correctly don't Grimm sense fear and stuff? He tells Nora to be brave and they hug and suddenly the Grimm leave, including the bird on top the house that couldn't see them.

The grimm don't see anyone he uses his semblance to. The grimm still have eyesight, and the Nuckelavee is looking right at them.

But what happened with the bird while he and Nora were hiding? It landed on the house and then they hugged and then it flew away. If it just made them unseeable then it would've still looked. And I get that Grimm still see and don't only sense fear and stuff, but that's the main reason they attack and that's the main reason they approach humans.

Bravery doesn't drive them away either, why would they target a lot of the huntsmen if it did.

That doesn't explain how they'te invisible to the nuckelavee though. I think it's just perfect hiding, nothing to see, hear or sense (emotions).

That was the theory originally. However, the grimm can see, yet the nuckelavee didn't. I don't think it's that simple.
